I bought my R34 GTR with upgraded twin turbos so wouldn't know to comment on stock set up but this is interesting. Uumm...never knew GTST's have HICAS...dumb of me, I know to assume.

This is an honest question - but I've never driven a GTST only GTRs...is the HICAS on both cars the same and works similarly?

We agree for once but I support your view. Styling in the Hondas, Toyotas and KIAs have in recent times become too "space-shippy" and round for my taste. Like the most recent Honda Civic Type-R, like what the fark? At least this Camry "looks OK" and hasn't gone off the rails too much. Performance wise, as the guys from TRD said themselves in the video - "it's really racey" without mentioning the specs. Fark, my Kluger is "racey" too my wife picking up the kids from school too...

I think the key thing everyone is missing in your post is that HICAS is supposed to kick in hard when you are about to lose control around, say, a sharp corner, and helps balances the steering to avoid this, but from the sounds of things you weren't going around a tight corner and you weren't losing control (in a bad way) so that's why HICAS didn't kick-in as such. I personally find the HICAS system to be a supportive system as when I take on corners hard I can actually feel the independent rear wheel steering assist mechanism kick in which, in my opinion, can only help.

Some main differences between a R33 GTST Vs GTR. - RWD vs AWD - Single vs Twin Turbos - Independent steering on GTRS - RB25 vs RB26 (won't go into power ratios as everyone knows the main differences) - Widebody flared aggressive GTR vs skinny/bloated GTST looks - GTR has been racing seats, nicer trims and steering wheel but overall besides some gauges agreed that the rest are similar Of course if you throw a lot of money at a GTST or any car for that matter than it's going to be wickedly fast.

When does this knocking occur? Pre-ignition or after? After changing the timing belt did you also replace the tensioner too? Does the knocking sound like a constantly tapping or pinging sound? Could also be caused by valve adjustment problems, the belt being installed incorrectly or is defective.
