    Union Tradies

It is illegal in vic to refuse a non union person work on a construction... How may do you see though on a unionised site???? ZERO!!!! If they see a non signed up tradesman on site they all pick up their handbags and sit in the shed until the non union worker is refused work. Deaths in the construction industy has ZERO to do with what we have been talking about... I have just completed a 6 day OH&S course, and guess what, the union wasnt mentioned.. but 'Work Safe' was a hell of a lot.. Unions do stuff all but use safety as ammo to cost builders money... That is the only reason they make the place safer, because they wont even let workers go to the toliet without a 'spotter' or someone waiting at the toilet seat to wipe them after they are finished because if the arse whipper wasnt there the worker might 'strain' his back! If someone were to die on my building site i will be the one taken to court, not the union... where is the union now then thousands of people have lost their jobs becuase the cost of construction is too high?? Its all starting to backfire, i have companies begging me for work, and there is nothing i can to about it, i look after the people that have looked after me. Ex shop stupids, have asked me for work... i say... incorrect! find another shoulder to cry on, they had their fun screwing the builder to try and 'slow' the job down to keep their memebers employed for longer. I have no simpathy for them now that they are home scratching their nuts... Stiff....

if your implying that we have far less deaths in Victoria, i would have to agree but i dont think that is what we are all upset about.. I am the first one to agree that the union makes the work site a safer place for its memebers, but i think that everyone here is pissed about the crap that goes on behind it all, a lot of the time safety is used as a threat to shut the job down.. or get a 'bbq' for the 'brothers' because they have worked so hard and need a free feed and half a day off with pay to wind into the 2 weeks off over easter... u know exactly what i am talking about... and when the bbq is given which cost the builder thousands on the bigger jobs, the next week they shut the job down! it has happened time and time again...

oh so true!!!! I could give you hundreds of examples...... i see it every day, at it shits me to tears!! I love the example of the lift driver hahahahaha even in a public place they require a lift driver, so the general public are using the lifts as usual but the big tough tradies cant push a button to got to up the building???!!!! and they are not alowed to walk more than 4 flights of stairs.... it goes on and on and on.... i fight unions every day about these issues, they are your best friend one day and you get stabbed in the bacvk the next, its just the way it is in Vic...

    Union Tradies

Exactly, I am starting to get all subbys ringing me looking for work, the construction industry is very slow at the moment for the bigger builders.. We are flat out at the moment but only because of the work we do, ie. no more apartments!!! Things are getting pretty desperate with a lot of trades... Plenty of tradies i know hat lost their jobs.. its not good.. Stocks14; i know what you mean, as much money as the unions have cost me over the years there is NO comparisson between the safety of the Union jobs and the general housing industry. I personally work with the Unions, ETU, CFMEU, FEDFA, CEPU etc etc.. if you work with them, yes they will cost more money but the last thing i want is to have someone lose their life becuase i 'forgot' to do something orhad the attitude 'she'll be right mate'. What gets me is people that do traffic management... they basically make as much money as a person with a trade and they do NOTHING all day but stand on the side of the road with a 'stop / go' stick... it is wrong! You are so right about the slack labourers that do stuff all during the day that you cannot sack that take home 80 grand... people dont believe me when i tell them, but it happens alright!!! even the peggy who cleans the toilets and lunch sheds take home amazing pay...
  14. i had 265's on my 18x8 and they were fine...

there should ne no exposure to asbestos, you dont get paid 'danger' money, if its not safe then you shouldnt work... end of story. you wouldnt be working on a union site and have probelms with asbestos, let me assure you. That is all taken care of before you should even be in the area, and if you are the one doing electrical works in an asbestos area then it would be done under asbestos conditions and yet again you would be paid another fee... 40 hours per week??? so your doing ovetime are you?? i do agree with the fact that you are exposed to more hazards than an 'office' worker but if it wasnt safe then your etu rep should not let you be working in that area..

with no overtime, i.e 7am - 3.30pm monday to friday you should be taking home around $900ish plus you get HEAPS of RDO's, then when you ad in the saturday which is mainly double time, tradies start taking home quite a good wage. They also get: site allowance height allowance travel allowance overtime and 1.5 and double time etc etc.. Bloody good deal if you ask me!

    Union Tradies

It shouldnt be to hard at 21, I deal with union trades every day and see apprentices of various ages. It isnt as easy at 21 rather than 17 or 18 but the larger union companies dont seem to mind as much as the smaller ones.
  20. paul, I noticed a huge improvement with the pineapple kit... my car comes on boost hard with 18psi low in the rev range and stock suspension and very rarely get wheelspin since installing them alone.. Before the pineapples it used to spin 2nd like robo's every time and thats with semi slicks good luck
