What birnie said is spot on the money. Agreed 100%. Putting in an aftermarket turbo without a tune is not recommended for a few reasons. It's not really safe (if the airflow is in excess of generally what's safe. As birnie said, if boost is lowish, it MIGHT not be dangerous. This leads me onto the next point. It is of no benefit to have an untuned computer wiht an aftermarket turbo. It will be slower, both because the ECU can't handle it, as well as the fact that naturally, a bigger turbo is less responsive. At the moment, I've got a highflow on my car untuned, and it's a lot slower.

give ben|1981 a pm. he has one from an r32 gtr. I've seen a fair few nissan ones, and they usually seem to be the same. Give him a pm, good chance it's the same. r33 gtr ones cost a fortune

The turbo is most liekly blown. When the turbo blows, it doens't have to blow smoke. I have one here without a rear wheel that didn't leak a drop of smoke. Could be expensive if the ceramic dust went back up into your engine taking the engine with it. If not, you're up for a set of turbos, plus the labour

The second half of the poll isn't entirely accurate. I don't drive my car interstate, because I don't really drive interstate much. If I go interestate, I normally fly. If I was going to, I wouldn't drive my car, i'd drive my daily. My car's really bumpy, very loud, uses a lot of petrol. It's not really a daily driver - that's what my other car's for.

I'd take something made in china over something made in boganville anyday. Those knowledgeable people out there will agree with me that China has some very high quality stuff and it can be at a very good price. The thing is with China is that labour is very low, which works in your favour. Of course, there are vastly different levels of quality control ranging from very precise, to fairly ordinary. If you know how to buy, you can get good stuff for a very reasonable price. Even the cheap stuff isn't too bad considering you didn't pay much for it anyways. Compared to australia.... extremely overpriced and shit quality. I know someone who installs those ebay turbos, and hasn't had problems with them. It's your choice at the end of the day though. I think a lot of people whinge about the ebay turbos when they don't really ahve experience wiht them at all (not all people, some). It's a bit silly isn't it wanting to upgrade turbo and not wanting to spend more than $800. Wanting and getting are two different stories aren't they. I want 5 hot chicks, but I don't have 5 atm. What about ecu, injectors, maf, exhaust, clutch, wheels, tyres, diff, suspensions, tune etc that you need to make use of the turbo? If you can spare more money now, then do it, if not, 'put up' with what you have until you do. It's not like the stock turbo'd engine is weak by anymeans. It's not crazily fast, but it's certainly faster than most cars out there. Cheers

This is what I noticed: 1. sound didn't get much louder at all. 2. power increase was a fair bit. For the person who said smashing it will make less power, sure if you get 3" pipe welded through it, it'll have more power, but it's not exactly going to rob power if you smash it out without putting pipe inside. Think of it as a small muffler (cat body) compared to having a plug in your exhaust (cat). It still made quite a difference smashing it. 3. bumper didn't really get any dirtier. Our cars run a bit rich anyways, so the bumper naturally gets a little soot on it. Didn't make anymore soot. 4. smells? not really hey. Exhaust fumes normally stink and of course you shoudlnt' breath them in normally - carbon monoxide. I didn't notice it being more smellier after. 4. flames - come on guys, it's not like it's flaming 24/7 or something. it's not like it flames on idle or something. It flames if you're absoloutely killing it and evyerthing's really hot. If you've been hitting it, and if you let go at wot, then it might flame. The flame is really quick, and it never really burnt anything of mine (doesn't really get near it, just striaght out.

I think he meant your tape, heatshrink, wiring, cable ties. I would hazard a guess and say no?

Where To Buy R34gt Battery In Sydney?
MANWHORE replied to R34 Rampage's topic in General Maintenance
Spot on the money razor. Most jap cars (not the aussie delivered ones like camrys) used the small terminals. Hop down to battery world, and most batteries come in big or small terminal. We're not in the ice age anymore where bogan terminal batts are the only thing on sale. NRMA usually have big terminal ones, but i'm suprised they dind't at least have some small terminal ones. Maybe they did, but they weren't big enough interms of cca. At b82rz world, they have massive cca in small terminals. Look for amaron batteries - silver calcium low maintenance (maint free but not full sealed - no good for r33 in the boot) but they're a great battery. -
My Car Feels Like It's Hitting R&r But It's A Remaped Ecu
MANWHORE replied to WogsRus's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
paul, wog's car's been working all this time. it's only now. It sounds like it could be a spark issue like coilpacks or sparkies. I know you got splitos, but have you got new sparkies? what gap? I remember reading a thread where people had problems with highboost and splitos. could be that? -
garantee it's not the batt. My car is the same as yours, and I have a new powerful batt.
-
I just meant it was a bitch in the sense that it scratches the side trims when you take the seat out. Yes i'm anal You hsould be right mate Also, face the sub box backwards. Easiest (not necessarily best looking place to moun tthe sub is just on the side of the box.

PM ben|1981. He has one in sydney right now. He's a nice guy too
-
dos and don'ts don't put rcas near power (not so much of an issue with our cars since the batt is in the boot). it will cause noise. The best place to run the rcas is down the side (under the skyline panel, then along the backseat, then there are holes under the back seat. IT's a pain to pull the seats out, but hey, you only have to do it once. hope that helps. Anymore qs, feel free to ask. I'm crazily busy with uni atm (just coming up to exams), otherwise i'd be able to give you a hand

Trying To Find Out What This Looked Like Before The Hole
MANWHORE replied to SMOKE'M's topic in General Automotive Discussion
that's an absolute crackup -
When I said tightening the bolt won't fix it, I should have elaborated better. Tightening it (if it is a crack) won't make it perfect. If the turbo to man bolt is very loose and leaking a lot, of course tightening it will help. But if there is a crack, just the stock nissan gasket isn't 'spongy' enough to be able to seal perfectly, but of course reducing the gap will help quite a bit if it's loose. I still think it's a crack. I've got a few of those housings here, and I have never seen that before. Now, whetehr that crack actually goes 'all the way through' or not, that is another story, but I still think it's a craack.

Where To Buy R34gt Battery In Sydney?
MANWHORE replied to R34 Rampage's topic in General Maintenance
I doubt that r34 batteries are hard to get at all. with r33s, you need sealed batteries sicne it's in the boot. Even then, there are lots of varieties of sealed batteries, and there are many that fit. With the last r34 that we changed the battery on, it just has a battery under the bonnet. Just whack any thing under there with the right terminal size. It's no biggy. As opposed to r33s that requires sealed ones, with an r34, how much you want to spend is up to you. From $50-500 -
Sure, a pump can be doa, but it's unliekly. The question you should be asking yourself is, how much knowledge do you have in relation to installing pumps, wiring correctly etc. Is the pump getting power? can you hear it prime? did you put the fuel pump relay back in? tested the wiring for power etc? It's really hard diagnosing a problem over the internet.

Tightening the bolt won't fix it.
-
Why would it? It's the exhaust housing. You should be able to spray anything down there without it affecting revs That is 100% a crack. See how the gasket in the middle is black? exhaust gas is leaking out there. IT's because the turbo's cracked, so the gasket can't seal. Just change the turbo. they're cheap. did you buy that turbo off a car that was in an accident or something? Was it there when you bought it?
