Been having an annoying problem with the Stagea (RB25DET Neo) in that the Engine Warning Light comes on intermittently usually accompanied by engine retardation. The dealer's mechanic have been tyring to fix the problem for weeks now. It started after they replaced the coil packs and fixed a rough idling issue. Now I get the above warning light although car runs fine when the light isn't on. Stopping and restarting usually gets rid of the light and can proceed driving. The last attempt at fixing it was to replace the Cam Sensor and change the timing. Worked fine for a few days but it is now back and it is becoming very annoying. Searched the forums and found 1 post where it turned out to be loose wires. Hoping someone has some ideas of where to look next to solve the problem as not enjoying the drive at the moment. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Al

Now I get the above warning light although car runs fine when the light isn't on. Stopping and restarting usually gets rid of the light and can proceed driving. The last attempt at fixing it was to replace the Cam Sensor (is this the Crank Angle Sensor? - excuse my ignorance) and change the timing. Worked fine for a few days but it is now back and it is becoming very annoying. Took it to another workshop who advised it was Error Code 21 and said it was a strange problem and to try the Crank Angle Sensor as a first step. Searched the forums and found 1 post where it turned out to be loose wires. Hoping someone has some ideas of where to look next to solve the problem as not enjoying the drive at the moment. Plus thoughts on whether it is safe to drive (both mechanics have said it is). Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Al

Fuel Type & Servicing on Service Sticker
Red Sky II replied to Red Sky II's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Thanks for the replies guys. I always used 98RON in the R33 plus oil changes every 5,000kms so no need to change - just when I saw the service sticker (the Skyline didn't have that) wondered if it was any different. Yeah Brazen another Perth Stagea - how many does that make now? I believe you saw the car at Autowholesale in Vic Park - the silver Series II? Cheers -
Picked up my Stagea yesterday after trading in the Skyline and was going through it more today. It is a 1998 Series II stock standard model. Under the bonnet there is a service schedule sticker that states (amongst other things) that Fuel type is 95-96RON and oil changes, etc to be done every 10,000kms or 12 months. What is everyone's opinion on this as I thought it was better to use 98RON fuel and using less could be harmful plus oil change every 5,000kms or 6 months? Cheers, Al

Questions on Series 1 and Series 2
Red Sky II replied to Red Sky II's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Thanks Glenn I figured the manual version would be just too hard to get so will have to settle for an auto at this stage. Given I need the cash from my Skyline first, don't think I will be importing myself again and this time going through a dealer -
I am looking at getting rid of the Series II Skyline for a Stagea (more practical with young family) and was wondering what the differences between a Series 1 and Series 2 Stagea was? Have checked out mcnmawg excellent site with the Series II pics (good work by the way). Would the expected price differential be worth getting the S2 over the S1? Also any thoughts on whether it is worth trying to hunt down the elusive 5spd manual Stagea beast or are they really as rare as the Unicorn!!! Cheers, Al

Cooling System flush now engine cuts out
Red Sky II replied to Red Sky II's topic in General Maintenance
owned Haven't done the 100,000kms service yet as only done 77,000kms so far. Getting it serviced by an import specialist next time so will get them to check it all out then. -
Cooling System flush now engine cuts out
Red Sky II replied to Red Sky II's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks again for the suggestions and it gives some things to try. It hasn't really done it as much this week so maybe it was something that got wet or has just sorted itself out. It didn't like the 40 degree heat today though, nearly cut out a few times but didn't since the air-con was on. To answer questions, it mainly stalls when slowing down to a stop such as on the freeway, stopping at lights although has done it when turning into my driveway (can't turn the damn thing since power steering disappears !!!) -

Idle speed appears okay and the temperature gauge is normal. Will get the O2 sensor, etc checked out though Cheers, Al -
Cooling System flush now engine cuts out
Red Sky II replied to Red Sky II's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks for the replies and will try that on the weekend (hopefully it will be warm enough) Stopped the problem on the way to work though just by putting the air-con on to keep the idle revs higher (this was after 3 stalls) Cheers, Al -
Cooling System flush now engine cuts out
Red Sky II replied to Red Sky II's topic in General Maintenance
Yeah as in stalling and turns off without warning - the revs just die like I turned the key off It got better today only stalled once on the way to work and twice on the way home. I am thinking it could be something got wet when they flushed the radiator - would that cause the problem? I have the factor BOV -
I just had my accessory belts changed and the cooling system flushed and replaced coolant with Nissan Long Life Coolant. Now when I drive it the car cuts out at random times. Happened 4 times today, once as I was just travelling normally, again when in traffic (on the freeway so in 1st gear), again once stopped at lights after going down freeway and again when turning corner into driveway. So all different conditions. It used to cut out before when warm and stuck in freeway traffic but hadn't done that for a while. I can't see how flushing the system and changing coolant could cause this problem. Any ideas? Cheers, Al

Autech RS260 Sitting on a yard in Perth.
Red Sky II replied to a topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Drifft Whereabouts is the new yard on the Causeway? Does this mean they are moving out of Cannington? They still have the white RS4 on their website that I like. Cheers, Al -
Saw my first Stagea on the streets of Perth on Friday around 1:00pm - a silver one going down Colin Street in West Perth. Had a really deep exhaust note and sort of flashed by.

I too am looking at the same thing. Is the Hyperstimulator the same as the Hyperdrive (sold via Harvey Norman)? Website is www.hyperdrive.com.au Any links for the two mentioned?
-
I thought it was Stay-jee-ah as well (that's what it looks like) but HPI also pronounced it Stay-jah as well (possibly a bit more reliable than Speed ?)

anyone seen a r33 in perth that is this colour?
Red Sky II replied to noise's topic in Western Australia
I agree the pics of yours do appear brighter but the lighting conditions does have an impact on the colour. We will find out when yours finally arrives and can check the colour code - good to see another red example though just for something different. At least your red wheel nuts won't get stolen like the metal red valve caps I had did after about a month!!! Good luck with the purchase. Cheers, Al -

Yes it appears to be a factory colour with code of AR1 (from memory). You can get touch up paint from any Nissan dealer and unfortunately you will probably need it. Pics of my car (same colour as yours) at my web pagel Cheers, Al -

bOOSt, yeah the colour changes quite a bit in different light I must admit. tdawg watch out for fading though especially the rear plastic tail lights and spoiler - something about red cars that love fading When I first got the car and took it to work, one of the girls said to me "love that colour, I would do you in that colour car!!!!' - so good luck Have only seen 2 or 3 others around Perth the same colour Cheers, Al -
Will have to try the Quik Detailer - also recommended on the Dust Magnet packet. I have quick wax but its not the same thing. I picked mine up from Big W. You can get it at any auto shop or the discount chains like Big W or K-Mart. The oiled brush I have used before just seemed to move the dust around too but it is easier than washing and waxing all the time.
-
Saw one of these in the shops and it looks like an ordinary cloth but it says you use it to clean your car - mainly dust in between washing it. No water is used just dry against the paint. Suggests using Quik Detailier too so it says shiny. Any body used one, interested in thoughts and impressions. I have used those old was brushes (magic brush or something) and not too bad at getting rid of dust but you can't clean as such. Cheers, Al

Glad you got a good quote and I could help out. Their prices do seem pretty good and they know what they are insuring which makes the difference.
-
Yeah they are in WA (Perth CBD) and the number is 9220 8212 and speak to either Steve or Lorraine Walter. Some minor mods like pod, exhaust, mags plus some others like lowered suspension, strut braces, pedals. They don't mind mods as long as they are aware of them and require alarms / immobilisers (like they all do). Cheers, Al

I am with Torque Insurance which is a division of Lumleys. They will only insure drivers over 30 with clean records and do insure imports with or without modifications (as long as you tell them what they are). Recomended to me by my import broker and been with them for two years. Series II Skyline with some minor mods, insured for $26,000 just under $900. Speak to Steve Walter who knows his stuff. Cheers, Al

I have a similar problem and in fact have had it since I had the car 2 years ago. When I got the wheels aligned (4 wheel steer alignment) was told that there was "run out" in the front rims - ie slight buckling meaning they are not perfectly round. Mine does it just above 100kmh but then disappears above 110, also none at lower speeds. They tried aligning it for ages but couldn't do any more. Solution they tell me is to get wheels repaired or replaced. I just live it with now Cheers, Al
