  1. Thanks for the suggestions - will get out the multimeter and do some more digging, the way it briefly worked the other day makes me wonder if it is indeed just a broken/loose plug - or even could be just the LED not working - will have the car road legal soonish so will actually be able to test out properly if it changes anything by having the switch on/off. When sorting out the wiring was going off of the wiring schematic for an r33 rb20e auto (in the engine/workshop manual) which I'm pretty sure is more or less an identical setup to c34 - there was no data bus between the ECU/TCU just some pretty basic inputs/outputs - throttle position feeds into the TCU which when not hooked up made it shift at really high rpm even on light throttle - once connected works mint - signals from TCU to ECU for what gear it's in - my understanding is this affects ignition timing on the auto ecu
  2. Hi Guys, looking for some info on how the snow/snow switch works from the electrical side of things or some kind of manual that shows the transmission wiring etc (don't see anything in the workshop/engine manual). Vehicle is a C34 Laurel, originally rb20e auto (3speed+OD). The switch used to always light up orange when switched to power mode. I swapped the engine to a rb20det, ever since then the snow mode still works, but the power mode doesn't (at least 99% of the time but weirdly it did work the other day out of the blue for about 5min then stopped again). Wiring wise: - all of the wiring from the trans to the body/transmission computer are unchanged from factory. - wiring FROM engine loom/ECU TO the trans control unit (related to throttle position) are hooked up - wiring FROM trans control unit TO the engine ECU (which tell the ECU what gear it's in) are not connected as it's a manual ECU Transmission operates and shifts fine - just the power mode doesn't seem to engage, assume something with the wiring but weird that it did actually work briefly the other day which got me wondering if there is some other variable at play. Anybody out there have any ideas or know where to find a workshop manual for the transmission?
  3. Yea I was wondering whether the amount of play in the cv's is actually normal and if what I'm feeling when driving is subframe bushes/diff mounts, I will pull it all to bits soon and inspect it properly.
  4. On my GTS-t I can feel and hear a bit of a clunk in the rear sometimes when going on/off throttle, especially at low speeds like in a carpark etc. It seems like there may be excess play in the rear outer cv's, the clunk can be felt by turning the driveshaft back and forth by hand (probably about 20mm) with the rear wheels sitting on the ground so they can't move, there's no excessive play in the diff itself, you can see the axles turn right away with the driveshaft but it seems like there is a little bit of slop in the outer cv's before the wheel actually tries to turn. Anybody else experienced this, and are they serviceable?
  5. It was the center/hanger bearing, when checking under the car the first time it seemed ok but after dropping the driveshaft I found that the rubber was intact but the bearing itself had a fair bit of play in it so I think when the driveshaft was spinning at certain speeds it was causing it to vibrate, replaced it today and the noise is totally gone. Happy days.
  6. Hmm I got a much needed wheel alignment and it seems to have made the vibration/noise 90% disappear, my guess is that something is still not quite right and the wheels being out of alignment was making it more pronounced. I'm thinking it could potentially be a wheel bearing in the very early stages of starting to go and just rumbling a bit? Had a good look under the rear this morning at hanger bearing, u-joints, axles, hicas tie rods, everything seems good/tight (doesn't mean something isn't out of balance), then went for a 150km drive through some windy hills and didn't really notice the vibration/noise at all but once I was back on the flat smooth roads in town I could only just detect it. Might just have to give it some time and see if it worsens.
  7. My gts-t is driving me nuts with a very faint vibration (can hear it and feel it through the seat) from the rear? that starts around 50 kph and then kind of dies out again and comes back around 100 kph (seems to get faster when it comes back), I had a look around at the back, one of the Hicas balljoints was gone and the wheel had about 5mm play, I have replaced that but it did not made a difference, also have tried a different set of rims and tyres to rule out a balancing issue, no difference. Wheel alignment isn't great, pulls quite hard to the left, going to go for one soon but I'm not sure that would cause a vibration? I'm thinking maybe a wheel bearing starting to go, failing that maybe gearbox output/driveshaft? Any thing else back there that might cause this?
