  1. I had the Japanese Formula SAE team and manager go over my old man’s SS ute with blue leather trim. They loved it. Liked the sound, and the look because it was different. Maybe one of those guys took one back with them?? HAHA. Many guys here driven brand new HSV’s, SS etc? There is a reason for why they are so popular.
  2. Cross ply tyres are cheating? Where do you draw the line? Launch control, transbrakes, NOS, delay boxes, air shifts, tubs…… Sounds like making up the rules to suit your self. At the end of the day you can race two ways. For all out ET. Or you race in a bracket with rules. For bracket racers, consistency wins meets. Not all out ET. Because you race one way, and another person races another, does not make the other a cheat. But if your not racing competition you might as well go as fast as possible. Setting goals for yourself on restrictions you set for yourself is pointless.
  3. If you want to run radials and know that you wont run a Qtr as fast, then that’s up to you. Don’t complain about it and make excuses about “I run radials etc.” At the end of the day, it’s the ET that counts. How you get it is up to you.
  4. I dont call ET streets a street tyre. If a cop pulled you over with them on, try and expalin them to him! Plus I doubt they would be any good in the wet. What about the Sportsman Pro's? 1.56 60ft with an 8" wide sportsman pro. 460hp at flywheel. Picks up the front left on take off. Not a skyline, but standard setup RWD (no four-link, tubs etc) Plenty of tread (ugly looking read though), and pretty good in the wet.
  5. "Ford have at least utilised overhead cams / 4 valve technology, an intercooler..." Now that is a good response to the technologically advanced debate. Nothing wrong with pushrods though....but that is for another time. The new HFV6 holden is producing has twin turbo capability. Wont happen (if ever) here for a long time, but Alfa Romeo produced a twin turbo variant. Now that motor is quite advacned.
  6. There definitely won’t be a turbo commodore for a long time. Cars are getting bigger. Not just local cars. Mid sized cars these days are family car size of the early 80’s. (New vectra is same size as early model commodore). Nissan nearly went bankrupt producing the GTR? Why is that? Not economically viable. Large volume production lines producing limited run vehicles is financially inefficient. Nissan is a people’s company? What rubbish. Which car company isn’t? How is ford breaking new ground? By putting a forced induction motor into their falcon? Holden have been doing it for years.
  7. The early EWP had some reliability problems. I don’t know what they are like these days. (everybody that got them didn’t use them again after they died). Not sure what the RB motors need in terms of CFM flow, but the Davies crag EWP could not pump enough cfm for a Holden V8. It pumped nowhere near as much as a belt driven pump. No worries if it’s a drag car only, but if it’s a streeter……
  8. Ford and Holden don’t make performance cars. Why? Because there is no market. That’s why they are both profitable brands. They cater to the markets needs. The market is saturated with cheap performance cars (see WRX). Why bother trying to compete when they are market leaders in their own field? Local manufacturers don’t need to build performance cars to please a group of people that wouldn’t buy and couldn’t afford to buy them. The performance range of both of them produce cars fast enough as it is. If they were to bring out an absolute monster, people would outrage over possible deaths/dangers etc. And it is still not financially viable. Holden’s HRT 427 had a purchase price of 200K, but was still not financially viable….and deposits were put down on all that were going to be made! I still don’t understand how power/litre makes a motor more technologically advanced. It might be a factor, but it is not the whole comparison.
  9. The knore post above sounds more close minded than a Holden bogan. If its not a Nissan its not a car right? And I still don’t know how a motor with 15 years of aftermarket development and xx millions dollars spent on aftermarket GFB, is more technologically advance because it makes more kw/l than a ford 6 from factory. When we aren’t even comparing cars from the factory anyway! Eddie Tassone’s VH makes 246 hp/l. Is his motor more technologically advanced than an RBxx. I think not. To say one is more advanced than another based purely on power out put is not valid.
  10. People (after market tuners) have only had the engine to play with/modify for 12 months. Like you said, RB26 came out in 89. Many more years of aftermarket tuning have gone into it. How much off the shelf gear can you buy for a RB26 compared to a ford turbo motor? Combinations are well documented for rb26’s you know what works and what doesn’t. With the fords, its never been done before. Nice effort I think. Im not bagging the rb26, just pointing out that this guys work is a great effort.
  11. It will be interesting to see how long modified XR6T motors last for. If the motors last “forever” then good luck to them making big power. All of a sudden aussie car bashing goes quiet because of a turbo…….

Development takes time and dollars. Because a motor makes xx hp/ci, doesn’t make it more technologically advanced than another. Otherwise a 350 chev would be one of the most advanced motors when it comes to hp/ci. Upset at 10.9 from 405rwkw? Who cares how much power he made. It’s a brand new ute and it ran 10.9. Bloody good effort.
  13. Monaros going to the UK has been confirmed for ages. Who cares what the car is badged as? As for Vauxhall and Holden being the same is like saying Ford and Jag are the same. Owned by the same overall company but separate entities. I hate home grown car bagging! Immature, unfounded comments on locally produced product is unwarranted. Local manufactures producing good reasonable quality affordable cars is good for the public and good for the country in terms of export. (off topic I know). Don’t get excited, the car wont come here.

Might get flamed for this example, but from the words of 2003 Hp Heros Champ mouth when asked what time it would run with 1300+ hp at the treads: Wouldnt race it in this tune. It would blow up half track." Forget the taxi/commndore comebacks. At the end of the day big HP doesnt mean shit!
  15. They are only 15's but what about Mickey Thompson ET street's. Different car, but a flat 11 sec torana picks up the front left wheel with these on the back.
  16. . Its easy to say my car has xx hp. “I just cant get traction that’s why I run mid 13’s”. My car has 1000hp, it just looses 600 of it through drivetrain losses.
  17. Where are all these 1000hp skylines when it comes to summernats and other type shows? Obviously not at the drags either. I don’t care what motor/block it is. If its built to put out 1000hp it aint going to last long. 20k kms if you are lucky.
  18. Obviously you don’t want to lose, but you have to give respect where it’s due. Any car that has obviously had some major work done to it to make it quick gets my vote. Be it a taxi, ricer, moke etc.
  19. Any metal fabrication place will make any design you take to them (as long as its possible) You can even specify material selection and baffle design (if you want to). My catch can has no internal baffles from the metal fab place, had two weld bungs welded on, and a fitting for a small filter to attach to, and a bracket to attach it. All up it cost $120. And the best thing is its custom and only one like it.
  20. Not every falcomm driver is a one eyed bogan. Just like not every skyline owner is a one eyed ricer. You get a blend across both. But I do agree that there is nothing better than two people in two completely different cars respecting each other’s time and effort that has gone into it. Not just bagging it due to being a Hiroshima screamer or vegemite bogan taxi.
  21. It only takes a one or two idiots to spoil it for the rest. All of a sudden a stereotype will evolve. Look at commodore drivers. THey are not all bogan hoons, but a lot of bogan hoons drive them and spoil it for the sensible ones. Commodore drivers have a stereotype of being bogan hoon, and skylines drivers have a stereotype of being ricer hoons. A fact both have to live with.
  22. Competition drag racing involves more than just timing from crossing the beams at the start, to getting to the finish line. Consistancy, reaction time etc are all just as important as ET. Especially in dial your own racing. Where RT and consistancy is pretty much everything. Getting a bit of topic.............
  23. So what is the change wanted? Defect more holdens to even it out? Its not just japanese imports that get defected. Its all modified cars. And generalising like the writer has, makes the letter look unprofessional and just plain immature.

Jetpilot, you promote this product by saying that "It also got Mick Atholwood and Roy Smith across the finish line of the 2000 Australian Drag Racing Championship final... with no oil in the engine... yet still managed to win with a time of 5.7sec!!! But you also quote that it takes a few hundred kms to work. Now these motors do one maybe two runs before being pulled down and rebuilt. So are you saying that in this special case that the roil oil worked within the time the first start up and the burnout, or once the oil is added to the motor its properties are there for good? Plus to lose all the engine oil there must have been a problem (major) and a major oil down. Either way, the car wouldnt have run that fast. Let alone the motor holding togethor. Forgive my bluntness.
