  1. Sorry guys, but there is already a class for this type of vehicle...it's called Sport RWD. That class is due for revision, and some changes will be made....but passing a roadside rego/ roadworthy inspect just to qualify to race?.....I don't think so Drag racing is about getting cars off the street and in a safe enviroment.....99.999999% of the cars on our tracks are not deemed roadworthy by the stiff collared suits at the RTA.....but that dosen't stop us allowing them to run......and nor will it. The track is your refuge from the hard nose officers of the blue brigade, and you show your enjoyment by doing burnouts, purging your NOS, and spooling up that moooohhhassive T06 turbo......not acceptable on the street...but at home on the track. Oh and the term 'DOT' is an American term that refers to the Department of Transport - which is only relevant in the States....not here! We are working on the correct terminology, that will be used in the soon to be released rule book. Needless to say Australia complies with laws set down by the RTA - Road Transport Authority. If your 'street tyres' don't meet the Australian design standards then they are not deemed legal for use on our roads. Cops are wising up to this and are defecting cars across the nation for it. It's a red tape thing I know, but it's reality. So if there is not Aust. compliance on your tyres then don't expect to race on them at an ANDRA Sport Compact street tyre class. I will be policing this at the Jamboree as the dangers involved are huge....and a dead racer, resulting from dodgy tyres is just plain bull shyte......Check your tyres, and be prepared. But I do like where this discussion is headed....please email me the results so we can identify what your specific racing needs are. Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  2. I write a monthly article for drags.com, and this month I have written one about the passion within our sport. After getting back from the weekend and reading what you guys have written....I see passion. And I must respond! The deal with this new class was started from an email from an Ausrotary.com member...it was an idea....but it has since grown. I approached the Jambo promoter Ray Box with the idea, and the wheels started moving. It all culminated with 3 Ausrotary.com members scheduling a meeting with me in Sydney to discuss and put forward their proposal. They were organised, disciplined and good communicators. After a few months we had our rules, and a press release was issued. Then you guys came along!!! I posted the idea on your forum, to get you involved with this new and exciting class. What I got back was a pretty big slap in the chops! Then I went away and thought about it. This was no insult (although it was pretty damn close 2rismo!) it was passion in it's rawest form....it was racers who wanted to be apart of the show.....I had to act. So going on the bench mark set by the Ausrotary.com guys....who were organised and disciplined........I guess I should expect the same from you guys too! If you want to be involved then do some reasearch within the forum, or better still ask the Ausrotary.com guys what they did to get this class off the ground! I must say if 2rismo had the time to check out their site and copy that list......why didn't he ask them how they got the whole thing started? I have been a passanger in this whole thing......a passanger responding to my racers needs.....what's yours? because I know what the Ausrotary.com guys need. As for my email.......damn broadband junk is up shyte creek again and I should be back on line in a few hours....so please send you correspondance to me personally. Skylines etc are what you guys use to express your selfs with.....and my job is to accomodate that...like I have with the rotary guys.....You have a very passionate member in the shape of 2rismo....why not get him to be your point man on all of this?...collate the data, organise the rules and document the whole lot down and present a tangible class that may be trialled at an event to gauge your style of racing....what about it 2rismo, you have thrown a few stones in the last few weeks....time to step up and take a bigger role! Thanks for the passion....it keeps me inspired. Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  3. 'Major discussion' was in reference to the VL commodore inclusion into the Sport Compact arena! I made no reference to slick size being under major discussion. I am trying to get the ball rolling with the whole 'untubbed' car thing here in Australia, I'm sorry if you feel I have left you and your cars out.....but as this is a TRIAL CLASS (mentioned five times so far!!!!!!) I have no doubt we will be making changes at a later date. I am offering you an alternative option to race when you attend Jambo, if you decide to take this opportunity then that up to you. I undertsand that everyone is free to give their opinions, however I would have expected a little more support from this forum for what was on the table, please remember 8 months ago the whole import/ sport compact scene was a jumbled mess of unorganised, poorly run events that wern't taken seriously by any of the mainstream drag racing community. With out the correct guidance and input.....we could end up back there. thank you for your input Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  4. Like I said it is a starting point, there is a major discussion going at the moment as to the elegibility of the VL's....so I will leave that one alone at this point of time. I understand the 10 inch slick dilema...but again it's a starting point. I hope you can all understand what we are trying to achieve with this trial class, and as far as having input.....I don't take suggestions from forum websites.....you will need to email/ or snail mail me at ANDRA for a potential suggestion to be registered. Anyway all that shyte aside.....what's the story with this rumoured 700hp RWD GTS? Who has it where is it from? Oh and I hear through the grape vine that some NZ cars are coming for Jambo!!! GTR, Gazelle and a Pro RWD car is what I have been told! cheers for the input Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  5. Ok your opinions are justified.......1650pounds errrr TYPO TYPO that should have read 2650pounds!!!! So lets address a few issues; Why do you all think Rotaries are the bee's knee's in drag racing? I thought the Pro RWD classes in the US was dominated by MEGA-HP 6 Cylinder weapons of mass destruction? rev210 states he thinks that rotor's are hard to beat? I know they can be fast and powerful, but their drag racing reliability has always been questionable! I know heaps of rotor teams that would love to switch to piston power....just for reliabilities sake. DON"T BE SCARED OF THEM......BEAT THEM! The Yanks do! This class is a TRIAL CLASS!!!!! All the parameters are being trialled!!! I have had not one email from any member of Skylinesaustralia.com.au regarding Sport Compact drag racing!!! If you really give a toss about this sort of motorsport why have you not emailed me? I know it's not my job to chase you!! I want Skylines/ Supra's etc in this class and the rules that have been formulated have been done so to attract a majority of players not a boutique few like the rotor boys. As for tyre sizes.....that 28 x 9 is a MAXIMUM SIZE...you can run a smaller version if you like. This class is a hybrid between the Sport Mod class and the Sport RWD class. It is for racers who have cars that are not ideally suited for the street and are more strip orientated......stripped out GTST.....I'm sure someone has thought about it....haven't they? I hate treading on people's toes, but the reality is that there has been a 'hole' in the Sport Compact racing scene. This class is aimed at fixing that problem, and I appologise if you feel left out. I am trying to cater for everyone, and I need your support. If you have an opinion that is constructive, then let me know. Don't sit on the fence and tell me what I'm doing wrong.......jump in and help the sport grow into a viable product we can all enjoy. After all I own an old Mk 1 Cortina Lotus replica.....without the knowledge of this forum...where else do I go for info and input on Skylines? Thanks for listening to me ramble Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  6. Sorry but I thought RWD6 was a Drag Combat class......nothing to do with ANDRA Sport Compact racing! As far as weights go....the 6 cylinder weight is nearly 1000pounds lighter than Sport RWD (ANDRA Sport Compact class!) and Theo Woollet ran 9.98 at 146 MPH in that class. I would have thought the Skyline boys would have been jumping for joy at the OZ Mod weight breaks! I guess if you have enough horsepower, and a light enough car then you would be competitive. Lets see 1650 pound R33 GTS-T, trick gearbox with a set of 28x9 slicks, and a 400 hp RB25 oh and as the weight is for a car with two.....YES THAT"S RIGHT TWO...count em!!! Power adders - you can have NOS as well. I think that car would be very competitive.......I guess someone will have to take it to the Rotary boys and show them how's it's done. Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director

  8. 4WD vehicles are not required to run tail shaft loops - this is standard practice at all ANDRA tracks. The name is directly from the NHRA, and I am in the process of either renaming the class or potentially developing a new street class designated for the 4WD weapons here in Australia.........and New Zealand! The US hasn't got the amount of 4WD's that we have so we can forgive them for the poor name choice......but fear not I am on the case. Please forward any name suggestions for the class to my email address [email protected] ...I'd be interested to know what you guys come up with. cheers for now Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  9. oh and go for the 360 deg tail shaft loop just to be safe. Additional info can be downloaded from www.andra.com.au follow the technical setion to get to the Sport Compact stuff....it's all there in black and white! Cheers Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  10. ok here goes with some answers: If you are running 'Dot' approved tyres, no chassis mods and are street based you head for the Sport RWD class. If you are running slicks, chassis mods and no exhaust then Sport Mod is your category. Methanol is can be used in Sport RWD and Sport Mod, but slick tyres can only be used in Sport Mod - the more race orientated car class. Tyres are classed two ways - 'DOT' street tyres or slicks. Your choice as to what you run, but the slicks are not allowed in Sport RWD. Heads up will stay until the sport demands it heads in a direction to 'DYO', indexing etc. Hope this has helped you work out where you fit in. Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  11. Sorry guys the boys at Ausrotary.com and the current promoters conference in Adeliade has kept me busier than a 14 yearold school boy a slack of playboys :headspin: Munro - what exactly have you done to your car .....is it a tube chassis power son of rajab or is it a street orientated missile? More info needed!! And for the record I actually had a teacher called Mr Rooney at high school! I used to tell him I had a Rotweiler that liked to hump teachers legs....he used to fail me alot. Jason O'Halloran ANDRA Sport Compact Director
  12. WOW WHAT A RESPONSE :wavey: Sorry about the late reply to all your great and important questions. I have been hangin out up in QLD at the Powercruise, you know doing some commentary and hitting cane toads with golf clubs!! I must say it was a good event, loads of tuff Skylines, and I had a ride in Theo's weapon.....hooooollllyyyy sssshhhhhiiiitttt I think i'm in love!! with the car!!! Back to the questions; 1 - 2rismo asked about ANDRA events and a calendar. We are currently working on a series of events that will cater for all of Australia's racing needs, please be patient, because as you can imagine it's not just a case of this race here and that race there. I have a lot of stakeholders and people with huge monetary interests to cater for, but the end result will be worth the wait. Our Sport Compact website is in development, and we have the lads from Fullboost.com on the case. Stay tuned as it will cater for all your needs. 2 - funkymonkey asks about VIC tracks, club affiliation, and a weird itching problem! Good questions Monk! The VIC track thing stems from a long standing issue ANDRA and the Bob Jane organsisation are working through together. You can race at a few other Vic tracks, and I know they hold ANDRA 'test and tune' days at Heathcote raceway. As for official Sport Compact events, we will need to wait until the issues between the two parties are resolved. Stay tuned! Club affiliation is something ANDRA gets behind 100%, we have some great incentives...send me some contact postal details so I may send you the relevant info. Your itching problem is one I won't touch...sorry :blah: 3 - Buster didn't ask a question, but for the record any car running quicker than 10.99 needs a cage (details at www.andra.com.au) and faster than 130mph and it time to get a parachute (which would look wicked on a streetcar!) 4 - DeanJSL asked about the ELF fuel compliance. ANDRA has a homologated fuel list to maintain parity and fair racing ethics amongst the competitiors. We offer a very easy testing proceedure to the fuel manufacturers, and encourage their involovement through low costs, and quick turn arounds on their submitted new fuels. Recently ELF requested it's 'MOTO 124' fuel to be tested. The samples were delivered less than one week before the Sydney Jambo, and they have since been give the ALL CLEAR from us here at ANDRA. OFFICIALLY ELF MOTO 124 IS APPROVED FOR US!! Thank you all for your questions, I really appreciate a bunch of car nuts getting together and delivering themselves in such a proffesional manner. I will be working with owners of all manner of vehicles to help develop the ANDRA Sport Compact rules into something we will all enjoy. I WILL ENDEAVOUR TO CATER FOR THE SKYLINE OWNERS OF AUSTRALIA. You can quote me on that one!! cheers for now Jason O'Halloran ANDRA SPort Compact Director
  13. G'Day, Thought it was high time I pulled my finger out and dropped you all intro. :wavey: My name is Jason O'Halloran (Racin Jason - the alter ego) and as most of you already know I'm the ANDRA Sport Compact Director. Man where do I start,....nah stuff it you guys know all the good news/ bad news so far. What a start to the official Sport Compact scene here in Australia!! I would like to publically thank everyone who came and made all the Sport Compact events that have been held in the last 2 months so successful. This is just the begining.....so the crowds were GOOD. The turnout of cars was GREAT. And the best bit is we have so much to look forward too. I take my hat off to you all, for with out the Tracks, the racers, the forums, the magazines, and the decent attitudes of people like NSW Premier Bob Carr - Sport Compact drag racing would be a pipe dream. Kind of ironic the main politician behind the development of WSID has a name like Carr - maybe we can get him into a turbo RX-3 and pack him a change of jocks too!!! OK so where now? We are currently revising the ANDRA Sport Compact rules, with the veiw to OZing them up a bit. They are suited more to the NHRA (USA) vehicles, and our vehicle demorgraphic is vastly different to our mates across the pond. I see great development in the 'street tyre' classes, and the development of a seperate Sport AWD/4WD is definately on the drawing board. Minimum weights are also being checked, as they favour larger vehicles. They will now doubt be revised to suit the smaller/ older vehicles that Australia is renown for, ie RX3/ Datto 1200 etc. Oh and we have a new logo about to be released as well!! It's the mutt's nuts to say the least - simple, techno, and very cool. More on that very soon! Finally, I will try to check this site for any questions you may have, so feel free to ask away. If you want to go further, try the ANDRA website for more details....hell give me a buzz if you're really stuck. I must say I love Sport Compact racing....not because I'm employed by ANDRA, but because I'm just a regular NOS sniffing, hi-flow spooling boost junkie like the rest of you. I know I'm going to make some enemies from the decisions I make, but they are all done in the best interests of the Sport. Shit, if I make as many friends as I do enemies then life will be fine. So drop me a line.....after all I'm just speed lovin, nut bar like the rest of you. Cheers for now
