Spootz
Hey guys. I have these lmgts but I'm not sure if they are genuine or not. Is anyone able to tell me or point me in the direction on what to look for? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/460175-nismo-lmgts/ Share on other sites
Wordsmith
They look just like mine (not that I know if mine are real or fake). The only thing I can think of is the engraved writing, and I'm sure if somebody wanted to make a fake that wouldn't be too difficult to copy. GTR_JOEY
Best bet is to weigh them Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/460175-nismo-lmgts/#findComment-7614137 Share on other sites
GTR_JOEY
Mine are 18x9.5+12 Think they are around the 8kg mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/460175-nismo-lmgts/#findComment-7614140 Share on other sites
GTR-N1
Doesn't Edward Lees sell LMGT stickers to stick on the inside of the barrel and then recommends to spray coal tar on them for that genuine look? Btw, are there not any residue/genuine stickers still there on the barrels? Maybe they've been sandblasted and repainted huh? Spootz
Are the rotas heaps heavier though? I would say they probably weigh around 8kgs if I had to guess.Mine don't have the "made in japan" stamped on the side of them like yours do, or the "forged monoblock" part. Is that a give away does anyone know?I'm asking because they have been for a bounce over a curb and need to be fixed, but no point in fixing them if they are just rotas. lidz
yes originals should have the embossed "made in japan" & "forged monoblock" (bronze ones above are geniune), yours do look like rotas Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/460175-nismo-lmgts/#findComment-7614274 Share on other sites
GTR_JOEY
Obviously depends on the size of the wheel, in comparison Rotas will be a kilo or 2 heavier if not more They don't have the same magnesium content Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/460175-nismo-lmgts/#findComment-7614287 Share on other sites

Leroy Peterson
yep, rotas. its the angle of the spokes at the barrel that give it away rota: almost 90' on the inside. LMGT is a lot smoother 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/460175-nismo-lmgts/#findComment-7614321 Share on other sites

Spootz
Thanks guys,So yeah it looks like they might be rota's from everything you've said. Considering I got them given to me, it doesn't really matter too much. They have a crack in them each and I actually like the look of them. Do you think they'll be worth fixing? I had a look and new rotas are about 1k new anyway.Like Dyl33 said, I'm sure many people "hate" them (and don't get me wrong I can see why especially if you do have genuines). But i'd rather pay 1k than 4k for something someone has to look closely at to tell the difference at this point. GTR_JOEY
Type "rota wheel explosion" into Google images That's why I didn't buy them Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/460175-nismo-lmgts/#findComment-7614341 Share on other sites
niZmO_Man
Like Dyl33 said, I'm sure many people "hate" them (and don't get me wrong I can see why especially if you do have genuines). But i'd rather pay 1k than 4k for something someone has to look closely at to tell the difference at this point. They're probably be fine for putting around on smooth roads, but when you start smashing through potholes/ripple strips, metallurgy comes into play a lot more than design. Spootz
Well I'm not gonna be driving it in the city so country roads aren't smooth. But I'm not gonna be taking it on race day. The guy I was taking them to has "assured no rim leaves without being 100% roadworthy" so I would think they would be OK for general driving. What you guy reckon? Spootz
Another picture I had floating around. You can't even tell they are stickers on the nismo part, how do they do that just paint it?
