  1. Yeah, it did at high RPM. However, i wouldn't have a clue what i was supposed to be listening to but when i took a mechanic friend of mine for a spin, he confirmed it was pinging. However, I was led to believe that the "Check Eng" light was supposed to flash when the engine detected knocking? yet mine stayed quietly off. I think she had a hard life back in jap land and me adding some breathing mods to her which upped the boost didn't help an already starving engine.
  2. stage 80 for the GTR....dayme...i'm a long way off. i've only just started playing it though and it's MAD! My rhonda Civic never looked so rice.....
  3. B-Man I broke 3 so yeah you win. This one was out of cyl 6 and was far and away the worst one affected.
  4. AutoTrust: I believe my fuel pump was to blame for the engine running lean. It wasn't keeping pressure up, particularly when boosting. I've replaced it with a large Bosch item now. Am getting injectors flow tested on Friday so will let you know if they were also to blame. And yes, the ol hip pocket has taken a fair whack.
  5. i hate geocities....having problems with the link...gimme a minute people. Okay, link fixed sorta....click away!
  6. People, I can't stress this enough. Make sure your car has good tuning. PERIOD. This is the result of running the car lean for too long without a good tune. Trust me it can and will happen. And for all those interested, this is what ring lands look like when they are totally screwed. Cheers! To see it go to this page and click on the only link there! No More Mr Ring Land
  7. Basically it stops engine blow by from entering your intake system. Most engines will get some blow by as part of normal driving but not a lot to worry about. However, as the engine grows more tired and the rings start to wear, more blow by gets produced and the catch can will simply "catch" this oil and continue to let the air re-circulate without the oil in it. It's a preventative thing rather than a performance mod.
  8. yeah, threads, post counts, members.....
  9. HOLY CRAP We lost 400 odd pages of quality whoring..... WHOA!
  10. YAY, it's back I suddenly realised how much time I spend on these forums when it's not there to browse/whore. Welcome back SAU!
  11. Hello fellow Perthites, After having 5 cylinders for a while, today was d-day for my engine and it's now in a million little pieces in my workshop Full rebuild on the cards with forged pistons to ensure whatever caused cyl 6 to grab the bore will never happen again. Anyway, what i'm really after is a couple of things:- 1) Where can you buy full engine overhaul gasket sets? I need everything from the bottom to the top, inlet plenum seals, exhaust gasket, the works. Where do you get them here in perth? 2) Pistons, I believe SST sells Arias pistons. Correct? 3) Fuel pump? Where can you get aftermarket bosch pumps? Repco? I'm thinking probably just the 910 model, maybe 984? 4) Any other parts I may need for my rebuild? 5) Where do people recommend to do the head/block machining? Feedback would be appreciated. Cheers! Dave (about to be very broke!)
  12. Hi all, I've just removed the engine from my R33 for a rebuild and I was checking out my turbo. Does this look like a standard Series2 compressor wheel? I was under the impression that it was plastic (nylon?) but to me, this feels like steel. Any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers!
  13. thanks for the quick reply, i ended up sliding the whole thing out with it attached. Was worried about it all springing to pieces on me.
  14. Hi all, I'm in the process of taking off my head and have got to the cam shafts. The exhaust is easy but with the inlet, there is the VCT to worry about. There are four little screws on the gold thing (i'd assume the VCT stuff) and a few other around it. Can anyone help and tell me which to remove to get the inlet camshaft out? Cheers
  15. One word: :uh-huh: SWEEEEEEEEEET:uh-huh: Good job on the happy snapping. Wouldn't have ever know that such a beast lurks on Perth roads....
  16. There is one in this thread S13 Conversion Where the guy has put an RB25DET into his S13, added a second turbo (making it a DETT) and then replacing the turbos with HKS 2530s. Said to make about 400rwkw. I think that classifies as a crazy S13 swap.
  17. hehehe:D Nice work crooser:p
  18. I can't help you in terms of where the GT-RS fits into the picture as I'm in a similar boat thinking the 2535 was between the two and from the specs it would appear to be the case. Have you settled on an HKS turbo? Because you should have a read of a thread called "HKS turbos v Garrett" or something similar. Very good discussion. I was thinking the HKS 2535 for mine as i only have modest power aspirations but I'm leaning towards a garrett GT25/28 now as they are more efficient at lower boost than a similar spec'd HKS item. Good luck! Will be interesting to read people's comments.... :burnout:
  19. 5pm, yabba dabba do...i'm off ciao!

  21. full sic subwoofa moiyte....friends got that DVD....classic
  22. far out, that's a long way down if that's true. I wouldn't have wanted to be water-skiing or rowing below if/when that happened!
  23. Yeah, i know the guy that won and it was him that bought a whole book. Cost him $100 but it was a good gamble in the end. He wasn't actually there for the presentation but it does look sus that the SilvaWA president works at the same place the winner of the Wolf works for but as I also had tickets, I can assure you if there were dodgy dealings, i'd be the first to know/complain about it.
  24. Does it look like the engine below? If so, it's SR20 and 2L, if not, it's CA18 and 1.8L Cheers
  25. I think Steve-SST already beat you to your bragging rights in the Perf section...
