Sorry, but I don't agree with you on that one gary. Basically, there are Australian Standards (ADR). Your car has to comply with ADR.
Essentially, say for example,w hen you first bought your car, it would have had nissan brake pads. They would have been ADR compliant. When bendix make brake pads, they are ADR compliant, and therefore, they are legal.
Same as the window wipers, etc.
If you check the RTA's website, there is a fact sheet about suspension/chassis modifications.
But I do agree with you in regards the insurance and accident point
