Hi, Had leather seats repaired other day (came out great!). Guy brought car back. Went to start next day and batt dead flat. Can see 10amp load coming on and off with car off and key out. About 5sec period. looks like ets system involved as when i remove ets fusible link load goes away. Seat repair may have been red herring. Any ideas?

Hi, I thought that may have been the case as i was finishing job in dark and unsure of two of the coils! Just reversed them, no good. After replacing plugs i drove to shops - around 1km. downhill and cold motor so i just cruised. No problems at all. then on way back throttled it expecting to hear that loverly turbo sound but only went to 10psi. Still ran ok though without boost. after a couple more runs it's getting worse. Boost very erratic. just had it going uphill on quarter throttle, 2or 3 psi and it's missing badly. took three plugs out and they are badly carboned up. this is after maybe 4km total running. could it be the AFM? I did have all the pipes off it overnight. Brent

Hi, changed plugs to ngk iridium ix. Now having boost problems. Yes i took several pipes off but have undone them all and re tightened them. If it's a leak shouldnt the turbo still spin up properly just will have lack of boost? Mine is very sluggish and only gets to between 5and 10 psi (should be 13). car still runs abit rough at idle too which is why i changed plugs. Theres a componant in centre top of motor which has two pipes going to it and wires to the boost sensor. what is this? mine is looking corroded. Boost seemed fine before plug change. \ Thanks Brent

Thanks for confiming that Scotty. Will go with the iridium ix. Brent

Hi, Thanks for that. I have seen it suggested to use heat range 7 plugs. I think ill go for the iridium ix 6 ones. Thanks again, Brent

Hi, Whats the best plugs for my arx turbo. Not worried about cost. At the moment it somtimes misses when at full boost (standard 13psi) Can happen at any revs Thanks Brent

Stagea M35 4Wd Cv Joint Problem
luvsno.stagea replied to luvsno.stagea's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Hi, Thanks for reply Scotty. I'm in NZ. I think ill just replace both cv's on that side and be done with it. When I twist the shaft the whole assembly moves, not alot but i suspect this is the clonking noise. If i wiggle it quckly i can hear a bit of noise. Maybe if it's only inner cv you dont get the clicking noise when turning? Thanks again Brent, Nelson NZ -
Hi, just noticed inner boot on drivers side srive shaft split badly. have noticed clunking noise but unable to locate problem. could it be the cv joint? weve had no clicking noise. can move drive shaft in joint , seems a bit loose. should there be any play in it? Thanks Brent

Hi, hopefully last proplem with arx for awhile. Tiptronic stops working when cars been going awhile. usually after 30-40 k's it will go to default (4th) and wont change. If i put it in 5th it will stay there untill it or I change gears then it goes straight to 4th & again wont change. Tried full auto service ($340). auto's ok although abit rough changing down occasionally, Dont think anythings wrong with auto mode though. cars done 155000km, 2.5 turbo. Thanks Brent

Hi, Last problem with my arx stag (i Hope!) Tiptronic wont work once cars hot. Goes ok from cold but after 20 or 30 k's reverts to default (4th). It also seems to change abit more than i thought it would - you cant really hold it in gear sort of half way between a auto & manual. Just had auto serviced ($350)(problem there before service). Auto works o.k but some harsh downchanges occasionally. Not really a problem. Cars done 155000km. 2001 2.5ltr turbo Thanks Brent

Stagea M35 Oil In Intercooler Pipe
luvsno.stagea replied to luvsno.stagea's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Hi thanks for answers- i'm feeling better already! sometimes when floored i dont seem to have any boost, It usually goes great at about a third throttle. Suspect air leak. obviously there is a leak where i see the oil leak. I tightened this & some other easy to get to clamps, seems better. Went to open rd & tried it, it changed down & sat on 13psi. tried it again & went to 13 then dropped back to 10. Suspect maybe still air leaks. Cars done 155000 k's so presume it's on second turbo. Will try to pressure test system. thanks again. Brent -
Hi, found oil leaking from what i think is intercooler exit pipe. (big, comes up from under coolant tank to top of motor left side). Checked inside pipe & it,s coated with oil. Could this be due to previous turbo failure or am i about to have major problems. Turbo has been playing up under full boost. tightend pipe clips & installed boost gauge. seems better. goes to 13psi then drops back to around 8 as revs increase. is this normal. Thanks Brent

Hi, when my 1997 stagea is idleing if i rev it to around 2000rpm & then take my foot off it makes a quite loud rattle/ vibration from under cambelt cover. This goes away as it gets to 1200 or so rpm. First noticed this after cam belt change 50000km ago. took back to workshop where they pulled it apart & found nothing wrong. It sounds like the belt is vibrating. Am pulling apart today but thought maybe one of you pros would probaly know striaght away what problem is. Thanks Brent

sorry, m35 2001 arx. meant to say factory bose stereo.

Hi, are there any inputs on back of stereo? I see a unit for sale which can plugin back & give you inputs for mp3 etc but before i pull dash apart would like to know of any existing input sockets. Thanks

M35 Head Unit - What Have You Got?
luvsno.stagea replied to richzx's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I thought the factory bose sounded pretty good. will get a fm transmitter to fit to my smart phone/ mp3 player to play downloaded stuff -
Hi, found coil still leaking through 'shaft' even with new plugs. Suspect radio suppressor componant faulty.( it's the small white resistor looking thing in shaft to plug-(i think)). I can see it's been shorting on coil side of this componant. I've also gapped the plugs at 0.8mm (copper yittium plugs). Cars going pretty good now. Idles not perfect (650rpm) & wee bit surging which i think is boost leak/fuel filter or maybe afm. So two questions. Has anyone heard of the suppressors failing and will the shorter gap cause any problems done the line. What about fuel economy? Thanks Brent
-
Hi, pretty sure oil burning is due to broken equilizer pipe. have now fixed this. Have started taking plugs out for a look. done three on passenger side (while looking at afm) they all look the same showing a light carbon coating. only been in for 1000km so somthing going on. checked resistance on coils, look ok. Will check other side tomorrow. It sounds like one or somtimes two cylinders going down to me. Brent.
-
Hi, Thanks for info. Just found equilizer tube between upper cylinder heads broken (thought we could somtimes smell oil burning on manifold!). is this possible cause? I'm thinking you are probaly right in checking afm and/or boost leak. Thanks Brent

Hi, got 2001arx 2.5det about 2 weeks ago. pretty much off side of road. went great on short test drive. Purchased then drove 40kms before flooring it on country road. started missing badly at 100kph, v.rough idling, poor economy (6km/ltr), rang seller who denied everything. changed plugs (rooted), noticed one coil had been shorting but this may have been due plug. Now goes better but still misses at 2000rpm & rough idle. occasional surging (fuel filter?) My 1997 stag did same at 2000rpm till i changed plkug gap to 0.8mm. I'm pretty sure coils are problem but unsure as to bad idle. any advice? Car has done 145000km, No fault codes showing. Thanks. Brent
