  1. What? You said it yourself the afm is a problem. Replace it or clean it and see what happens.
  2. No fair!
  3. Hi I edited my previous post and added more info. Typically the area they work on the most in the bowl, behind the valves. It's not unusual for the ports themselves to be barely touched. Most people want to just hack open the ports, which is not the way to go. A "race port" is extremely vague, as most performance talk, but I'm sure as the engine builder knows your desired outcome they will be porting the head as required. Certainly people make big power with untouched heads, but there is no doubt that a well ported head will make more power everywhere.
  4. A proper port job by someone who knows what they are doing won't sacrifice anything. Which means not needlessly enlarging the ports which hurts gas speed. It will gain everywhere. It's way more complicated and time consuming to do it well than most people can imagine. If I had the cash I would definitely get a gun head porter to work their magic.
  5. Retard the exhaust and advance the intake and see what happens.
  6. Tomei are nearly correct. It's not active at idle, otherwise the idle is reasonably lumpy. It activates just off idle. On a neo.
  7. There's heaps protruding, should be able to get some vice grips onto it.
  8. Now you're getting it. I knew that you would come around
  9. That is an odd one. I would certainly check afr on a dyno (I assume you don't have a wideband installed)
  10. No worries dude. All the best with it. Let us know how it goes.
  11. If you are boring and honing (not sleeving, no one in their right mind would sleeve it) you need 6 pistons not a couple. Sounds like your mate isn't really the guy to be listening to..... Skim what? Also it's pretty silly to pull an engine right down and not replace bearings. Eg, full rebuild....
  12. Having a sunroof doesn't mean it came from the factory with a sunroof though Also, I'm sure in the last 5 years the op either got the answer or forgot about the question!
  13. Ok gaz. I'll put some more info info into this post. There are big differences between tuning a mild setup to a full on setup. Of course the fundamental principles are the same. For example, I'm sure you agree an engine making more power is under more stress. An engine making low power can sustain unexpected detonation pretty well. It's a different story when running high boost and big cylinder pressures. You said it yourself the variables and tolerances differ. That requires a different approach. If somehow the worst happens and an engine is damaged, the difference between setups could be many thousands of dollars. It's complete reasonable to expect a tuner will approach tuning the engines differently. Much like training for for a footy match the principles are the same, but you wouldn't expect an AFl level training regime for d grade players. Im Sorry I couldn't take the time yesterday to write a a decent response.
  14. Pete, People typically want to see more photos and more information. Perhaps have a quick look at other cars for sale on here to get an idea.
  15. You need to know what head you are using before ordering pistons.
  16. Same due to map ecu.
  17. They are matched to the head. You can't just get others and slap them on unfortunately. They are fitted then line bored/honed.
  18. Anyway. As mentioned gsl rally sport. Tell them what you want.
  19. If a shooting range is far from your house would you just blame the government and shoot bullets all over the place?
