Gday all, quick question I have a r34 gtt rb25det and just got a gt35 and hi mount manifold, do u need an aftermarket ecu or is the standard one ok? Its lightly modified, larger fuel pump, exhaust, coils, leads, big intercooler

Gday all, Just after some infomation about a carb to efi swap, i have the carb motor and have bought a efi motor out of a skyline. Just want to know the best way either swap the efi gear onto the carb motor or modify the efi motor to go into my patrol. Cheers Hayden

5k for the 25/30 build is bugger all since some people spend 10k plus on v8s and the like, my patrol is a 1999 model with a 2.8ltr. I agree 220nm is nothing compaired to moddern diesels thats the reason i want to dump the 2.8 and fit a custom 25/30, these engines are good standard but with some work good really good, Iam not after a another diesel/tourer because i have a D40 navara already. This is a project so even if it uses more fuel its just a fun truck . The RB30/25 is a good engine because using the 30 block gives a decent anount of torque. It will out preform the 2.8 in both power and torque wen matched with the right bolt ons.

Mate it may be 120hp new and at the flywheel, its now a 230,000km old engine and power at the wheels is wat people want to know. The thread is about choosing the right engine from the 3 options ive given, not a open thread on wats the sensible option or go put a v8 in it. Also you must not know how to read, I DONT WANT THE RD28 , its a shit motor and added boost and lpg are going to f*ck it even quicker, The options were RB30/25, RB30et or RB25det, how is it hard to choose from them options????

Iam starting this thread because my previous threads have been filled with infomation not based on the title of the thread. People start threads on a pacific item or infomation they require, not to be filled with unusefull crap that has nothing to do with the thred discription. Gtsboy - Do you know anything about patrols, diesels or even anything to do with rebuilds and conversions??. Ive said 1000 times the 2.8 diesel in my patrol is a piece of shit, its about 60hp. These engines arent reliable and more boost and lpg will make it worse. Its not always about how much money it will cost. A RB30 will out proform and is much more reliable, and tge 2.8 wouldnt be much better on fuel. Dont just say boost and lpg the 2.8 doesnt need a hand the the scrap heap mate.

You can buy a 4wd for 5k and it would be piece of shit, and i would have to rebuild it soon anyway, its all about having something different then the next bloke.

Cheers mate just sent them a email then. Iam leaning towards a RB30et now for price and they seem to have some good figures , ill see wat RIPS says and make a decition then, any other RB engine builders you know of?

Wouldnt a twin cam put out more power and torque then a single cam, as i would have to source a rb30 motor would be easyer to find and probley cheaper then a rb30 out of a patrol

RRob: Yeh GQs had the RB standard, Ive got the GU 2.8 and its rubbish. Got to about 90 tops pullin a charade on a car trailer . How did you mod the head to fit on the 30 block, something about oil lines to vvt pully and taping a tread for the timing belt adjuster. I want to run a GT35 on my RB30/25 with some head work , hoping for 300rwhp plus on 35s.

Thankyou RROB , the RD28 diesel engine is a POS at the best of times, like i said a TD42 conversion with bolt ons ( turbo , pump , ic etc) is around $25,000. Ls1 conversion is $7,000 just for the conversion kit, then needs the motor then a rebuild and i need a bigger gbox as i have the weaker one that will not work with Marks 4wd conversions kit, Like ive said a RB will bolt into my gearbox and engine mounts , all it needs is wiring ( just like TD42 and LS1 would ) fuel consumption would be near on the same as a ls1 but with the ability to change boost to save abit of fuel. Now i am after as much torque as i can get from a RB series engine . All i need is advice on witch setup to use to get torque and off boost driveability. Thankyou

Gday kitto, yeh rb25det would get that hp but like u said need the extra torque for a 4wd conversion , like the title reads iam after bolt on infomation such as turbo, manifolds, ecu etc. All to get the most torque and i would like the turbo to spool as soon as possible . Cheers

The 2.8 only puts down around 220nm standard, the turbo starts to spool at about 2200rpm and is on full song at near 3000rpm , ive read the RB30/25 can have 550nm may be just a little later in the rpm. The 2.8 diesel revs at 3000rpm doing 100kms gets about 400kms/80ltrs it is underpowered it only makes sence to replace the motor with a RB series motor

As the TD42 diesel engine rebuilt, conversion and bolt ons such and modded injector pump, modded turbo is about $25,000. Now the engine i have is a 2.8 diesel and is a slug and has same mounts and gearbox as a RB motor it makes sence to save money and put one in, iam not after 800nm plus all iam after is the most torque out of the RB series, its a simple conversion aswell .
