Howdy all.. car is an R33 Have searched forum for anything on tacho issues and came up empty. Firstly tho', my speedo has been playing up intermittently for a while and sometimes it comes good by itself or by giving it a sharp tap with finger, it springs to life. Someone on the forum suggested that it has an electronic sender from the transmission. Does that mean it is electronic all the way to the speedo,(no cable)? If that's the case, then it would have to be the speedo or needle as it responds to a tap on the glass (Perspex), which would rule out the sender unit on the gearbox. Any thoughts welcomed. With the tacho, it only started playing up today. As soon as I started the engine on 2 or 3 occasions, the needle jumped around for a few seconds, then settled down and behaved itself. Again, any thoughts appreciated. In the event I might need to change both instruments, can anyone suggest someone that may have these items. Thanks in advance.

Eye C....so assuming the benchmark time for these tests is around 3 hours, they really aren't going to be getting too many done in a day and if all of a sudden the cops and the pits start cranking up the amount of emmision test requests on car enthusists vehicles, there could be a very long wait and inconvenience to people, which makes this one testing facility appear even more of a scam. ...and where do the carbon spewing desiel 4x4's fit into the equation along with the old poluting HQ's and XA's? Would be nice to be able to monitor which type of cars are being tested to determine who is being targeted. If it appears that it is only car enthusists, then a descrimination case could be levelled at the Minister, after all carbon spewing desiel's and old bunkies must surely be of concern to the environment.

Have been with LSV for 5 years now, they were called something else b/4, have had no traffic infringments in that time, am over 40 y/o and no claims. Last year my premium was $705.43/ $750 excess/ $18,000 cover. This year my premium will be $847.00/ $1000 excess / $16,000 cover. I reckon that sucks considering I've been the model customer from their point of view, yet I'm being penalised. $847.00 might not be so bad compared with some premiums quoted on this thread, but considering my history, age etc, I would have thought a CPI increase rather than a 20% hike would have been adequate. Will try Shannons for a quote just to see how they rate in comparison.

Nice looking car. So how much does the GTR cost?
-
Has anyone reported this scam to the ACCC and if so what has been the response. @ Turbo x-trail...you mentioned they charge $450 for the test and $135/hr x 3 hours for a total of $855. What's the $135/hr for and why 3 hours for a 4 minute test?

Thanks for that....also found some threads that mentioned other things that may contribute to the problem as well, so will try everything that's been mentioned. Need to get this sorted, just had enough of this squealing sh!t. -
Brake Pads Users Ratings Guide
ric777 replied to Snowman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
My current R33 (series2) suffers brake squeal as did my previous R33 (series 1). It's really pissing me off and it's time to do something about it. Have stock rotors and pads and used for the road only. Any recommendations appreciated. -
Hi all is an r33 s2 smic the same size as an r34 smic thanks in advance
-
they're worth about $200, but I'll be generous and give you $400 for it It is very similar to the gtr type yet not as tall, which is what I need as I want to lower my series2 and don't want the hassles of scraping everything I drive over, plus it has a decent size hole for an FMIC to breathe thru'. An importer here in Perth has one on what I imagine to be the 40th anniversery model and it has a gtr type rear wing. The importer reckoned that he could get a glass one from his supplier and after assuring me that it was the same, I ordered one and was waiting with joy that I would have one. When it arrived it turned out to be the GTR type and I was so pissed off about it,so he gave me my $$ back. Have tried every site that sells front bars but to no avail. the car in this pic is the actual one that is in Perth now. You'll notice the holes/slots either side at the bottom of the spoiler are very slim compared to the GTR, otherwise the bar is very similar to the GTR

No one makes that one. I guess you could always sell me your's ? Oh and it looks great on your car, but would be better on mine :-)

that actually looks like a series 2 40th anniversary bar which is what I'm looking for. Here's a pic below of the one I've seen Please let me know where you bought that bar as I'm wanting to buy one as well Thanks

hey Johnabs, you sent me a pm regarding a front bar for a S2 r33. I've replied but you haven't gotten back to me, please reply thanks -

Hi Guys...am chasing a front bar for my S2 R33 like the one on the pic of the white S2. It's similar to the GTR front bar but not as tall. I suspect the white one to be a factory option and have seen that particular car at an importer in Maddington. If anyone might have one F/S or any info as to where I might be able to get this particular bar I'd be most appreciative as I can't find anyone in Perth that has any clue on this one. I'll be working away from the city during the week so won't have access to the net. If anyone can help with a sale or info please sms me on 0413698848 and I'll phone you back. Thanks for viewing the bar I am wanting a GTR bar (not what I'm after)

If an R33 4D will do go have a look at Autoworx site, you'll find my old 4door for sale at a good price, it's an auto though. It's in excellent cond., the big service was done early this year and goes exceptionally well. I had it for 5 years and only did 32k kms in that time. Bought a 4 door at the time because I needed more convenience for my daughter's little bub. The car is a gem and you wouldn't be disappointed. My new S2 also bought from Autoworx

they definitely do a good job, but the whinging and whining from Fred and John (especially John) and waiting forever to get the work done is really not worth the hassle
-
yeah, they seem to be consistently cheaper than the others. The only problem I've found with them is that a day or 2 before the high price cycle kicks in, the out of order signs on the 98 pumps go up. In all the time I've been using 98 Ron fuel, I have never seen any other BP station run out of 98 (except early this year when premium or better was out for everyone). At BP Langford, it happens all the time and I queried it with them and they kept saying that they were waiting for the delivery. I'd accept that if it happened once, but not consistently and considering supplies come from their own refinery, I'm not going to accept that there has been delays in delivery of 98, on a regular basis as is the case with BP langford. After all, BP are the only service stations that have 98 in WA. I'm thinking that a majority of the 98 they buy is at the low price cycle and they get premium dollars for it, as they are selling a majority of it at the higher price cycle. You will find that when their price is at it's lowest, it will be a day or 2 before the high price cycle kicks in and that day or 2 is when the "out of order" signs go up. So in effect their low price is bogus as they allegedly don't have any to sell. They bank on the fact that most, if not all will settle for premium 95, so in effect they don't lose any sales. They just make a lot more out of their Ultimate 98. It's funny how they don't run short of any of their other fuels. I hadn't been there for months and just happened to check them out last week and sure enough, same thing was happening. One of these days I'm going to get off my ass and have them checked out. That kind of thing craps me off, more for the point of wasting peoples time in going there expecting to get the fuel they want at the price they have advertised only to find that they don't have any or so they say.

Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
ric777 replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hi all, have spent a few hours going thru' this thread on tyres and some interesting things said it has enabled me to select a couple of options. First of all, my car was fitted with Kuhmo 711 and I must say that they would have to rate as the worst tyre I have ever had and as some have said, you get what you pay for. Anyway, new tyres was a requirement with imports and I was unaware of this. Had I bothered to discover this fact, I would have paid a bit more for something a bit better as I wouldn't expect a dealer to put top line tyres on........why would they? Anyway, my "line" is an R33 series 1 that has had the boost increased to 10psi, pod and one of those mechanical boost controllers that was advertised on this site. I would expect that I am getting easily 200 flywheel BHP, which is far from a lot of cars on this site, but all the same she is quite nippy. She is auto and has one of those "snow/power" buttons, which when activated, cause the car to take off the line in second gear. Of late, these Kuhmos 711 have been spinning in second gear take off and in the dry of last summer, I even had side way sliding off the line in normal mode . Tyres have about 30-40% thread left so b4 the wet really sets in, I thought I'd change rubber. I'm not a real fan of sliding when I'm not expecting it and I'm fortunate to have ABS on this one because if it didn't, I think i would have been in the poop a few times. I plan, within the next year to do a little bit to this car so obviously I need to go for tyres that will take into account some extra performance. I guess my budget will allow for something in the higher end Toyo's and perhaps Potenzzas if a good price comes back from my brother who buys a very large amount of truck tyres from Bridgy's, he gets OEM prices on truck tyres so I hope that kind of discount is reflected in the Potenzza's . I guess the price will have to be a good bit better than the $408 per unit I was quoted by a B/Stone outlet. Oh, Kelly super chargers were real crap in the old days.........doesn't look like they have improved Anyway, thanks guys for the input has been very usefull and now, onto rear brake pads............100,000 major service is due -
