Just got my EPA letter in the mail... BUT IT WAS FROM 09/01/05, NOT THE NIGHT I GOT DONE ON DANDENONG RD. I was observed by an officer on Canturbury Rd. @ 7.35pm. The vehicle was considered to be excessivly noisy or to have a faulty exhaust system, I only need to get the DB. test done and send it into the EPA. I can use the same test results to pass this request and get one of my DEFECT items taken care of at the same time. Edit: I remember this night like it was yesterday, I was turning off Canturbury Rd. into Boronia Rd. Cop pulled up beside (passenger side) me and had a good gork at the car. I pulled away very slow and he merged into my lane then done a U-Turn at next exit... he did not even have his window down to observe noise! What The! How can you be observed using a noisy vehicle when his window was never open... This is harrasment, not on a personal scale but harrasment never the less.

As a car club and I think 99% of us agree that the current situation regarding EPA/POLICE and SOME of the rules and logic behind them is an issue that no politician or person from the general public will rise. As a car club and pretty much the only people in the population that give a shit about the laws as they mostly effect us and go unnoticed by the general population of Ford/Holden motor users. We should be the individuals/club(s) that actually do something about them instead of crying and sobbing cos we got done (I'm guilty of this) It may not be a lobby or protest on the steps of parliament house (that would look good though...imagine 100's of SKYLINES or just imports blocking off Spring Street )But we should a least do something. I think SAU representing all Skyline owners (and I think the club as a whole would have some strong feelings toward the current tight-arse rules and regulations that sometimes make no sense at all) should officially open up a communication channel with parliament or local council to get some of our ideas just looked over. With a good argument, proper logic and backing of a community (even small, as we are) maybe we could get some of the pointless laws tweaked or changed. I have a dream. That Imports cars Local cars Can use the same roads and be treated as equals.

Come on boys... I see cracks forming in our GREAT FORUM and COMMUNITY. No need to get narky... Good progress in forum / events and members section have been made since I joined only 8 months ago, but coming from someone who is "new" also... it can be hard to get involved and does take that extra effort. If it was not for the HUGE ammount of time I spent on the forums B4 my car arrived and all the GREAT help I received (I owe you guys heaps) I think after attending my first club meeting I would have also left. I think I made an extra effort to talk to people as I remember walking into the room at the Whithorse and not a single person said hello, hi, or what are you doing hear. It's enough to send a person straight out the door. Same thing happened the next meeting... I now know a few of you and I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I can see how a paid member and we have ALOT may be discouraged from arttending and putting up there hand to help the club. We have XXX members we get XX attending meetings and group x and group x talking at the meetings... thats the way I see it anyways. Please don't get me wrong I love the SAU group, but dont get on this guys case because he is upset.

Did you manage to get a word in to the officer you met with about DEFECTING people that attend or as they leave.... and B4 anyone starts saying "well if you drive an illegally modded car you deserve it" I know for a fact that alot of you have aftermarket computers / non padded centre steering wheels (DEFECTABLE) and what not in your cars. Anyways by the time this event kicks off I will be 100% legal ;-). I bought a padded centre yesterday (may I say it's farken hard as a rock!) Sorry to be a stick in the mud but just being extra parinoid.

I thought that they can be placed anywhere but need to be below the "eyeline" ... this could be different depending on how tall you are???

Hope it does take 6 months... this targeting is a load shit. I am seriously considering selling my GTR and laying low B4 getting a R34 @ the end of the year. So once I get my RWC re-issued I THINK my BABY is going on the market. No problem to get the official info posted up. It's been quite an exercise, I have been plesently suprised at the authorities willingness to help me out in whatever way possible... why the 2 x cops that pulled me over did not have the same willingness to be fair???

I rang the Policy & Education department of the VIC TMU (where the officers get trained to become a TMU officer) and I have the official ruling on steering wheels. RULE: If your car is pre 1995 it can be fitted with an aftermarket wheel but must exceed 330mm 1st clause: This wheel must also be padded or depressed if original wheel design had such qualities. This is obviously not word for word but you get the drift. So looks like I will need to spend about $300 to get a padded centre aftermarket wheel. Even though the cop I spoke to had issues with the clause and its logic. Also, on my list it has ride height @ 100mm minimum (this is fine as I have already checked) but talking to officer he asked what measurement the TMU officer that booked me got... He did not measure anything... that's a big no-no on behalf of the cop. I could in theory get that requirement taken off the list but since I will pass anyways, what’s the point. I also rang the EPA today and got some official advice on the intercooler/pod issue. Guy advised that if I can convince the RWC person that my FMIC is the same size as original than it should be fine, even if aftermarket. Does anyone know the correct specks on the R32 GTR FMIC to measure against my TRUST unit... also piping needs to be same size? Also, Did anyone manage to listen to 774 ABC Radio this morning? I rang and used the free legal advice line about my "little" issue... talked to the guy about my wheel and advised that I take it back to original engineer and get papers to certify ADR compliance. CBF'ed and I bet he would tell me to get lost anyways.

T78: This ain't my thread... but no. I also spoke another TMU officer from another station yesterday and I was given alot of usful information. Most interesting was the steering wheel - no one I called could give me a 100% right answer. I was told to ring the Policy & Education / Study line (where the TMU cops learn) I should get a proper ruling. I'm quietly confident that my wheel should be OK since my car was not fitted standard with an airbag. I would take my aftermarket anyday over the standard R32 wheel (that is one ugly and not so safe wheel) Today I'm geting info from EPA about FMIC/PODS. Info from Police about steering wheel. Booking my DB. test at Daalders Best price tyres I have found so far (z-rated) Falken $260each Nakanag $200each Hankook $245

Thats Bullshit! Both times (last Thursday and Friday) I got pulled over I was doing nothing wrong. On Friday when I got DEFECTED I was doing 65km in a 70km zone. Cop was looking down radar and as soon as I drove past he droped the radar and chased me for what? Driving a GTR? I think so! even the ppl @ VicRoads today were sorry for me. Fair enough if I was doing stupid shit like speeding or what not. Rang the cop station also and told of my story and to get some advice, even the copper said bad luck but what do you expect driving a skyline...? They are out to get you.

Aftermarket IC but same size??? Anyways, I just took a walk to VIC ROADS and spoke to them about my current position and to get my licence renewed. I have there total support in getting my car back on the road. They too do not understand why : A: you can sell a non padded steering wheel yet they are illegal??? B: Since my car was engineered only 3.5 months ago why it is DEFECTIVE now My advice was to get the DB test for exhaust and send to EPA. Go to the same place that issued the RWC and get it re-issued...only thing that is not so good was they need to inspect ride height - otherwise they said I would not have been required to bring the car in for an inspection. I think VIC ROADS or some people @ VIC ROADS are also struggling to get the logic of DEFECTING a perfectly safe car on these stupid rules (GO AFTER THE CARS THAT ARE A DANGER TO ROAD USERS) maybee if they were concentrating on that our weekend raod toll (8) would have been lower (no Skylines on the news this weekend) I tried to call EPA motor division... guess what? Just had a good look on the infringment notice. Sec. 7 "If this notice is not cleared by 19/02/05 the vehicle's registration may be suspended from that date" - does that mean I get a month to fix all items on list? I recall the policeman saying it all needed to be done in 7 days? Can anyone confirm for me if I can have POD filters since the GTR came with FMIC standard?
