Hey guys, Today out of no where a whining sound relative to my motor's speed came up. The sound is really hard to describe but it's definitely an off-sounding whine that doesn't sound good. At the same time I could also smell something burning. At first I thought it would be one of my belts or pulleys but they were all fine. I was thinking it might be my clutch fan but not sure, how do they sound when they are on their way out?? Anyway I went for a drive and when I got home the whine was gone, so the problem seems erratic/random. The whine sounds very serious and it makes me too scared to drive my car. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Thanks

hahah I saw that when they did my brakes, but it's kind of too far for me to travel out just for oil. Thanks anyway

Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone here knows where I can get Motul Gear 300 oil. I looked everywhere, my local Autobarn, Supercheap, Repco with no luck. Decided to ring around to other Autobarns and none have it except for Moorabin but they only had 2 bottles left (need 3) and apparently they had a shortage at Motul's end. Anyone know of other places that may have it? (Kind of need it soon as I'm going to change the box and I obviously can't drive the car until it has gear oil ) Thanks

I don't see how it can be too old. If it's been well-maintained then go for it. Our cars look newer than they really are compared to local cars anyway!

It's good, very quiet on idle and normal driving but once you open it up it has a nice agressive "growl". No drone at all, I love it.

Damn it, now I can't decide between Motul and Redline. I think I'm leaning towards the Redline as a 15 year old gearbox won't be in "mint" condition, more like 50% worn, if not totally stuffed.

So is there any conclusive evidence against Redline oils on new gearboxs/syncros? This topic really left me undecided because I'm putting in a new box but still with an unknown condition. :

IMO it has a nice note, which was my 2nd reason for buying the exhaust. Before the PE2 I just had a straight-through 3 inch catback, sure it was very loud but it just didn't have the right note/growl, it was just loudness. I'm actually more satisfied with the PE2, quiet but very nice note. Don't people buy exhausts for the note anymore these days, or is it all about the louder you go the bigger penis you get? (Peformance being main reason of course I hope)

Why do you want the Blitz? The Trust Power Extreme II is very quiet but still gives off an awesome growl when you give it to it. I believe it is also 88dB alone (stock dump + front pipe) as well, so all legal. (Info from Trust site)

If you find that your local dealer isn't very helpful you can try Gary Lechte Nissan in Frankston. Fairly knowledgable about imports (by using FAST ) and their prices are pretty resonable, or close to trade for me anyway. Might be because I was a regular visitor for a certain period of time. Hopefully I don't need to see them as often anymore.
