  2. Also why was the head off in the photos? Was the build f**ked up? Popped a gasket? Tensioner is heaps rusty in second photo....
  3. You realize that to go through the ID inspection in SA the car will need to be nearly stock. Which is heaps of trouble typically.
  4. And you suggested cams, they cost more than a turbo installed ...... Or did you plan on putting them in yourself? You don't seemed clued up enough to do that.......

  9. Don't need to start then stop the car. Just turn ignition yo on after car has been off for a while. The fuel pump will turn on for a few seconds (doesn't do iy if car was just turned off, which is why I said wait 30 seconds)
  10. Fair enough . for reference if the diff isn't turning it can't make a noise. To confirm pump, does it make th noise when you turn the ignition on after the car has been off for 30 seconds or so(without starting the car) If yes it's definitely the pump. If only with the car on it would be engine or clutch related.

  15. Nice job with the wrapping. Looks sweet. As for the insurance comment. I don't see the problem. Insurance is a about managing risk. As mentioned op got the car cheap, so its not worth paying the rip off that is comprehensive insurance to him. How often do you crash ?

  17. A photo of the vct area would be handy. Showing the oil gallery from the block to the vct.
  18. Great t hear its nearly ready. I really hope it is what you are after Pete, I can't help thinking that a supercharged v8 would fill your needs much better, but I'm sure you'll have a blast in the new combo. I also know you will keep us up yo date with your thoughts!
  19. In my neo with less than 15 psi boost and ls coils they were fine at stock dwell . sorting the dwell fixed the spark issue at higher boost. For an na Ls coils will be fine on stock boost. (Get it. No boost. Whatever, stock dwell and stock boost is fine, therefore stock dwell and no boost won't misfire ,)
  20. Wow. Thats a good result. Out of a bad situation of course. I'm sure everyone would want to smash the guy, but the reality is you will be the one in trouble not him. Shit system...
  21. The speed of the shift is determined by the ability of he synchros to engage the gear, not the throw of the lever. Therefore, with a short shifter, the speed is not faster, however the wear on the synchros is higher. Lose lose scenario. And costs money. Lose lose lose.
  22. A new head on non neo bottoms end equals high Como. Good with e85 I would imagine.
