People that say "I've got not traction"
slip replied to slip's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Something i forgot, and probably what a big problem for you is, is SELF control. Holding yourself back and slowly feeding the throttle on through 1st is something that is very hard to make yourself do. Just for an example, ive got an open diff, and on the skidpan (bugger all traction) i put down the fastest time, quicker than all the lsd cars. self control to have throttle control -
or similar. Fair enough if youve got too much neg camber at the back, or crap tyres, but I hear this too often from people with not particularly powerful cars (still with stock turbo) and no apparent rear end issues. Rubbish, youve got traction. What you haven't got is throttle control. Dry road...lots of traction, hell even a wet road (good surface) isnt too bad. Just because you cant hammer off the line or out of a corner in a lower gear with your foot buried, does not mean theres a lack of traction. Ride a motorbike, and you will have an appreciation of this. Picture a steep uphill, predominantly clay, with a bit of grass rocks and logs, in the rain. Now you have to use a 135 or so section rear tyre to punt yourself up it. Yep, theres f*ck all traction available. (extreme example) Take Revhead coming out of a corner on his stock roadbike, in the dry, and trying to do it fast. He's going to be using all his concentration, and as precise as possible throttle control to do it. Will he complain? Nope. He will marvel at his bikes power and how hard it is to put it all down through a tiny contact patch without sending himself over the bars. For most riders, lighting up that rear tyre while leant over is an almost instant crash sentence. What I'm trying to say is that its not a lack of traction, its a lack of throttle control. And if we have better throttle control then we are better, faster, and safer; drifters, grip drivers, and drag racers. this isnt an attack on anyone, just something that i think needs to be said. in a car you can easily catch a slide, but on a bike, its very different.

well you were....... twice, if i remember correctly. (we wont include 2'5th gear)

HA! Make it a race throught the mountains in the rain and ill see what i can do. ooooooooh track day in the rain. what a top idea. (seriously) although, i think funds will prevent me from punting the car. it MIGHT happen though. clutch will only be able to take 2 launches i think. you should feel this thing, its quite sad. i dont think a 16 is anything to be excited about.

good thing about it is that i dont have to worry if im going to hammer through some dirt and holes....bah. i do believe i had the quickest time at the end of the day too.... :)

ray, course you can be in the club ya clown. Its a skyline isnt it. wait till you see my sh*tbox R31, probably the dodgiest car in the whole club, but its not about your car (thank god)
-
na skyline pulling a 10? no bloody way!

I have to say 33 depending on how much it is. its got fmic and coilovers, its gonna be decent. as much as i dont really like the 33's (looks/weight) thats the choice id take.

count me in for the cruise with fenn la la and nismochoppedbyr32's... oh i mean nismogirl. boxcar racer, whats this "my car don't go that fast" crap? the straight line speed of your car has nothing to do with its capacity to scare people on mountains. (ask fenn, mic and shell)

Guys, i think you are much better off going to a kart track in brissy. Yeah the big kart track is fun, but F*CK its SLOW! You can get some slides happening, but with the lawnmower pull start jobbies they use, you go nowhere fast. Its REALLY good in the rain though....slicks. i strongly recomment some fast brissy karts, archerfield have some i think, a ring around would be a good idea. (been on big kart track many times)

i know they're awesome zero i sold one to buy the skyline /me points at revhead and laughs at the man unable to beat an r31.

Single hex sockets/spanners are great when you're up against a c*nt of a bolt. If its going to break, youll probably be able to feel it, when you get to this stage you might be a bit screwed. use leverage but make sure the tool is still on the head realy good.

There is ONLY ONE import owner with a manual who doesn't worry me, and he's rarely on here. You lot are mad! Revving to 4000rpm all the time during normal driving! THEN you complain about fuel consumption... whyyyyyy. I think its because you are all so isolated and insulated from whats going on. Unless gearing or conditions dictate otherwise, i shift at around 2000rpm now. Hot or cold. I used to go up to 3000rpm sometimes if i was in a bit of a hurry, to punch up a hill or something, but now im really povo (fuel), and plus, if im not going hard, its not fun anyway, just gonna wear the engine more. funny thing is, the one import driver i mentioned has a modified Vspec. Cuts sick on track days though. This is a pet peeve of mine, if you hadn't guessed. P.S. Used to own a 20,000rpm roadbike, at 6000rpm it was still doughy as poop.

mre they are 16's i think. replacing 16's with 16's is a bit crazy no?

i like the arvo bbq / turn into a piss up idea. that way its continuous. if we have bbq, end, go for a drive, come back to start a piss up, mer...doesnt have the flow of the bbq/piss up. plus we can drink piss during the bbq. oh no, i have to leave the gf at home.... (she hates mountains to mad mtn run people) boxcar, just pm people your address maybe? ill try and be there for sure. birty - might go with you big fella. (me = devils advocate)

actually, luke (LA LA) is a bit of a girl. takes him about 3hrs to drink a vodka and orange. ( luke)
