Mine's that bad, i can hear it at idle! But other than that, it felt wrong when driving it as i said so i took it home and played with throttle and listened. Then took to turbo shop for second opinion who tells me my turbo is a "time bomb".
-
vendetta, i had a somewhat similar experience with mine, seem to be lagging, waiting for an invitation to boost, then it would come on. I popped my bonnet and had a listen and my turbo bearings are on their way out, make a delightful crunching noise when spinning. Noise is definitely turbo as I can hear it when i put a screwdriver to the turbo (put screwdriver on cover then ear on screwdriver to listen). I hope for your sake that the turbo isn't the problem as it is with mine....
-
you got front mount? heat soak? maybe with more boost it just pushes the hot air through quicker and therefore still spools up relatively quick. 10psi isn't much boost to be running through an HKS turbo.

Okay R33NT, just rang GCG again (I'm going to avoid the Caps for that word) and you are partially right but a little misguided. There are still two types of highflows, the Stage 1 and 2 - as i have directed you to in my previous posts, making all my posts completely valid and useful, also in relation to my gcg website page perfectly informative - however, they aren't offering the Stage 2 to people unless they have at least the following mods: larger FMIC upgraded fuel pump and injectors Full exhaust (unsure if this includes manifold - didn't ask) ECU CAI also preferrable is some head work They said that they experienced some minor surging with the stage 2 before which is why they are checking that you have those items listed above before they will sell/recommend it to you. Therefore, if you read the other posts about the STAGE 1 TURBO, you will still be getting accurate information and results about the turbo YOU are looking at as this HASN'T CHANGED. Also, they don't offer the stage 2 at all to people with RB20s, only RB25s. Hope that helps clear the air a bit in relation to that. PHaT Mr30: Highflowing in terms of GCG's work performed retains your original housing but having them machined out to fit slightly bigger steel wheels. They also change the original ball bearing pack for their own dual ceramic ball bearing pack (which can be ordered as a spare part should they ever break). This means that they are able to be bolted back into the original spot without any problems.

As a matter of fact, I spoke to GCG personally (as i said in my first post, i'm considering one myself) just on Monday who informed me that there were still two stages of highflow but recommended the 450HP one to me because the 500HP job you start to need more support system upgrades such as injectors and ECU. You seem to be the only one on here who has been told that there is only one type of upgrade. Lepperfish expresses his use of the stage 1 (clearly suggesting that there is a stage 2) and he gets praise, while this whole time I've been polite and suggesting you do a search, given you feedback of things I've read and posted links but all you seem to do is give me attitude. Grow up.
-
Unsure as to what you're referring.....according to http://www.gcg.com.au/catalogue/Turbo%20Ki...etrol/tk_p.html There are still the two stages of the GCG highflow for the R32 + R33. Note that prices have been updated from the "old" highflow ratings of $2,250 + $2,450 for the 450 and 500 respectively.
-
oh the joys of attitude....wanna DEFINE recent for me? last week, last 2 weeks, last month, last 3 months???? - otherwise any info I may post may be "useless" I don't personally know anyone with a GCG highflow myself, I know from reading the threads that are already active of people's RECENT experiences who, if you cared to actually bother reSEARCHing, have had no problems with their GCG highflows such as surging (although there is an older post somewhere where someone had commented on this problem too). Try these threads: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ht=gcg+highflow http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ht=gcg+highflow as a starter.... SEARCH is your friend, stop with the attitude and do some for yourself.
-
We have found using the search tool renders some very good responses in relation to the GCG highflow :flamed: Seriously, there are quite a few people with GCG highflows on their RB's and even more seriously considering one (myself included). Sydneykid on these forums has used several with very good results. There are many threads so use the search button and read!

3037s are considerably more expensive than 2535. I only have modest power aspirations (absolute tops of 250rwkw) and am really after a very responsive replacement for my stock unit. I'd prefer a turbo i can bolt directly back to my car without any need to fabricate anything and also, one where I'm not required to change management (i'm still on stock ECU + SAFCII). These bigger turbos will be pushing too much more air that my ECU can deal with so something that's close to stock, with a little bit of a premium on the power stakes is all i'm after.

I think I've decided to go with an HKS turbo. Sly33 on these forums (not the famous WA numberplates) has advised that perhaps the 2530 is a little too small for the RB25 and that the 2535 may be better suited? Anyone have any thoughts? I'm still looking into the GT25R option though. I've decided against a rebuild i think. Just a matter of sorting out the $$$ now....(or lack thereof)

HKS GT2535 - Optimum efficiency band ?
SeriesIIGTST replied to BigDatto's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but in general HKS do not publish their compressor maps for the general public. I don't believe you even get one when you buy the turbo new from HKS! It seems to be one of those moot points amongst purchasers of aftermarket turbos... -
GT25R has T25 flange right? Also, who in Perth sell them? Or is that another net purchase? Thanks for all the replies. Rob77, I'll take you up on the offer one day too, would love a ride in your car. At the moment I'm leaning toward the HKS2530 option but obviously open to the Garrett equivalent. I'm trying to get a straight answer from someone as to how "bolt on" an HKS turbo really is. (ie does the dump pipe match up, pipe to AFM, pipe to cooler, oil + water lines) I'm a little hesitant to go back to thrust bearing cause i know I like the instant response of my current ball bearing unit. It's probably being fussy but that's just me Dan, no worries on threadjack and thanks for info on Per4manz turbo option. Maybe i'll need a wrap in your car too

Not a series II turbo....well, either that or mine's not a Series II turbo (i have a series II). Can't shed any more light on what it actually is but it ain't a S2 turb

KamikazeR33: PM Replied. Sorry! Everyone else, a summary Rebuild/Replace stock turbo in WA with thrust bearing turbo: $1300 + Order new HKS turbo from Japan (greenline/takas/nengun etc) :$2000+ Order new standard turbo from Nissan: $1800 ish Highflow stock unit by GCG: $1950 + shipping each way (450HP Stage 1) What do you all think?
-
I would also be interested in this but for RB25. Are the oil and water lines to RB20 the same as to RB25 in standard form? 26GTS, does the stock dump pipe fit? What about the pipe between AFM and turbo? Pipe to intercooler? Sorry to hijack...sort of on topic....

Does anyone have the contact details for turbo tech? Cheers for responses thus far!

HKS 2535 Turbo
SeriesIIGTST replied to GTStR32's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
you have PM and e-mail -
Hi all A lot of you will know that all too familiar sound when the bearings in your turbo decide to slowly seize up. I knew my car wasn't running well on the "Children of the Dark" crusie but I didn't think it was this terminal. Anyway, after a couple of days reading forums I think I've got the following options:- 1) Rebuild the original turbo (going to Per4manz or otherwise) 2) Get a replacement 2nd hand stock item 3) Second hand used item other than stock (HKS 2530/2535 or similar) 4) New turbo 5) Send to CGC for highflow of original. Basically, I don't want to have to bother with new tubular manifolds or the like and would rather something that bolts into the stock location. Oil and water lines can be made if necessary as can dump/front pipes. What would you all recommend. Budget is $2,500 absolute tops. (I've just spent $4K on rebuild so I'm strapped for cash). Car is R33 S2 with FMIC, clutch, 910 fuel pump, S-AFCII, EBC and forged pistons. If anyone is suggesting new turbo, any suggestions where in Perth? Cheers! Dave

Something you boys have all done before...
SeriesIIGTST replied to 88silhouette's topic in General Automotive Discussion
My first drive of a turbo was during a rally driving course I did for my 21st and was in a galant VR4 turbo. That course such awesome fun and i just loved the turbo kick. Two months later my SR20'd Pulsar was no more and my R33 turbo was taking me for a boostin' :burnout: -

You seem to be making a habit of this adrian! Buy it people you won't be disappointed. Adrian is a good trader too! I'm loving mine Dave FREE BUMP! -
How was basement jaxx? I was planning on catching the end of their gig but Metallica played overtime. The pyrotechnics involved very loud "explosions" at the start of 'One' which were supposed to represent gunfire and bombs. They also shot up a few fireworks during the song. They finished with more fireworks on Enter Sandman. Was simply excellent.
-
For those of you that didn't go to the big day out, YOU MISSED OUT! Far out. Truely awesome day topped off by a Metallica set which went for 2 hours, had pyrotechnics and was distinctly old school with only 3 songs being played from their St Anger CD and including classics such as Bell Tolls, One, Sandman, Sad But True, Fade to Black, Blackened & Master of Puppets! I don't feel so bad about missing the cruise now, hope you all had a good time on that though. :headbang: METALLICA :headbang:

strangely quiet all of a sudden.... :flamed: What? no one else wishing to tell me what the grille I own is not a series 2? Funny really, thought my nick might have given away the fact that, yes, I do have a S2 R33 and that if the grille did come off it, that it may actually be a S2 grille.
-
okay fine. for all those that know my own car better than i do (obviously), here is a pic of my S2 grille with "S" ON THE GRILLE as well as my S2 car with the "S" on the bonnet. If this type of grille is what you're after, feel free to PM me. If you think it's still a s1 grille and that s2's only have the badge on the bonnet then :usuck:
