  1. Ah ok, didn't realise it was a water leak that caused the engine failure at the time. In saying that though, it's still an engine related problem and I'd guess that the cooling system is still something that Cosworth would design/build, so I think it's fair to say that some responsibility for the failure still lies with Cosworth??? Regardless, Williams have the 2nd worst reliability record of all F1 teams this year which isn't acceptable. I'm not sure what Toyota's record is, but I don't remember them falling off the track all that often, so it mustn't be too bad. Like I've said previously, I'd love for Cosworth to stick it up the manufacturer's and their engine performances have been relatively good throughout the year, but there's no point in having a powerful engine if it can't last the race distance.
  2. I think tonight's race once again highlights why Williams have made the right choice in ditching Cosworth for Toyota engines next year. Great drive again by Webber - very unlucky not to get a 3rd or 4th place finish.
  3. Must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the day - watching these guys on TV doesn't really cut it after being out there and watching them go round in the flash. Awesome stuff Always nice to see/meet a few SAU people out there as well (Ben, Steve, Shaun). Sorry we didn't hang round for too long with you guys - the better half was freezing and wanted to sit in the sun!
  4. Exactly... When you start considering Williams's extensive aero problems, i'm sure most would agree that the money is better spent developing that area of the car as opposed to continuing to fund the Cosworth relationship particularly when the end product is inferior (or level pegging at best) with the Toyota alternative. I still think the switch to Toyota power is a mutually beneficial move for both teams. Cosworth have done a respectable job for Williams, but they simply do not have the resources to compete with the manufacturers over the long term. With 2 top teams using their engines (both racing and testing), I think it's fair to say that we can expect Toyota's engine development program to gather pace with the end result hopefully being reflected through increased performance on the track. 5. I'll be there in the morning - once I get some sleep I'e never seen drifting in the flash before (apart from some half hearted attempts during one of the prior Powercruises), so i'm looking forward this - should be good Where are the best vantage points for spectators?
  6. I've previously used BFG Comp T/A's, but now use MT ET Drag Radials. Based on my own personal experience, I've found both sets of tyres to give comparable levels of grip and similar 60' times, although I'm still yet to beat my best 60' time set with the BFG's, although I've been within a tenth (I will get there one day though ). As mentioned previously, I find that the MT's really need 1 or 2 big burnouts (i.e 2nd gear, lots of smoke) initially to get some decent grip out of them, after which a smallish burnout is adequate on subsequent runs. Contrastingly, I found that the BFG's were usually up to optimum grip after one decent burnout, although I've read comments from others claiming that they had trouble getting grip out of these tyres. With regards to wear, well neither tyre lasts very long, but that's to be expected. I've found the level of wear to be comparable between both sets of tyres. From a value perspective, the MT's win hands down at $250 buck a corner when compared with the $400 odd that I paid for the BFG's - definately not worth the extra $150 a corner in a side by side comparison (in my opinion). I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's also used the Hoosier drag radial that they did a write up on in Zoom a few months back. I haven't actually seen anyone using them, although they seemed to perform well in the test...
  7. Also spotted a blonde chick driving a bayside blue R32 (std yellow XX-XX-XX type plates) several times during the last few weeks - typically during the late afternoon, driving through the back streets of Meadowbank. No wave lol
  8. You mean this R33? I'm sure you'll spot him (Mark Phillips) at Eastern Creek this weekend as well
  9. 113mph should be good for low 12's. You could easily shave 0.3s off your 60' with a set of drag radials. That would equate to around 0.6s by 400m which would give you a low 12. I cannot recommend drag radials enough - in terms of street car drag racing ET's, they're one of the best bang for buck mods you can make.
  10. I've just had a new Jim Berry "Full Monty" clutch installed in my R33 and I must say that it practically feels like a stock clutch to drive...it's bliss compared to my twin plate. I plan on taking my car to WSID tonight (weather permitting) and if this clutch holds up and doesn't slip as Jim assured me it wouldn't, then i'll be mighty impressed.
  11. Around 280rwkw (@17psi) - sometimes a little more depending on the dyno.
  12. You should be able to dial in at least 5,000rpm (possibly more if you're game) and get a decent hook up with minimal wheelspin off the line. Drop the pressure to around 15psi and give the tyres a big burnout on the first few runs and you should bag that 11 and notch another one up for the daily drivers As for fitting the 3040R, you could say it was a little fiddly... It's low mounted on a HKS exhaust manifold, but due to the comp cover just fouling the standard R33 engine mount, we decided to replace the standard item with a slightly smaller Z32 item. It fits nice and snug now...almost resembles a stocker to the untrained eye
  13. Sorry mate, I must have misread your post - for some reason I thought you said Toyo T1-R (still a very good street tyre) instead of RA1's. Can't really comment on the RA1's (as I've never used or driven a car with them), but despite being a high performance tyre, I don't think there's much doubt that they probably weren't designed with drag racing in mind, therefore there won't be as much sidewall flex for example. Given that, I'm still confident that you'll see a noticeable improvement with the MT's. What rpm were you launching at? As for my car, I was originally considering the 2835Pro, but eventually went for the GT3040R
  14. Weather might be ok for tomorrow...showers may only be coastal. SYDNEY FORECAST Issued at 8:30 am EST on Tuesday 25 July 2006 Warning summary Nil. 15. They're money well spent in terms of outright performance gains, although your 1.888 60' is pretty impressive with street tyres. I'm only getting low 1.8's at the moment on the MT's, although I know there's potential to go at least 0.1-0.15 quicker with some more practise (and perhaps better suspension). Given that you're already able to do high 1.8's on street tyres, I think you shouldn't have too much trouble pulling off a low 1.8 or high 1.7 which would be more than enough to get an 11 (all else being equal). Let us know how you go
  16. That's what everyone kept telling me as well - i.e that the MT's didn't need much of a burnout, but in my experience, I find that the MT's initially need 1 or 2 BIG burnout's to really get some heat and grip into them (i.e enough smoke so you can't see anything else in the mirrors ) - then a smallish burnout on subsequent run's usually sufficed. This was in contrast to the BFG's I used to have. I didn't think they needed as much of a burnout as the MT's to get the equivalent amount of heat and grip. It's interesting to read how people have different experiences with same tyres...I think a lot of the variance probably comes down to track conditions though.
  17. I may also come out for a run if everything goes to plan next week
  18. Congrats on the PB mate Speaking from experience, I'd recommend a set of Mickey Thompson ET drag radials. They should get you the extra tenth you're after to get that 11.
  19. Not sure if this is any help, but there was some pics of a yellow R34 GT-T with GTR guards going round on the forum a little while back. I think the guy was trying to pull a shonky deal by selling it off as a GTR, but it was definately a GT-T. The thread itself isn't relevant, but the pics might be helpful to give you a better idea on apperance and fitment etc - might be worth doing a search (or perhaps someone else remembers who can help out?)
  20. In all honesty, it's not worth it to me to sell it for $100 - i'm not desperate for the cash, so if that's all I'll get for it, then I'll just keep it as a spare. If you are seriously interested, I will sell it for $200 firm. I think that's more than fair considering what I paid, it's condition and what they currently retail for. Up to you...
  21. I'm also interested in a price for GReddy plenum for R33 GTS-t?
  22. Any interest? Happy to accept reasonable offers...
  23. I have a set of SII coils of 97 Skyline - will only sell as complete set though. PM me if interested
  24. Cruising is boring You could always head out to WSID on Wednesday night for some real action You're always bound to see a few lines out there - could even give your car a run if you wanted. Link
  25. Quote from your petition: Anything wrong with articles on Skylines? Good way to win friends on here champ In all seriousness, I agree that there's way too much advertising in FF's, way too many ricebox's and not enough decent articles. You want to know what I did? I don't buy the mag anymore - quite simple really. Maybe you should consider this also.
