  1. It's amazing what kind of stuff goes on out there in Perth at night! Also had a mate's scanner a few years ago and was listening to a police pursuit up the Mitchell freeway - the cops had to abort a few times becuase of the speeds involved but it all ended with the car thieves ditching their ride and the cops catching them on foot in Scarborough - that was about an hour's worth of good entertainment!
  2. Well, I was listening last night at 11pm and some kids were breaking into the Riverton shops (near me) - was almost tempted to go down for a look! Anyone here ever been on a scanner cruise ?
  3. Hehe... now THIS is a good idea: Get a scanner, capture the audio and stream it onto the net in real time! You'll need WinAmp to listen to the Perth boys-in-blue here. (they also do ambulances & TransPerth etc. - the police stuff is usually on later at night)
  4. Been looking around for a Skyline for the last few weeks and stubled across a GTS4 the other day. Are they any good, or just plain too slow since they're N/A ? If anyone out there has one, what times have you run the 400m in ? Is the 4wd handling a lot better than in a rwd ? Hmmm... they certainly still look nice and given the savings in both the cost of the car (over a turbo) and insurance wise, I might be tempted! Opinions anyone ?
  5. Hehe... Perth is just soooo friggin small! If you're ever up on the 7th floor, you might bump into me!
  6. This may affect a few people here... :Paranoid: Drive Article
  7. SS8_Gohan, I have to agree with you - the Skylines are very nice cars. Sleek looks, good build quality, plenty of power and lots of scope for mods etc. There are, however, other cars which can also offer those things (and more!) at lower prices - have you had a look at any other models at all ? Reason I ask is because I've been looking at getting a GTS-T for the last 2 months, but in my travels ended up test driving a Soarer twin turbo the other week. I'd never even looked at Soarers before, but after sitting in one of those luxury cars, the Skyline interior now seems really plastic and cheap! Plus that car was damn fast too! The only disadvantage they have in my mind is that they are (mostly) automatics and weigh 1600kg! Kinda like an elephant on roller skates - not really good for quick fangs around a track, but excellent for supremely comfortable cruising and loads of straightline acceleration (i.e. good when you're at traffic lights! So now I'm pondering what car I'd really like to get. To make things worse, I wandered into a car yard on Saturday and saw a Holden Commodore (yeah, yeah, I know... ) with 45,000 k's on the clock for only $17k. It was in "as new" condition and still had half-a-year of new car warranty left on it. That made me wonder why I'd even considered spending 25k on a 10 year old Jap import, with huge insurance costs and high chance of theft. Mind you, that brief moment of rational/sane thinking was quickly squashed again by my desire to have a hot looking car that went insanely fast! Agh... we men are truly pathetic. We're ruled by our dicks and need for speed! Anyway, enough of my rantings. Good luck in your car hunting dude. Hope you find the dream ride you're after! Just be careful out there - I don't wanna see a post from one fo your friends on here with pics of your ride wrapped around any solid, immovable objects! Cheers, EXIT
  8. I wouldn't bother importing a N/A GTS. With that kinda money, you could buy a 2 year old car at an auction (ex govt/fleet etc.), drive it for a year or two, save your money in the meantime and then buy the car of your dreams and get good money for the trade-in. I know it means you gotta wait a while, but if you're a good driver and have no speeding tickets or insurance claims during that time, then the insurance premium for your dream car will be lots cheaper. In the meantime, you'd have gained some valuable driving experience which will come in handy. Advanced driver training is also a good idea. This is just my opinion, but turbos and 18 year olds are generally not a good mix! You may think you're a good driver and level headed etc., but it only takes a bit of stirring from your friends / passengers to make you go just a little bit too fast which could end in tragedy. I'm speaking from experience here because the two sons from my next-door neighbours were killed when they were passengers in a V8 driven by an 18 yr old P plater. The car hit a tree and was literally ripped in half... By all means, follow your dreams, enjoy your car, but do a reality/sanity check every now and then and realise your limitations. In the meantime, buy a "normal" / cheap car (gasp, shock, horror! ), save more money and gain driving experience. Cheers, EXIT
  9. Does anyone at what times the various events are on over this weekend (dyno shootout, motorkhana etc. ) at the Auto Salon ? Couldn't find any info on the website...
  10. Having finally sorted out insurance for a Skyline, I'm looking for a good car alarm to help protect my soon to be toy! What brands/makes are would you guys recommend ? Anything to steer clear of ?
