Group Buy # 3 Arospeed Adjustable Cam Gears, By Popular Demand
R33fourdoor replied to r33kid's topic in Group Buys
Thanks for your patience, as I've been away over the break and clean forgot about the group buy. Pls check your PM's for my payment receipt. Please note: Payment made for 1 x PAIR of gears (originally asked for 1 gear). Please let me know if there is a problem adding the extra gear. Once again, another superbly executed Group Buy. Cheers, Mike -
.....Flinders Park. I've seem quite a few Skylines down this way, including Underdale, Kidman Park, Lockleys...etc.

I've had my R33 for 2.5 years now. It runs an LT12 "plug and play" and it's used as a daily driver. I completely agree, the Microtech is fine for everyday use, but I had a separate map set-up for economy. Original "mild" map was a bit rough and it showed by only returning an average of 17.0 - 18.0L/100Km in city driving with only 189rwkw! On the other hand, my new "economy" map is averaging between 13.5 - 14.0L/100Km in the city with a still healthy 165rwkw. With fuel prices the way they are, that's more like it! ;o) Each state would have its share of "gun" Microtech tuners, but only a select few are "the real deal". Query the forums and ask advice from people in your state who have had good results from their Microtech guys, don't bother experimenting. For example, here in Adelaide, I've could only recommend two guys that I would REALLY trust my Microtech with. There are alot of Microtech experts around but I would reluctantly say that most are specialised in Rotaries, not Nissans. And I've tried tuners that the Rotary guys rave about but they could not extract any worthwhile results from my RB. Had I been buying one now, I could safely say that I would be happy with either. There have been a few horror stories around, but they are more a reflection on the tuner, not the ECU. The Microtech and the PFC both have their individual strengths and weaknesses but overall, they're both great ECU's with strong support networks. Put it this way, you could do ALOT worse!! Good luck with your decison.

Group Buy # 3 Arospeed Adjustable Cam Gears, By Popular Demand

You can definitely put me down for one blue exhaust side RB25 cam gear thanks. -
Up until recently, I was using Just Cars Insurance. Renewal was $880 on full rating 1 with an excess of $1100. They offer a "Rating One Protection" for a few bucks more which is worthwhile. The problem iwith Just Cars is that you have no choice of repairer. This may not be an issue to some of you but when you're paying alot to insure your pride and joy, you want to know that whoever does the repairs will do the best possible job. I went through this exercise recently as some prick wrecked my rear quarter while the car was parked in the street and never left a note. Had to pay the full excess out MY pocket. So I went to my choice of repairer and got a quote only to be told by Just Cars that I had to get a quote from one of THEIR selected repairers also. Guess who they picked!!! I have been recommended to H2P Insurance (it is part of the RAA). Prices are pretty much the same as Just Cars but more importantly, you get to choose your repairer. I believe Shannons also offer choice of repairer still.

Hi Rianto, Received our discs this morning at about 10:00am. Thanks so much for putting together this terrific group buy. Everything ran smoothly, discount was great and the goods arrived sooner than promised.... can't ask for much better than that!! ;o) Will also put some nice things in your trader feedback..... Cheers, Mike & Darryn
-
I also have a mate interested in a set of front slotted rotors. Darryn has an '89 Skyline HR31 GTS-X Coupe (RB20DET). Cheers, Mike

Just this week I began hearing the familiar and dreaded sound of worn pads. Bastard thing wants MORE money.....it's worse than having a teenage kid!! ;o)) Depending on when the group buy ends, you could put me down for a set of slotted fronts (possibly slotted rears as well). Will be getting the disc runouts checked tomorrow. Cheers, Mike

Car Got Stuck On 9000 Revs Without Me Doing It

Don't you have to take the key out of the ignition before the steering locks? -
Hi Guys, Just had my car on the Dyno recently and they've discovered something strange. When setting my base timing to about 15 degrees, the CAS is almost fully retarded?? Initially thought that the Timing Belt could be one tooth out but when checked, the dots lined up fine. Next thought was that the CAS was faulty, so swapped this over and still the same result. Anyone have any thoughts on what else I could check as something doesn't appear to be right? Cheers, Mike

G'day Noel, Well, I was one of the supposed few that actually prefered the 4 door once I started looking, irrespective of the cost difference. I wanted a fun, practical, car that went like the clappers but also had the unique ability to blend into the crowd when you needed it to. I was all too aware of the reputation Skylines had and the attention they drew (both good and bad). Being too old to give a rats arse about being the centre of attention anymore, I went for something that can mix it with the best of them without attracting any interest from the police. One gripe I have is that the seats are not as nice as what they have in the coupes, but aside from that I personally reckon that they look tuff from virtually every angle. Granted, they are pretty plain with standard wheels and no kit, but then again, have a good look at a bog stock coupe at standard ride height and they're not much of a turn-on either. My Series 1 came with some weird ass side skirts, subtle rear wing, tastefully lowered (not slammed) on a set of Tein coilovers and runs on some dished 18" Zepters. This completely transforms the look when compare to a bog stock sedan, without making it stick out like an FA-18 jet fighter. As for the tail lights, I don't know what the other bloke was thinking.......the true essence of Skyline heritage definitely lives and breathes in the four door too. They are as recognisable from the rear as any Skyline coupe, particularly at night. Don't bother asking everyoneon the forums about what's "best" because they're ALL fantastic, just keep your eyes and your options open. Look around and you'll come across something that will steal your heart and believe me mate, by that time it won't matter how many doors it has!! Cheers and good luck

Just my 20c worth....... Something similar went on with my car recently. Looked at the power steering reservoir and the fluid level looked fine. Stuffed around for ages and decided to look at the fluid again. This time I removed the cap, took out the filter screen and viola......almost out of fluid!! The inside of the reservoir had stained in such a way that it looked as if the fluid was at the full marker when in fact there was stuff all in there. Just for a laugh, check the fluid level again before you go any further.

G'Day Brent, Should look great after you get your paint job done. Out of curiosity, what are MC Doyles quoting you for your paint job? Are they basically just painting the top half of the car or are they doing the whole car again? I need some work done on my 33 sedan soon and was wondering whether they were worth approaching. One of the guys there has a nice black 33 sedan from memory. Cheers, Mike

How Did Everyone Get Thier Username/nickname?

Don't mess with me.......I have a degree in the 'blatantly obvious', hence my completely unimaginative nic!! Any challengers (apart from Pete)? -
Howdy, Was reading an interesting post from SK and decided to help out by knocking up a quick spreadsheet and adding it to my reply. Used the attachment feature but it didn't accept my .XLS file, so I decided to ZIP it and the .ZIP file seemed to go through fine. The file that I attached shows up in my post, but I cannot open or download it. When I try, I get an Error 404. A couple of others seem to have tried also but have come up with the same result. Have I done something wrong or is this related to some known problem? For your reference, here is the URL of the thread I posted in; http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...ic=110680&st=40 Cheers, Mike

Whoops sorry..... meant "short" motor.
-
Hi Phee, I guess it would all depend on how much money you have set aside for this sort of thing and what value you place on it. Considering you had a stock bottom end to start with, I would have thought that purchasing a good long motor from an importer would be an option!? It would certainly be less expensive overall (re-using your top end and ancillaries) and it would get you back up and running the quickest way possible. My car is my daily driver and my only set of wheels, so this would be my first choice as I couldn't afford to have my car off the road for weeks on end. Once you're up and running, you could start saving up your money and have your spare bottom end rebuilt at your leisure (with all the "good bits"). Sounds like a plan? Good luck

Howdy SK, Mate, you really need to fire up Excel one day....you don't know what you're missing out on!! As the formatting was all cocked up on your original post, I decided to pop it all in a nice, neat Excel table for you. Just have a quick double check to make sure all of the values I entered are correct. Hope this is useful (god knows, what you do for us sure is!). Good grief, I only just heard about this a short while ago and was absolutely shocked. Having spotted a brief clip on the TV and read the personal accounts of what happened on this thread (particularly Steve's near miss) my sympathy and prayers go out to all of those involved in this horrific accident. Although these accidents seem to happen with uncanny regularity across the country, it never hits home harder than when it is someone from your own community. My heart goes out to the deceased, his family and his friends at their tragic loss. Even though I've never met most of you in person, I would like to wish Drew a speedy recovery. These are circumstances that no one should be expected to deal with and to all of those that helped at the scene in whatever way they could should be congratulated for their efforts. <RANT ON> I hope that somewhere, someone influential is following threads such as this one so that they can take a cold hard look at the facts. The solution to reducing the road toll is SO much more complicated than simply targeting speed and alcohol. At this early stage, it doesn't appear that either has been key contributor toward this horrific outcome. However the powers that be continue to pressure the public into thinking that their strategy of targeting speeders in some of the most insanely inappropriate and ineffectual locations is miraculously solving the problem…..it’s obviously not! Speed kills…true! Drink driving kills….true! However it is the responsibility of the authorities to comb through these statistics to figure out what kills in accidents like we’ve seen today, because I’d bet that MOST of the deaths on Australian roads today, occur just like this. Tragic…..most definitely, but could it have been avoided….surely the answer would be yes other than in the event of some medical misfortune or deathwish. Could it be better driver education, more comprehensive driver assessment, defensive driver training or simply re-testing the basic road rules when your license or registration is renewed? What about the condition of the roads, the sign posting or the road markings? Surely there must be something which could have helped avert the consequences of someone’s action (or inaction) on this sad day. Maybe the proceeds earned from the Police’s blatant ‘money raising’ exercises need to be set aside to discover and implement some REAL solutions to this modern pandemic, not to just fatten the government coffers. <RANT OFF> Apologies for the rant. I don't profess to being any kind of road safety expert, but I can't help thinking that this didn't need to happen, so how do we prevent this or protect ourselves from the same fate in the future?

Recommend Anyone To Service Fuel Injectors?
R33fourdoor replied to R33fourdoor's topic in South Australia
Brilliant response mate, thank you muchly. Was that price a special deal? On their website they quote $25.00 each for 6 injectors, looks like you got them for $20.00 each (incl.GST). A short while ago, a mate also recommended Petro-Ject and Bells Automotive. MRE is probably in a more convenient location for me, so I'll give them a buzz. Thanks again, Mike -
Hi Folks, I have a set of standard RB25DET Fuel Injectors that need to be cleaned and serviced before being put swapped over. Has anyone had this done locally? If you've had a good experience, please let me know who I should be speaking to (location not important). Thanks guys.
