    Putty Road

Cheers pie , Ohhh, forgot to mention. I was nearly taken out by a semi trailer on the way back. It was coming around a corner on my side of the road...I had to veer off onto the dirt to avoid it. Last shot:

    Putty Road

Left early in the morning, when most sane ppl were asleep. Damn it was cold!! Still managed to get my water temp up to 100degrees (and that's with a vented bonnet!).
  5. Thank God I went west yesterday, and early... Good old Putty Road.

    Putty Road

Well, I decided to go for an early morning dawn run down the Putty Road and take a few shots. This was extremely early in the morning though, hence the non-invite to others. Traffic was non existant except for a few semi's which were going unbelievably fast for their size...but they were still holding me up.

  9. lol, it just spools a few hundred rev's earlier which is noticeable enough when you're normally waiting till 4000rpm + for the car to be on boost.
  10. cause of this thread.... (and cause the lifters were making more noise after a long drive than they use to).
  11. Apart from the initial weird freaking noises, and that electrical "tick" noise on opening the throttle now, everything's good so far. As I mentioned before the turbo is spooling alot earlier. (Really noticeable as I don't have the stock turbo). Also the lifters aren't making as much noise as before. I don't know what the hell the tick noise is though. Seems to be coming from injector no.1.... or the timing belt cover. AND it only happens when the throttle is opened (one single tick) then it's normal. Oh, also the "tick" noise only happens when the car is in gear and the throttle is opened. Seriously, what the hell?
  12. Absolutely nada. Car went up, undid sump plug, oil went over fingers, drained oil...Took oil filter off, spilt a bit of oil, let drain... Replaced with new oil filter, replaced sump plug, filled with oil, checked level, over filled as per this thread, started, rev'd, CLACK! Then no clack. Now "tick" on initial opening of throttle. : Previous oil was Motul Turbolight 4100 10w40.
  13. Made the switch to Mobil 1 super syn 5w50 yesterday. I wouldn't say it went entirely smooth though... Made the change and started her up. The oil pressure rose nice and quick (different to Motul, and a good thing), lifter noise was less. BUT as soon as I touched the throttle there was a loud audible "CLACK". Touched the throttle again, and "CLACK!". WTF? Anyway, I let it idle for a bit, then I brought her up to 3000rpm, where the thing went, "CLACK! clack CLACK CLACK!" as the revs rose. I quickly let off. Did it again, and no noise. No initial CLACK. No clacking noise at all. What the hell happened? Took the car for a drive and all's good. The turbo spools a lot sooner, and there is less lifter noise. Still concerned about the initial noise though. Also, this morning in the carpark I noticed the same noise, but not so much of a "clack" but an electrical "tick" noise that only happens when the throttle is opened and the car is in gear, ie. touch the throttle when in gear and you hear a single "tick". Does anyone know what's going on? Is a lifter stuck or something?
  14. an old pic, updated
  15. spotted a freaking brand new SALEEN Mustang today, in an almost black-grey colour. 2 words... HOLY SHIT!
  16. Currently running a GT30r turbo on 16psi (light tune)... The fact I'm still running the stock gasket makes me worried, and hesitant to track the car. I've been given conflicting information from different sources. Some say it's perfectly safe to run 16psi on a stock RB25det w/ stock gasket, others say I'm stupid and asking for trouble. I don't know who to believe....
  17. cool... Hmmm I'm still confused about what weight to use. I'm guessing thicker is better (if the valves are making a little noise)... But 5w60 (recommended above) is thinner than 10w40 isn't it? All I can find is 5w50 Mobil 1. Would that be a better oil to use than the Motul 4100 10w40?
  18. I've seen this car in real life too. Cleanest car, cleanest engine bay I've ever seen in an S2 too! (I want the engine) ...and that's saying something! Great car, cheap at that price.
  19. Thanks CRSRB25DE Does anyone know how much approx the surfacing should cost?
  20. 10w50 thicker than 5w50?
  21. Hi guys, just wondering what's involved... Does the head need to be decked? Or does anything of the sort need to be done when changing the head gasket over and bolting the head back on? Thanks
  22. I believe it's a typical knee-jerk reaction by our "great" Premier Iemma to the current spate of "accidents" at school crossings. He needs to be seen as "doing something", and I'm guessing this is how. The general (read: STUPID) public will see this as being proactive. When in reality the recent accidents haven't involved young drivers, or modified vehicles. Quite the opposite actually...yet another example of misdirected use of resources...
  23. cause she's a breeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaiiiiick hooou-se...
  24. I was under the impression that 5W60 is thinner than 10W40?? e.g., Mobil 1 synthetic 5w40 (or whatever it is that kmart stock) is hella thin. I think I might change to 5W60.....
