Thanx guys, I wouldn't attempt it myself tho'. V8's I've done many, but these motors are a bit more sophisticated than push rod 8's and it's the tensioning of the belt that concerns me most. The plugs I did about 15k ago, so they'd be ok.
-
Thanx Liz and gR33ddy, will keep that in mind, but for now just wondering what people have spent with changing belt and other major service items, whatever they may have been.
-
I like my Beddy van Seriously tho', I had the timing belt snap on my 626 several years ago @ 120k. Didn't know they had to be changed at the time, so will not neglect the line on this issue.
-
sorry I can't help you with the cat, but was wondering what kind of front bar is it you have on your line, looks real good

Got about 6k to go b/4 due for timing belt and although this won't be in the immediate future, need to be prepared as I've heard that a major service is done at that time. Not sure what the major service entails but need to know roughly what kind of $$ I'm going to be up for. Got paint job and graphics on Beddy van coming up early in the new year and been trying like hell to get the 3" system on the line but something always comes up. The Beddy has burnt up a lot of $$ of late, new wheels and tyres, new rad and installed twin electric fans, 3" zorst (did it myself) and fitted high riser that I've had laying around for a couple of years and a larger fuel tank (400 Chevys are thirsty). Yeah, the Beddy has kept me broke of late, luckily I do most of the work myself otherwise I'd be on bread and water for nutrition. Anyway, any clues on the belt and major service work costs would be much appreciated.

How's that for West Oz service, R33Steve

Thanx for that. It would seem that the device is some kind of miniture charger that maintains the power level of the battery. Sounds like a good idea and something I would need as often the line is sitting there for a week or more without being used and also one of my work vehicles can be sitting around for days on end. Alarms and stereo's will always be drawing a certain amount of power and it doesn't take long for a weak battery to lose all of it's power. Will definitely look into it. Thanx again

Hey GWP021, you want to elaborate on that battery defender, sounds interesting.

yeah I know they're not, it's just that after I asked about rotational idle, it seems that the toing and froing started. I guess some things work for some people and not for others. Perhaps we could have a thread where the ignorants on skylines, like me, can ask about things that they don't know about. There is so much to know. Ask me about V8's and I can tell you much, but "lines", well I'm pretty green on them.
-
sorry guys, I only wanted to know what rotational idle was
-
Hi Al, so have you obtained those spacer things or still to do it? If that is the solution there will be a lot of happy chappies around. For on vehicle balancing in Kewdale area, Bridgestone in Kewdale do it.I get my Beddy done there as other type of balancing just doesn't seem to be good for that vehicle. Fronts, that is.

I think you will find he has every authority to overturn permits, despite what the technical team may have said. In every situation, items can and HAVE been changed after the issue of permits, contrary to what the legal requirements are for that particular modification. Wheel track and body height from the ground are a couple of items that come to mind.
-
Don't want to side track this thread, but quickly, what is rotational idle??
-
No worries. Noticed you're from Rockingham, I'm in Beckenham just off the Kenwick Link, just off Rowe Highway (a good test road for tyres). If you don't have any luck with someone down that way, then pm me by mid of next week and we can arrange to do it.
-
Yes it does seem that quite a few people have the same problem and you're right about tyre places. SST, WheelSpin or one of the other Skyline mobs should be able to shed some light on the problem. Perhaps someone who is not having the same problem could swap front wheels and tyres with "Sexzila" for half an hour to see whether it is actually his wheels/tyres or something else. Mine would be available the end of next week (Frid. arvo/evening) as I am snowed under with work until then, if that is any help. I have 17" BBS with 235 Kumo's
-
If the tyres were ok for the first 1000 k's and now problems, there must be a big tyre failure, in which case should be covered by warranty.
-
Well done, now you can enjoy it fully

you'd best get onto them straight away and explain the situation, they just might extend the expiry date, if not you might now be required to get a permit to take the car to the pits (revenue). It's a crock of sh!t really, because the car would still be licensed so that should give you the right to take it to the pits at anytime without a permit b/4 the rego expires. Obviously you couldn't drive the vehicle for normal duties once the y/sticker expires. I think once a certain period of time elapses, they will ask for the plates back, which they shouldn't do if the rego is still current.

when I first got my "line", it would shudder when I reached around 115-120km/hr. The wheels were balanced, yet still that shudder. Didn't do much about it after that as I didn't often go that speed anyway. When I discovered that the insides of the front tyres were wearing bad (excessive negative camber) I got the alignment checked and camber kit had to be installed as camber was way too much on the negative side. Negative camber will not necessarily give shudder as race cars use huge amounts of -tive camber, depending on track layout. Anyway the shudder is no longer there so I suspect something else in the alignment was out. Pulling left or right doesn't necessarily have to be a symptom for the alignment to be out. A failure in a tyre wall could be a possibility for shuddering or other tyre problems. If you are able, try to swap your front wheels and tyres with one of your mates and take it for a spin. That way you will be able to discount the tyre factor. If that checks out ok, then you might look at suspension bushes or even shockies. Hope that helps

It used to be that if you gave the cop a bit of shit for giving you a sticker, they would put it horizontally on the windshield, which told the inspector at the pits to go right thru' your car and find everything possible for you to get fixed. Basically to give you a hard time. Yeah, it was common to steam the sticker and set it vertically, that way the inspector was oblivious to the goings on at the time the sticker was issued. Occasionally, we took a gamble and removed the sticker and hoped like hell that the cop didn't follow it up. You could be garanteed that the cop would follow it up if you had given him a hard time. These days, I'd say that everything is entered into the computers, so licensing will always know that yellows have been issued.

How's the wheel alignment?

I'll second that I'm glad someone else is getting their ass chewed instead of me. Of the 3, the Series 2 for me

Watch out for rangakoos etc

"Design Signs" in Kenwick (Lidlow st)does stickers. He's done a bit of Holden stuff in the past. John Wolf is his name
