Hey, I got a Exedy Heavy Duty with 1050kg pressure plate installed into my r32 GTS-t couple of days ago. Ive noticed that all my gears are notchy now when they are shifted into. You can feel a resistance when pushing it into gear. This is also evident in Gear 1 when stationary. (ie. there is a resistance in half way of its travel and then extra push has to be done) Once it clicks into place it can be pulled out/in easily until clutch is released and pressed in again. Could anyone please explain what the problem could be? Mechanic told me it was my syncro's in the gearbox and because its a heavy duty clutch it wont be the same as stock. But gear 1 doesnt have any syncro's so it shouldnt be notchy?! He adjusted the clutch pedal, brining it further out, but the notchyness is still there. Could someone provide me a good possible solution to the problem so i could chase up this problem? I did not have this problem with my old clutch, only happened after new clutch was installed.... Thanks all

Crunching First Gear
Rekin replied to chinkeboi's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I found this, hope it may help; =================================================== Service Information - Bulletin Number 23 01 99 SUBJECT: Manual Transmission Difficult to Shift - Diagnostic Tips MODEL: All with Manual Transmission SITUATION: Transmission may be difficult to shift especially first gear engagement and/or gear shift linkage is binding. Note: Field observations have indicated that a transmission which is difficult to shift (especially into first gear) is primarily a clutch related problem and only in isolated cases a failure in the transmission itself. PROCEDURE: Verify the customer complaint: Note: Engage the parking brake and assure that no people or objects are in the vehicle's path. - - Run the engine at idle speed - - Press the clutch pedal to the floor - - From the neutral stick shift position engage first gear If first gear is difficult to engage, hold the stick shift at the resistance point (approximately half of the total stick shift travel) with constant force. Then switch the ignition off with the other hand. DIAGNOSIS 1: If first gear now engages completely, i.e. the stick shift moves to the end position without any additional pressure applied, there is a problem in the clutch system. Explanation: Because the clutch does not uncouple completely, a residual torque is transmitted to the transmission input shaft when the engine is running. This inhibits the release and meshing of the sliding sleeve, in the transmission, at the end of the synchronization process. Turning the engine off relieves the input shaft of this torque thus simulating a completely uncoupled clutch. DIAGNOSIS 2: If the stick shift remains at the resistance point, there is a problem in the external gear shift linkage or in the transmission. CAUSE: DIAGNOSIS 1: Possible causes for a clutch problem as per Diagnosis 1 above are: - - Input shaft taper splines not lubricated properly/grease dried out. - - Clutch disc difficult to move on transmission input shaft. - - Clutch disc wobble. - - Air in the hydraulic system of clutch mechanism. - - Release bearing defective or difficult to move on the guide sleeve. - - Clutch disc or pressure plate broken/worn out. DIAGNOSIS 2: Possible causes for gear shift linkage binding and/or internal transmission problems as per Diagnosis 2 above: - - External gearshift linkage binding (shift rod joints stiff). - - Stick shift bellows boot incorrectly installed (positioned too high or too low on the stick shift lever). - - Sound deadening between the outer gear shift linkage and the body incorrectly installed and/or distorted. Possible causes inside of the transmission: - - Faulty synchronization. - - Internal gear shift linkage binding. - - Water in the transmission fluid. (rare) =================================================================== -

Problem is that their factory weight on their system is generalized for each year/series of the model of the car and its basically guilty until proven innocent. I spent 30mins arguing with Pettet that series 2 r32 is legal but as i had no proof his word over-ruled mine. Although dmr's measured weight was with petrol, engine oil, water etc it is still something to contest a police officer with if he doubts the legality of the car. I wonder if Nissan Australia could provide factory weight specifications for r32's...
-
i tried to show the cop the weight of the car in my nissan manual but it wasnt in there. Made my self look like a fool and didnt strengthen my argument (probably thought i found it but lied it wasnt in there) :S What does your Nissan Manual state the weight of the car to be? Police said that it needs to be unladen mass and NOT the kerb weight.

i thought rolling lip was rolling the lip flat with the panel and flarring guards is what the pics show above?

So the microfibre cloth shouldnt be wet when washing the car? I always dunked it into the bucked and took it out blobbing as much soapy water onto the panel before moving arm to wash it Cheers for the info

I got mine from Nissan dealer. Ordered in morning, received in the afternoon But with all nissan original parts it will cost you i think i paid $50~ for a brand new nissan factory top radiator hose. Im suprised why Nissan even have a JDM car radiator hose in Australia on stock lol JustJap sells radiator hoses too and I think Autobarn now sells them too.

series 2 r32 (1991-1993) is heavier due to the side intrusion bars from factory. Which makes it P-Plate legal over the 1989-1990 model. Although, when i was pulled over by the police, their system showed my r32 as 1250kg unladen mass. Going by my given estimate of 157kw factory, their on the spot calculation determined my car as over the p/w law (125kw) They told me due to the 1kw over the limit they will let it slide but if i had an accident they would charge me for high-powered vehicle and insurance will be void. I bet the system uses the same weight for all models of r32's making mine illegal, when its not. Next time ill just tell them its 155kw from factory and everything will be fine

sounds like they knew what they were doing and most likely not some amatures. Probably done it before on someone else and it was unlucky that you were the next target hope you get all of it sorted out and get your money back!

lol how cant you see it? there should be a silver line running down the centre of the front windscreen. Everyone spots it as soon as they jump in the car. Took me a couple of days to ignore it whilst driving lol I think Chris Rogers mentioned in another thread that the antenna changes between front and rear windscreen to get the best reception?

i have sitting next to me a peice of my friends r32 turbo compressor wheel which shot out through his exhaust. He was running 15psi + flutter, did a couple of drag runs and bang pop. I think safe boost level is 13-14psi although quite a few people run at 15psi. Cheers

oo ive been researching about this also. If you read the user manual on the mearkat website, i think you can have an overide switch. Once i lowered my car, I get knocking sound on both front wheels. Suspension guy said it was my upper arm bushes knocking. Told me to get camber/castor bushes to stiffen everything up hope that helps? edit; seeing as you are in Melbourne, drop by to Traction Tyres in Rowville and they will explain everything. http://tractiontyres.com.au/

please elaborate on inner guards = defect? as i never thought it would be. I cut out the top part of the inner guard, leaving the sides still in place, cable tied the wires, and insulated some wires/holes. How would a cop notice no inner guards if the car is lowered?
