SAU Vic General Meeting - Tuesday 16th November
SeriesIIGTST replied to adznight's topic in Victoria
you won't be the only WA representative I'll try and get there although i have no idea what any of you look like. Anyone got a mobile i can ring when i get there to find you all? Plus, any chance I can jump in with someone for a bit of Vic cruise action? -
Removing gearbox @ home can it be done??
SeriesIIGTST replied to a topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
hmm...re-reading my post. Lifting part sounds dodgy but seriously, you don't have to be superman to lift the box, i could lift it and hold it while my friends positioned the jack and i'm no muscle bound gym junkie. Transmission jack would certainly make it easier though -
Removing gearbox @ home can it be done??
SeriesIIGTST replied to a topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I took out and put my gearbox back in on my 33 gtst not 4 weeks ago in my garage. Like most people have said, I drove the front of the car up on ramps then jacked the back of the car up and put it on stands so the whole car was in the air. The tip about lowering the back of the gearbox to help get to the top bolts is invaluable. As is having many long 1/2" drive extension bars. With the starter motor bolts, we found two people got it on and off fairly easily although it's certianly fiddly. One would hold the socket on the bolt from beneath the car while the 2nd person turned the socket using the rachet from the top. Slow progress but doable. In terms of putting it back in, we didn't have a transmission jack but a handy trick was to put some rope around the front and back of the 'box, feed the rope through the hole where the gearstick feeds though and then get a guy with a few muscles to physically lift the box up into position while a friend or two positions your normal trolley jack under the box to help hold it. Then it's just a matter of co-ordination lifting and aligning to get it to slot back in. Good luck! -
Question 2 - Apexi Power FC standard tune
SeriesIIGTST replied to Peter Wilson's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Tune is fine to drive car on, mine actually wasn't too bad at all in terms of AFR's and my car is more modded than yours (bigger tubo, fuel pump, reg to name a few things) Good tune is minimum $250 but depends how far out your tune it in the first place. Just don't go boosting everywhere without dyno tune but if you do, it won't be too bad. Well, that's just what i found when i did mine about 4 weeks ago. Don't buy the software, leave the tune to the pro's. -
Good power. I got exactly the same power 220rwkw (295rwhp) at 11.5 psi on my 2535 on my RB25 with both my PFC tune and my S-AFCII tune. Although the PFC tune has a lot better AFR's than my S-AFCII tune. I would think that given the 2535 is slightly bigger, that it would make sense that my power was achieved at 2psi less than yours (not that 2psi is a lot!!) I'm just waiting on getting bigger injectors before I crank my boost upwards of a bar! :burnout: Enjoy!

Coming from someone that has gone from a similarly modded S2 R33, buy a pod #1 and dump pipe #2, then a computer like PFC or Wolf 3D #3. Once the car is breathing (through mods #1 & #2), you will notice a huge difference when you fit and tune the computer. If you go for something like the wolf, you get the ability to control boost as well or if you buy the PFC + boost kit, again, you've effectively got an EBC as well. The reason i suggest this order is that I didn't do it this way, i bought cooler and EBC and neglected a good tune and subsequently went through a $5K+ engine rebuild. For around the $2K mark installed and tuned for a PFC or Wolf, it's best money you'll spend, even if it doesn't net you big power, you'll have a safe tune! Next mods would be intercooler, fuel pump, turbo, injectors, fuel reg, Z32 AFM, 1st mortgage, 1st car loan, bigger turbo again, plenum, Q45 throttle body, custom manifold, 2nd car loan, external wastegate, 2nd fuel pump, surge tank, bigger turbo again, bigger injectors again, third fuel pump, 2nd mortgage, 3rd car loan, 2 way LSD, MT tyres, drag suspension, carbon fibre body parts, roll cage, stripped car, PowerFC pro, AVC-R, 10 second quarters, 4th mortgage and still not happy, new car etc....

I might just show up Have to figure out how to get there by train/tram but i'm sure i'll figure it out. Look for a guy in a red/black SAUWA shirt looking lost!

Occupation & Age of Skyline Owner
SeriesIIGTST replied to geno8r's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
96 R33 GTST Series II 23 Sandgroper Auditor -
Cheers for welcomes The other thing I've noticed is that people seem to really jump on the throttle, not like street drags, but just taking off, no matter what the car, people just belt through the interestion when they're not giving way to pedistrians. Add 1x Ferrari 308 this afternoon on William :uh-huh: I'm over for three weeks so if there is any cruises on i'd love to take part to see what the Vic seen is like. Beers and petrol money in it

haha, I've had clients in my car but then again 340rwhp isn't 440rwhp is it? I actually had a client request for me to take him for a ride! Just doing my part to upset the boring accountant image

Hi all, I arrived in your fair city of Melbourne yesterday afternoon and in the total of 1 hour that i've spent roaming your streets have been impressed by my sightings of nice motor vehicles. Some stand outs so far include: one custom blue R33 GTST with no rear wing and bling chromies on William St one black R34, no wing on Bourke Street one silver supra with full bodykit on William Street Seen several other imports as well as more than your fair share of noisy pushrods. Keep up the good show Melbourne

Dan, Happy with why you answered Fane's question, and I personally have nothing against the WRX except to say that it ain't my cuppa tea but I respect everyone's different and hence why my answer didn't actually bag your response except to say that we were really only seeking feedback on the cars he'd chosen. The quesiton "which would you choose" was narrowed in choice to three cars and you introduced a 4th into the equation which wasn't asked for. This is what spiked my response. As Niz said, people generally narrow down cars to what appeals to them and then if they are still confused, ask another opinion.

If you want a hi-flow Cat, get one of BATMBL on the forums. I got mine for $205 delivered the other week.

fantastic conversation, very informative but how exactly is this helping the original topic being S1 vs S2 vs 180SX? Seriously Dan, he really didn't want to know about how great a WRX is and given it's a skyline forums I don't think a lot of other people on here would really care. Good for you that you'd have one over a GTST, I certainly wouldn't cause they don't offer what i'm after nor do they appeal to me in the looks department. Back to TOPIC, I'm also bias, as I have a S2, you're getting a slightly newer car with revised features (interior trim, rear bar, headlights etc) for a little premium over the S1. They are good prices also As Bam said, don't discount the 'ol 180SX as they are light, quick and relativley inexpensive to mod (all things being equal) The SR20 is a powerhouse of a motor too and can easily be made to double output. Like GunMetalR33 said though, modifying anything is f#cking and i mean F#CKING expensive. The skyline is a bigger, more comfortable car if you're having it as a daily driver.

EBC inputs don't affect boost - HELP!!
SeriesIIGTST replied to SeriesIIGTST's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for all the replies :bs!: Turns out it was the actuator opening early due to the mounting not being solid enough (modified turbo). We strengthened up the mount and it's all good now. -
Hi Running a blitz dual SBC spec S on my bro's car, all wired up correctly cause i've got the same controller in my car so i know how it works but for some reason, I can't get it to respond to RATIO inputs. ie, ratio 50 = 0.75bar, ratio 60 = 0.75bar. Sometimes I can get slightly higher ie (0.82bar) and the best i've ever seen is 0.91bar but can't consistently reproduce these results. Now, we have no vacuum leaks, i've tried taking boost pressure input to the solenoid from the turbo housing itself as well as from the manifold, both result in exactly the same problem. For those of you that aren't familiar with this EBC, there are two settings, gain and ratio. Gain is like a response type setting (ie, how fast it builds boost) and ratio is the amount of boost with higher ratios = higher boost. Therefore, higher gain = quicker boost and higher ratio = more boost so setting both these high results it big boost very quickly, well that's the theory. We've done countless "tests" playing with Ratio settings as well as gain settings but no combination seems to get us any higher bost. I know on my car, if i wind ratio up to something stupidly high, i boost well over a bar and there doesn't appear to be a limit to how hard i can push mine as far as the EBC is concerned. Does this sound like actuator prematurely opening? It's the only thing i can think of. The EBC is brand new and we have switched solenoids from my car to his and it works fine on mine so it's not that. HELP!!

Attention all you Computer Experts!!
SeriesIIGTST replied to N/A®'s topic in General Automotive Discussion
work issued me with an IBM T40 notebook machine. It rocks. Bluetooth, WiFi, DVD/CD-R, plenty of ram, plenty of HDD space. Swoite moite -
Do these come in T3 flange? I thought they were only GT25? GT-RS has same compressor housing and turbine wheel as GT2535 and GT2540 but a bit larger trim if i'm not mistaken. Although output on GTRS is 400 vs 340 and 350 on the 2535 and 2540 respectively. All are slightly larger than 2530 which is what this thread was about in the first place.
-
To be quite honest, I wouldn't know. I've got a fully rebuilt RB25 with forged pistons so I don't have to worry quite as much. Mine happily boosted away on 16psi but my PFC flashes up 100% duty cycle on my injectors which is why my street tune is back to 12psi. Once the injectors get upgraded and the fuel pump upgraded, i'll probably screw 18psi into it as that's where these turbo's like to operate (approx 1.2bar)
-
After reading lots and speaking with people, I decided on one step up from the 2530 being the 2535 on my RB25. It certainly doesn't make 511rwps or even 438rwhp for that matter but the best i've seen out of it is 339rwhp @ 16psi and more recently, i've had it "street" tuned at only 12psi for 300 rwhp. Now I can tell you 220rwkw in any gear is a lot of fun. I've not run the track yet but I'd hope for low 13/high 12 and if Sly33's results are anything to go by, it should do it. Given that 12psi is hardly in the HKS 2535's efficiency range, it's safe to say that if I were to wind the boost up and get it retuned, everyday 250rwkw would be easy. Unfortunately for me, the fuel pump and my injectors don't keep up with that power for the moment so I've left it at 12psi. The 2530, 2535 and even the 2540 are not big turbos. If you're chasing the big numbers, don't get one. If you're after quick response, good street power and about 250rwkw, buy one and be happy
-
If you see the other thread in the Forced Induction section, you will see a graph that Tristan posted tonight showing 438rwhp which is about the same as he has run previously. Well done trisso
-
Well done all! Stand looks good, banner looks great, shirts look great and the SAUWA promo girls took out Miss Auto Salon The venue appears good but I've heard a few things about the organisers being very strict in some areas. Oh well. Go you good thing SAUWA :uh-huh:
-
No doubt it's coils/plugs breaking down. Make sure you've gapped your plugs down to at least 0.8mm rather than 1.1mm. Other than that, do a search on the numerous threads about coil pack breakdowns. Hope that helps

Interesting leg you're standing on. So you're telling me that my car isn't actually tuned properly and every car in victoria is so therefore they don't do it? Anyway, lets not start a shitfight. Agree to disagree but I can tell you there ain't nothing wrong with my tune :uh-huh:
-
NOPE, don't think so. mine pops away quite happily on occasion as a result of a very free exhaust and nothing to do with my tune which is near on perfect 12:1 AFR's thanks to PFC.
