I'd budget $10k and you'll have your low second streetable R33. There was a very recent post (last week) about some guy asking the exact same question. I'll see if I can track it down. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...topic=93259&hl= and http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...topic=94084&hl= Good luck and have fun

I Should Be Getting A Skyline Soon....
Dee 33 replied to BigWill's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
There's a hell of a lot more room than there is in a 200sx, speaking from experience No probs with the cops here. Mine is stock looking with skirts and front bar. Have a fmic too but still no probs. I'd get raped if they ever checked under the bonnet though -
Suggestions And Opinions Wanted
Dee 33 replied to 2BLAK's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Import one that's already been heavily modified and tuned. The only thing you have to worry about then is the octane of the fuel you will be using. -
Nothing comes to mind. You won't be having gearbox problems unless you buy a screwed one or you're pushing 300+rwkw of power and being nasty to the box. The one weakness I know of with R33's is the standard turbo. Mine blew. I got a bigger one. Problem solved Overall, a good condition R33 won't give you problems.

Damage Caused By Pothole - Legal Options?
Dee 33 replied to AzzurrA's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Nice to know things like this tend to work out in the end -
You have to admit, he picked a pretty damn good colour

If you get a workshop to do all the work it will cost you $10k to get 250rwkw. Turbo - $2k + $500 (new lines, installation) ECU - $1k + $500 (tuning) Cooler - $1k + $300 (install) Injectors - $1k + $300 (install) Exhaust - $1500 (decent full exhaust from turbo) Fuel Pump - $400 (including install) New Bov - $300 (decent one) Air filter - $300 (decent one with CAI and downpipe to turbo + install) Clutch - $1k (decent one) = $10,100 for the above. This is with reasonable good estimations on prices for reasonable good parts. That's with a 2k turbo. Make this a GT-RS and you're up for more. This is using stock manifold and an internally gated turbo. Use a PFC and you'll be up for an AFM as well. Heading for 300rwkw add cams onto that price and start looking at a high mount manifold and externally gated turbo. Hope you have mates. Otherwise there's no way you're getting 350rwkw without at least another $10k.

What horsepower is it rated at? Either way, with any mid to high turbo upgrade (450hp+) you're going to need injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, exhaust and computer at a minimum. After that you're looking at cams and internals if you plan to run the turbo to it's potential.

R33 Owner Looking Into Performance Upgrades, Help!
Dee 33 replied to R33BaiBai's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Here's a mod list. 3inch exhaust from turbo with hi-flow cat. then air filter upgrade (hi-flow panel in existing box or pod with cold air box) then front mount intercooler then boost (bleed valves are fine and under $100) then powerfc - at this stage you'll safely be able to run around 12psi and get 200rwkw then fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator to support... then bigger turbo (HKS GT-RS are good if you plan for around 240rwkw) - at this stage you'll be at around 240rwkw with your injectors at the limit That's what you'll need to hit both 200rwkw and then 240rwkw. If you want more than this you'll need to upgrade your injectors and get a bigger turbo. GT30's are popular and should be able to take you to 300rwkw with cams. Don't assume I'm talking crap cause this is my exact setup except I have a Wolf3D, not a PowerFC, and an IPS460, not a GT-RS -
Expect immediate power loss if they're both stock as not only will you be competing with a smaller engine, you'll also have a heavier (than 32 gts-t) car and the extra loss through the 4WD drivetrain. If you're planning to mod the car (to a reasonable level) then the lower power can be overcome but if you're leaving them stock I'd either keep the R33 or get the R32 Gts-t as with these levels of power (under 300bhp) the 4WD will only really be an advantage in the wet.

Lucky mate. Very lucky about the warranty. The first thing anyone who imports a car should do is change the timing belt. As we all know, most cars are wound back so even though your car might say 50,000km for all you know it could have done 150,000km and be well due for a timing belt change. It's really not worth the risk.

Glad I read this thread. I was on there today and was considering purchasing a rear bar, wing and bonnet in the near future. Maybe I should reconsider...

I'd be very suss about that fuel economy level. Take a look at what I have. Ive used your template as we have similar mods. List of Upgrades: 1) T04e 460hp Turbo 2) Wolf3Dv4 3) Walbro fuel pump 4) Stock Injectors 5) Fuel Pressure Regulator Malpassi 6) No AFM (Wolf Map Sensor) 7) 240rwkw If I drain the tank to pretty much empty I'll get 400km a tank. However, this is quite conservative driving.

Clutch. When Did Yours Give Out?
Dee 33 replied to R33_Series2Lover's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
My car had done almost 120,000km (stock) when I noticed the clutch wasn't grabbing too well. It wouldn't slip in 4th or 5th but hard changes wouldn't grab. I then bumped it up to 240rwkw. Subsequently, the day I picked it up not only was the clutch unable to hold even in 3rd, but it was also raining so I had a shithouse drive home in my newly modified toy. Then to make things even worse, by the time I got back from the Gold Coast to Brisbane the clutch died completely (couldn't even move in first) 6km from home and I had to get it towed. It was a crap night, I'll tell ya that! Spent $1300 on a heavy duty ceramic single plate. Was a bit rough at first but now it's worn in and I'm used to it it works perfectly. No probs. Grabs very hard as well. Chirping into 3rd is no problem at all. Been going solid for a few months now. Next time I'll probably go heavy duty organic though considering I don't race the car. Ceramic = overkill for a pure daily driver. -
R33 Gtst Skyline Fuel Usage
Dee 33 replied to great one's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Power = petrol regardless of the car. -
A Supra bashing thread? Who'da thought... I love em.
-
True. But he is comparing the RB25 to the 2JZ, thus the reason there are probably lots of R33 Gts-t'ers in here including myself. Tell me though, how does the comfort and interior of an RZ Supra compare to the R32?
-
^^^ Shit yeh, that's the way to think. There are far worse (financially) things to spend your hard earned cash on. Anyone heard of TRAVEL? Heaps of young people under 25 love to go overseas and spend $10k on a 3 month trip to Europe etc. Well I'll spend my $10k on mods and I'm 100% sure with myself that this is a better way to spend my money. You're not meant to get money back when you're paying for something to enjoy. You get nothing back from buying a new computer, you get nothing back from buying an xbox or games, you get nothing back from travelling or going on a holiday so look at modding your car this way. You're not investing, you're having fun with your money.

I chose the R33. Sometimes I think I would have been better of with a 180sx, sometimes I don't. It all depends on what you want most out of a car. The R33 is more comfortable, more stable on the road, handles high speeds better (200+km/h) and sounds a hell of a lot better. The 180 is lighter and thus better for fanging around corners. It also doesn't need as much power due to the weight. When I'm going for a run up the mountains I wish I had have bought a 180sx. When I'm flying around the corners on my country street I wish I had a 180sx. But when I'm driving along the highway with a couple of mates in the back the R33 wins hands down. When I'm taking people for rides or going on a cruise the R33 wins. It's all about what you want out of the car. In terms of a balance of performance, quality and value they're both pretty much equal overall being damn good cars. Just pick the one that most suits your purpose.

How Much Shud I Pay For This....?
Dee 33 replied to goeyz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Well I wasn't meaning to dis the car, just saying that as far as R33's go it's at the very very bottom of the barrel. If it's in good condition and you get it for 10k'ish I'd say you've done well. You can do a lot worse for that amount of money. Chances are it hasn't been thrashed either, although this is just an assumption. -
It could be the way your boost controller is set up. When I picked my car up after a shitload of work and money it would only boost to about 9 psi then creep up to 14 as the revs approaches 6.5k. I then found out that for some crazy reason my bleed valve was completely shut. Opened it up and all better

I have a Mongoose alarm with an Apexi turbo timer. They work together

Answer Qik Pls! What's This R33 Worth? + Airbag Q
Dee 33 replied to sl33py's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Sounds like a very reasonable car. Depending on condition, if you take into account the rims, clutch, alarm and exhaust that's several thousand worth of mods. I'd probably pay 16-18k depending on body/interior condition. -
Sucks how it comes straight back though. I have one new light and one yellow one so it's kinda lame...
