I'll give you an example. Some dickheads up the road have on a number of occasions come boring down the road and slammed on their brakes right in front of my place to turn onto the street opposite me. They left quite a long skid mark on the road. On the last occasion that they did it I was out the front and picked up a piece of wood I had handy and threw it at them. I missed them as I don't throw too good, but they saw it and haven't done it again. Your example is not a very good one.

The Minister said there had been 60 deaths over the last 12 months which were related to dangerous and reckless driving. Seven of those deaths occurred in a six-week period. "In one incident, the two young occupants of a car were travelling at more than 160kmh down a freeway before the driver lost control and crashed into an embankment," she said. Mrs Roberts said there were hundreds of drivers throughout the metropolitan area who regularly terrorised their local communities through street racing, doing 'burnouts' and conducting time trials. "It is common knowledge that hoons are dearly attached to their cars or motorbikes, but if they continue to use the roads like a racetrack, then police will confiscate the possessions they value so greatly," she said. The Minister said some of the offences for which vehicles could be impounded included: doing a burnout; or as a result of dangerous or reckless driving; racing another vehicle; and speeding, accelerating or braking and skidding wildly. Mrs Roberts said combating speeding drivers was a major factor in drafting the new laws. "During the 'double demerits' long weekends (42 days) in 2002-03, police detected more than 100 people speeding at more than 45kmh over the limit," she said. "The most excessive speed was nearly 100kmh over the legal limit and the highest was 122kmh in a 50kmh zone." Under the new laws: people caught racing their cars or doing burnouts will have their vehicles seized and impounded for up to 48 hours; if a second offence occurs, the car will be impounded for up to three months and the driver's licence could be suspended; if there is a third offence, the vehicle will be forfeited and the driver's licence could be cancelled; and drivers caught travelling 45kmh or more above the legal limit also risk having their licences cancelled. It's fair to say that anything under 45km/h over the limit will just come under the standard fine/demerit points system, unless of course reckless or dangerous driving is also involved. the other highlighted item gives you an idea why this law was brought in. I don't think it was a petty thing

Man, I can't believe some of the bullshit I read on this thread. QUOTE "isn't that what speeding fines are for?" Are you not aware how much 70km/h over the limit is? I think it's fair to say that everyone owning Jap imports will be well aware of this new law even if it's only of it's implementation and it's fair to say that the idiot that BOO5T mentioned in the champagne Silvia would have been aware also. Considering the severity of the offense, I think it's fair to say that he just doesn't give a shit about the law and worse still, has no regard for human life. If I were the authorities I would be bypassing the first 2 stages and just implementing the third stage. But then that's just me having less tollerance than the authorities for the mindless acts of hoons. And SEXZILA comments about Quote "Government makes money again……….." If you read what's involved in the entire process you might realise that it's not going to make bugger all for the govt. especially when it involves so few people. And RIAZZ, Quote "people who are too scared to drive 60 or 50 or 40 past schools " Just ask my cousin what it feels like watching someones heart being torn out after telling them that their child was run down by some speeding hoon. And from NIZMO Quote "i cam very close the other day - got caught doing 39kms hour over the limit. Its suprisingly how easy it is ...... and the copper was hiding in someones front yard in an unmarked car behind their bush ..... hmmm and that isnt revenue raising. **mumbles underbreath**" from someone who recently had a nasty accident, it's obvious not much was learnt from the experience.

In another thread on the same subject I stated that back in the days of the Shakers, Monaros XU1's etc, there were bent cops and there was the odd case of a cop wrongfully booking a "hoon". Nothing has changed and it's up to the individuals to make sure the cops have no reason to pick on them. If you suggest that there isn't a problem with hoons then it's going to be difficult getting your head around these laws. That Leach Highway incident cost 2 lives, just because of some "hoon" and that's not an isolated incident. The differences we have now compared to the old days is the ****tail of drugs that are available now and the amount of people using them while driving is quite frankly very disturbing. Add to that the amount of alchohol used per capita now and cars that are so much faster, throw in some mindless hoons and it's not surprising that we have disasters occurring and consequently new laws. If the potential exists that a bent cop can exploit these laws and many people are concerned, then I'd suggest that SAU, as a club, should lobby the Govt. to put some safeguards in place. The members themselves need to set an example so that the cops will have some kind of respect for SAU people. But I get a little concerned when I read some of the comments in this thread and anyone from the outside reading these comments would probably feel the same. I've always said that the ones who make the most noise are usually the ones that these types of laws will affect. I really think that some of the SAU members need to put aside their selfish attitude and think about the people that have lost a family member to hoons.

And you say they are over reacting?? The Minister said some of the offences for which vehicles could be impounded included: doing a burnout; or as a result of dangerous or reckless driving; racing another vehicle; and speeding, accelerating or braking and skidding wildly. Mrs Roberts said combating speeding drivers was a major factor in drafting the new laws. Is it that hard to understand what hooning is?? Defines it quite clearly I would think "During the 'double demerits' long weekends (42 days) in 2002-03, police detected more than 100 people speeding at more than 45kmh over the limit," she said. "The most excessive speed was nearly 100kmh over the legal limit and the highest was 122kmh in a 50kmh zone." Double demerits and people still won't listen Under the new laws: people caught racing their cars or doing burnouts will have their vehicles seized and impounded for up to 48 hours; if a second offence occurs, the car will be impounded for up to three months and the driver's licence could be suspended; if there is a third offence, the vehicle will be forfeited and the driver's licence could be cancelled; and drivers caught travelling 45kmh or more above the legal limit also risk having their licences cancelled. Can not see what the problem is. Most people with half a brain would wake up after the first warning, which is a fair warning I would reckon. Judging by the reaction on this thread, it would seem that some peoples toes are being stepped on. Got stopped last Sunday doing 18 over the limit. They booked me for 16 over. The sheila cop did the booking and the male cop looked over the car and said "nice car". Judging by some of the comments on this thread, I'd say that half your problem when you get stopped is attitude. Can hardly blame a cop for getting ferral.

Eye C. still had to change as I considered $325 too good a saving to pass by. As expensive as the parts might be, I can't see them being much more than an XR6 turbo. My cousin's is insured for $42,000 at $780. I think that the import thing is exploited some what. Unique Car Insurance came it at the same price as Torque.

Have a look at the first post of this thread

Hi Riaz, you got me the policy that I have had for almost 2 years and I was grateful for the quote you gave me and the help you were. I can't say the same for your organisation who as a non profit organisation and brag how they help their customers etc, etc, turn around and basically shaft those who maintain a good record. As stated b/4, I was expecting a cpi increase and would have stayed put if that's all it was. But to be told that my area had been re-rated and that's why the increase was as much as it is, was basically unacceptable considering the policy stated that the car is garaged, which it is and has a alarm/immobiliser, so in my opinion I don't really give a rats ass what area a car is housed, the effort involved in stealing a car from a garage is incomparable to stealing a car from a carport or in the open. I don't buy that re-rating horse shit at all. Torque insurance are a profit based business and if they can come in at $325 cheaper, then my old insurer probably needs to reaccess their procedures. Perhaps you could teach some of your collegues the art of good PR
-
sometimes I'd gladly pay the $2000 just to be able to turn the clock back 20 years and take my "line" back with me.
-
yeah, they didn't seem concerned at all that it was a "line". Some make you feel like a criminal because you dare ask for insurance for a skyline.
-
Thanx for the info Red Sky. Phoned Torque insurance and they quoted $740 for $18,000. That's $200 less than Shannons and $325 less than HBF. Am going with Torque as I don't think that their quote will be bettered. Again, thanx a lot, will have to buy you a CC sometime.
-
Thanx for the info, I'll give them a call tomorrow. Just Cars came back with an online quote (preliminary) of $794 for $14,000 cover. I was wanting the cover to be around $18,000 so that may not work out with them. They will probably say that's all it's worth. Will see when I speak to them tomorrow.
-
that must be why some are insured with them and those who don't have any policies with them won't get an import insured, although they didn't ask if I had any current policies with them, just said they don't insure imports. Maybe they are getting out of imports altogether.
-
that's pretty good, is their office in W.A.? Do you have mods to your car?
-
well over 30, like over 40 RAC deserve every bit of abuse that could be dished out. Hate that mob. After having contents insurance with them for 4 years and no claims, they decided to reward me with a 54% increase on my policy premium. That was 3 years ago. Didn't renew my policy with them. I applied online for a quote with Just Cars and Suncorp. Just Cars should come in with a good quote. With only 2 zero point $50 speeding fines almost 5 years ago, 23 months with no claims with HBF, currently 60%ncb, no prangs or claims for over 20 years, car is garaged and only used a couple of times a week, what the f*** more would they want? I would have thought that HBF would have begged to keep my policy with them.
-
it may be like you said about house and contents, in which case they shouldn't say that they don't insure imports or they may have just changed their policy on imports.
-
Hi all, recentley got my insurance renewal and it went up by $187 to $1065 and agreed value $18,000, down from $19,000.That's about 21% increase. Was happy with my previous policy and was expecting a CPI increase, but not 21%. So i called HBF to ask why so much of an increase, considering that I have been with them for 23 months and made no claims, am on 60%ncb and well over 30yo. They said that my area had been re-rated :bs!: . Bollocks, the bloody car is garaged, has a very good alarm/immobiliser system and used only a couple of times a week. Not much of a risk I would have thought and I told them in no uncertain terms that I didn't consider HBF to be too helpful or considerate to their members as they would have us believe. Also mentioned that according to an article on the news a couple of weeks ago, it was stated that car premiums were expected to go down a little because car thefts had gone down quite a bit. That didn't make any difference.Their attitude was totally different to when I first joined them. Anyway, got a quote from Shannons and they came in at $940 on 65% no claim discount, (didn't think there was any higher than 60%). Not bad I thought. Just wondering if anyone has been able to get a cheaper price for the same agreed value. My cousin bought a near new XR6 turbo and is insured for $42,000 with a premium of only $780 from QBE (they wont insure imports). This bollocks about imports attracting higher premiums really pisses me off. It's obviously a scam. I couldn't see parts for an XR6 turbo being cheaper than a Skyline.

Believe me, you handled it correctly. The rude type cops are just waiting for their victim to react. It then justifies their manner. Not sure of the laws regarding unroadworthy vehicles in the state you live in, but here in the west, it only takes a small thing and they can put a sticker on your car, something that they wouldn't normally bother with. So if their victim reacts, then they go looking for that little thing and that can cause so much more time wasting and frustration for you than just being pulled over as you were. Also, they will keep their eyes open for you in the future and if your car stands out at all, it makes it all that much easier for them. You might think that they beat you, but you actually won, because you didn't fall for their provocation, thereby saving yourself a lot of unnecessary frustration. You will get the odd cop that will book you for something regardless how you well you conduct yourself, but most will back off when they see that you are being respectful, even if they don't deserve it.

No, man. For me sixes just don't have the sound. Not even V6's. The closest thing to an 8, is the V10 (Viper). I guess it's personal preference and I'm not knocking anyone for what they like. Some of those 253's of yesteryear sounded pretty ordinary, a whole bunch of noise and went nowhere. The 3" I will have fitted soon will be a quiet one (low rumble rather than a high pitched bark).
-
Yeah, and even tho' I'm rapped with my Line, nothing could ever sound as good as an 8
-
The second light is to confirm if you did in fact go thru' as the shiela told me when I phoned up about it. It's got stuff all to do with measuring speed. To measure speed in a front or rear shot would require markings on the road to determine the exact position of the vehicle in both shots. Side shots would be easier. The lines are a guide as to where to stop and the fact that a person has gone just over rather than proceed thru the intersection would show a court or anyone in authority that the person took the correct action to stop. Judgement differs from person to person in regard to the amber light and the duration of the amber light can differ in different locations as well. The shiela I spoke to said that whether an inch or a foot over the line would not constitute going thru an intersection on a red light. The second photo will prove if the person hasn't stopped. I didn't get fined and anyone who has, has been conned. They should have fought it. If they have come up with a separate infringement for stopping past the line rather than b/4 the line at traffic lights, then I guess you couldn't do much about it other than calling them a bunch of pricks. If I remember correctly, a copper could fine you for stopping past the line at a stop sign. That is a different situation than at traffic lights, because at a stop sign you must stop regardless, so judgement is not a factor.

http://www.jappartswa.com.au/products.html the list of cars catered for are in this link. You might like to email them on anything specific you might require. They would be happy to assist where possible.

They can probably get it landed here cheaper than buying it locally. The Oz suppliers really should not be so ruthless with there prices considering how much they pay for them in the first place. By getting the parts from Japan, it also enables the insurance company to really piss us off waiting so long to get the car back on the road.
-
Not a lot, except if you meet them at the traffic lights, you can do as I have done and tell them if they can't do the speed limit then get off the road and stop obstructing traffic.
