  1. Haha, I like it too. It's sick. At first, I was wondering whether I had left the vac line to the bov disconnected. hahaha, I was like far out that's sick.
  2. Thanks guys, there have been a lot of good replies in this thread amongst the threads about other things. Gazee, that's exactly what i'm talking about. Spot on the money. My aim was to understand what it was about this turbo that does that, whetehr it was compressor maps etc etc. This is not my first turbo change, nor is it my first turbo car. I've actually had more experience with 1JZs, and i haven't seen this (just as a matter of interest). but yeah, that's what i'm talking about - i haven't seen other similar turbos do the flutter at low rpm. I have seen flutter at high rpm - because the stock bov can't release air quick enough, so some goes back through the turbo, but just hadn't seen it at low rpm. Edit: Gaz, my car came stock with a 6mm one, not the 4mm one. No there aren't any holes in it (if anyone asks)
  3. Thanks for the reply ash, I've got a gtr bov down here that I was just about to pop on. I just wanted an explanation of the phenomena experienced. I know know the reason why. Thanks guys, hvae a good one.
  4. I'm not going to argue with you about this, but, i spoke to the mechanic who installed your turbo about the install?
  5. oh ok, that's interesting food for thought jase. I know that nissan is renowned for part sharing (all car manufacturers are). Just a guess, since s14 injectors and r33 injectors are the same. If the part numbers are the same, maybe that means that nissan went lazy and reused the exact cradle on both cars who knows, all that I can say, is in regards to the valve, if I got a nice shiny new valve, i'd be like you beauty and pop it in anyways
  6. You have clearly diverted from the aim of this thread. As you are not the one that installed your turbo or any of your mods, clearly, you are unaware of fitment of the turbo. It is easy to be a backseat mechanic and look at a part and go oh yeh, you undo some bolts, undo some lines, take it off the manifold. Installing it is a totally different story. My aim of this thread was to attempt to develop theories on the topic. I.e. hoping that information would be shared for the benefit of all to see. However, as the thread keeps getting diverted and people are arguing on other topics, that's fine. I'm going to stop replying to this thread, and i'll discuss this topic over pm. As a result, information is no longer shared.
  7. what car - pm ben|1981 tell him that chris recommended him to you - he's got one.
  8. Haha, they charge you $2 man. lol. it's well worth the entry fee, coz it's fun doing things to other cars that you wouldn't do to your own (joking) The $2 is for a whole day. So you can go in, get measurements, take the part out to your car, measure it, take it back in, get one from antoher car, etc etc etc. evesdropping - oh, you mean the good old - little things fell into the toolbox.
  9. Yogi, the bov is working, aboive 4k rpm
  10. hey ducki, are you running a pod filter? or standard airbox. If you're running the airbox, you probably won't hear anything, or it'll be very very little. I've tried my airbox, even with a Kn panel, and I almost oculdn't hear any noise.
  11. don't use windex - it eats paint. I don't use that additive crap. My car's not a daily driver, never gets driven in the rain, so it doesn't get dirty. My window's always clean, so i don' tneed to use the washer. All those things on the back say do not put it onto paintwork. think about it like this - imagine as the water evapourates, the stuff gets more and more concentrated. I don't know what they use, but if they say dont' put it on paint,t hen don't!
  12. I've spent a lot of time detailing my car before. I know some people think it'll just get dirty again quickly, but my car's not a daily driver. The 'wax' really helps to keep dirt off it. When I wash it, i just use soap with no pressure, and everything comes off. No rubbing needed (rubbing scratches).
  13. one of those catbacks. lol. bitta pipe is cheaper.
  14. THat's a lot of money. I'm running 3.25" straight pipe pretty much. Cheap and sounds wild - yes, it attracts the women.
  15. the spoiler has this foam/rubber piece that sits between it and the boot. It won't leak with this. If you're missing this, it's no biggy. Head down to clark rubber, trace it out, and make one. It'll be perfect. I've made one before - worked better than a 10 year old stock one. About the wiring it's been a long time since i checked it, but - the wire from the spoiler joins some other wiring on the boot (i think) and then it goes through this grommet on the right hand side of the boot, and then there's a plug there. Unbolt your stock spoiler (it'll have some clips holding it on too). From memory, you have to slide the spoiler to the back fo the boot for the clips to unhook (well it is on the sII anyways), then trace the spoiler wire and see where it goes, then change it.
  16. Awesome matey. I know the new struts from monroe are exxy, but when i was at the wreckers - pick and payless in black town, they charge $15-20 for a set of struts. There are plenty of newish cars there, with struts in good nic (not old busted struts from a shitter). If I knew how to weld, it would be easy as. Simple bracket made from a flat piece of metal trimmed to size, weld a ball onto it, bolt it to bonnet bracket. screw second ball into guard bolt hole, bobs your uncle
  17. tek, you didn't mention that the tank seal normally expands when you take it off, and it miht not go back on properply. The good thing about the tomei pumps is it comes with a new one of those. I can't remember who, i think it was either bass junky or abobob, did a test on the walbro, and it ran dangerously low on flow - they aimed the return line into a bucket.

    My R33

Very nice and clean car. I love it
  19. I'm not complaining! It runs like a 12 year old kid with a porno mag. Like I said to you above, I don't care about the isntall of it! that's not the purpose of this thread. I'm triyng to understadn why the bov was opening stock and isn't opening now! Obviously you didn't have to rotate it, because you got braided lines, whcih are flexible - the reason why I had to rotate, is to give the metal lines the best chance of fitting on wiht the least bending. I don't have a front mount. I have a sidemount. All the front mount does is amplifies the sound (echoes through the chamber) And before anyone says omg, get a front mount before you get a turbo - I have one, I just tested with a sidemount to see if the reversion was still there with the sidemount, and it was.
  20. Your pics don't prove anything. You can have a look at a pic of the turbo installed in my car. looks like it's standard. You can't tell that iv'e rotated the housing or that i've bent lines. My stock bov is fine. Tested the mechanism in it, and it's the same as before.
  21. really? I can't see you.
  22. That's what I was saying to paulr33 above - that was his theory that at 3k rpm, the highflow might only have 4 psi, whereas the stock turbo may have had 7 but this is what I said - did your stock turbo ever flutter? mine never did, whether releasing at 1 psi, or 20 psi.
  23. Lthlrb, that is not the point of the thread, please don't get sidetracked, I don't want to turn this into a flame war - this is about reversion, and bovs! But, me, r33god, and CEFIE and other people I know had to rotate the housing, lines had to be bent, because they didn't line up (no my stock lines weren't bent - when I saw that it didn't line up, I took the turbo off, put the stock one on, and they lined up perfectly). The catridge was about 1-2 cm from having the oil inlet facing upwards, and the water banjo holes facing striaght sideways. My turbo was installed by my friend who is a mechanic/fabricator/fitter turner, so he's not some backyard bogan who doesn't know what he's doing. for discussion of installation, pleae do so in nic's thread. so do you know why the bov isn't opening at low rpm, and causing chop chop, whereas it did open with the stock turbo?
  24. you on msn matey? My msn keeps signing in and out - mum took my computer, and i've got hers here. It's a pos. Also, it's the old msn, so if you're in appear offline mode, I can't reply. grrr, stupid pos comptuer
  25. also, the walbro flow rate is not as much as it says - their rating is not the same way of rating it as other pumps. The tomei flows HEAPS. like crazy amounts. I can't remember when i converted it, but it was somethign like 270 lph. A walbro is normally about $150. One of our fellow guys who's in the same situation as us - installed turbo, changing pump, getting tune in a bit, has just got a tomei pump. For $340, it's pricey, but it's a massive pump, it's brand new, and it fits straight in. Cheers
