A Favourite Toy of Mine!

The Japs certainly got it right ( In my opinion) when they built the R34 or for that matter any of the Skyline GTR's.

Our R34 is now almost 7 years old, out of production yet every day I take it out it still turns heads and gets a lot of attention and comment.

I'm 61.Bloody hell if only I was 21 with one of these things! On the other hand the car would probably be impounded by the cops!

The car at one stage had full Nismo decals and stripes a bit over the top for me. Prefer the clean finish of a black metallic skin. Particularly with the Ray alloys fitted.

The car rides very firm but smooth and tight. Tanabe progressive rated springs make the difference. At full throttle the HKS exhaust (dump pipes, high flow catalytic converter etc), gives a powerful deep sound with very little cabin resonance. The car with it's current stage 2 Powerplay ROM ecu tune and throttle body upgrade burbles beautifully when at idle. No roughness at all.TRUST T517Z 8cm Turboes replace the R34 stock turboes.Checkout the enhancements listed in the other photo. The board was prepared for the 2004 Auto Salon show at Homebush just after the car was done up.

The ROM tune makes the car very responsive particularly when useable boost starts to take affect at around the 3500 rpm mark. The R34 dash console display shows a smooth and steep graph curve on the boost display screen.Particularly when the pedal is pushed to the floor. Proving that the Apexi boost controller is doing it's job and has been properly callibrated. Dyno showed just on 300kws at all wheels on 1.1bar.I'm not clear as to how much power reaches the front wheels as I understand the ATTESTA Pro system only transfers such power when slippage occurs at the rear wheels. Boost is now set at maximum 1.2bar on current ROM tune settings.Higher settings are not recommended. Under "occasional"and reasonably heavy acceleration the car will momentarily slip a bit of rubber until the 'ATTESTA' transfers torque to the front wheels. No hint of ever getting unstuck.Wet or dry. As a lot of us all know taking off in the wet in a GTR is phenomenal. Most other cars just flounder.

Currently riding on Pirelli P Zero Nero 265/35ZR tyres. No complaints they stick pretty well wet or dry and are also wearing well. Bit bloody expensive though.

The only small hassle I have is with the clutch which has been fitted with an additional hydraulic booster.Takes a bit of getting use to.Perfect with second through to sixth gear as it is very light and quick. The lightness in 1st coupled to a twin plate clutch means that engagement is sometimes a bit hard to judge, particularly with quick take offs.Nevertheless makes driving around town and in heavy traffic very easy.

All GTR's seem to wrap around you when driven clean and hard.In comparison with our previously owned GTR R33 VSpec the R34's shorten wheel base, overall reduced length of the vehicle

and increased structual rigidity gives this feeling twofold.
