I read somwhere, that common cause of starting problems is due to the engine being cold. Metal expands when its cold and this causes the compression in pistons to have leaks hence the poor idling? Seeing as R32 is an old engine, it would be worn and be more prone to leaking etc etc. Not sure how valid this theory is haha.

What Ray at ReCustoms said, was that the r32 smic had smaller inlet/outlet holes which would have restricted air flow. Also that the smic placed in was cleaned out whilst the 13yr old r32 smic would have been clogged up with crap. Edit; The car is running on stock boost, dont have any form of boost controller in car so its stock. Ray claimed that there was an increase of 0.5~ due to less restriction. Stock r32 boost is edit:10psi as indicated in the first graph

sounds like my r32, it sorta struggles to start up and sometimes needs a press on the accel to get revs up. Not sure if its same prob

Spoke to another panel beater who paints in 2pak but does not bake. Says cut/polish can happen after 2 weeks.

Had similar Probs with my r32. My aac valve was blocked and caused idle hunting and a real bad grumbling sound when car reved and fell back down to idle. Check O2 sensor as Paul advised. - Patrick

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...hesitating+cold the problem is in the ECU. it is nissans way of warming up the engine with minimal stress on the engine. it goes into rich and retarded mapping up until something like 3300rpm or until you put your foot down a bit more. do it next time you drive it cold, keep your foot at the same level and get to around 3300 and you will notice a sudden rush as the fuel and ignition maps have gone back to normal. it is completely normal

mmm i think its a common problem for r32's. I remember reading a thread about it. Just let the car warm up whilst driving slowly and it should be fine

ahhh cool thanks for that. Yeah basically the car will be waxed a couple of days after the painting and was afraid the wax would prevent the paint curing, but this only affects acrylic as you mentioned. Cheers for all the help and I hope this thread has helped others - Patrick

Thanks very much for the info Mike! Reason I ask is because I'd like my car to get a full detail but i am afraid that the detail may damage the freshly painted area's of the car. (spoiler, sideskirts, frontbar) So if its painted in 2pac enamel and given a week to cure, a full exterior detail will not cause any damage? (with a buffer) Cheers

sure i could wait around a month and avoid any risks, but i would like to know if there is a reason to wait. After all, this could be just some old procedure which has now been eliminated due to the advancements of paint technology...

Hey, Went to a detailer who used to own a panel beating shop and was telling me how he still paints small things. (sideskirts, front bar etc) He was telling me that you can cut/polish a new spray after 1hr of paint being applied due to the new style of paint being used. Enamel i think he referred to it as? He claimed that the old style acrylic is what needs to cure for over a month before it can be cut/polished/waxed. Does anyone have any information whether this is true or not? Ive always heard people say you need to give paint a couple of months before waxing etc etc Cheers - Patrick

Sorry to bring up an old post Just got my r34 smic and cleaned it. Used Petrol to clean the inside and had plenty of good blackness coming out of the other side. Gave it a wash with water, the inside still smells like petrol..Would this cause any issues once its on the car? Will be getting it fitted on Wednesday with a dyno before/after fit to see the result Will keep you updated. Cheers
