  1. Not wanting to be a "wet blanket" (so to speak) about running it on the 11th, but isn't that the same day as the SAU Xmas Cruise/party thingy? Just thinkin that there would probably be a fair few people who'd like to go to both events
  2. Excellent - exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks for that Just for my own piece of mind, if worse comes to worse and he can't access it with the software, will resetting the PFC restore access with the hand controller? Thanks again
  3. Situation: My PFC hand-controller is currently locked (i.e I can't make any adjustments via the HC - everything appears as zero) and has been so since the car was tuned, although I can still access all the menus. Apparantly the tuner routinely does this (via the Apexi software) to prevent me from inadvertly making changes to the tune and potentially damaging the car. It hasn't really been an issue till now as I don't really have the knowledge to play with the tune myself and haven't had the need to make any changes since I got the car tuned last year. My problem has arisen due to the fact that my car is going into a different workshop next week to get my new turbo, fuel system, afm etc fitted and therefore will also be getting a full retune. The workshop performing the upgrades has recently purchased the Japanese version of the Apexi PFC tuning software and I'm fairly sure he uses it to do the fuel maps etc, but I have a feeling that he may also use the HC for some of the settings due to being unsure about some of the Jap translations with the software. Questions: 1) Will reformating/resetting my PFC through the Hand Controller basically return my PFC back to how it was as new (i.e back to base maps and also effectively unlocking my Hand Controller giving me access to tune the car via the HC if necessary)? 2) If not, will my tuner be able to access my current tune with the Apexi software, or is there some sort of password protection (or something along those lines) which will not enable him to tune my car? I posed this question to my tuner, but he wasn't sure (as he hasn't come across locked PFC's before), so hopefully someone on here can help me out. Any help would be very much appreciated
  4. I knew things weren't looking good when I saw one of the Rotamotive cars heading back along Ferrers Road on my way there. At least they made a decision now rather than going ahead with the day only for it to rain in an hours time. In saying that, now that they've cancelled, what's the bet it doesn't rain for the rest of the day...bloody weather, you can't win. So, it is rescheduled for the 27th November? Perhaps I've got my wires crossed, but I thought the sport compact meet at WSID was scheduled for that day???
  5. Same here - but at least its not raining... I'll be going out there to have a look soon in any case. As long as the rain stays away, I think we'll be ok.
  6. Further Outlook Min Max Saturday : Fine and Sunny Sydney: 19 23 Liverpool: 17 25 Penrith: 17 25 Richmond: 17 25 Better???
  7. I'd be interested if you could get the price down under $1k I don't mind spending a little more to buy locally and save myself the headaches of dealing with Nengun, but their prices are extremely good at the moment (due to favourable AUD FX rate vs Yen).
  8. Which tyres will you be running?
  9. I agree, competition is a good thing, although the chances of Michelin hanging around after 2006 are looking pretty slim...if MM has his way. I'm glad tyre stops are back. The one set of tyres per race did do it's job in dishing up some exciting racing towards the end of races, but it just didn't seem right not to have the mechanics in the pit lane changing tyres during the stops. As for qualifying, I personally didn't mind the current format. It provided it's fair share of grid shake ups through the season and that led to some of the more exciting racing through the season with the likes of Raikonnen and Montoya carving their way through the pack from the rear of the grid. The only thing I would have changed would be the way the running order was worked out. Instead of it being based on where you finished in the previous race, it should have been based on provisional qualifying results. In saying all that, the new system could be ok. It all sounds a little confusing, but I guess you get back some of the excitement of having the top runners on the track battling it out for pole towards the end of a session. I think I'll just reserve judgement on this one till a few races go by... I'm also keen to go down to Melb for F1 next year as I'm keen to hear the V8's in action for the first time. Hopefully all the changes lead to some more exciting racing next season.
  10. All current ARC cars are the cheaper Group N spec (which is different to the WRC "Group A" cars). This change happened a few years back with the aim of reducing cost and opening the championship up to more teams. As for factory teams, both Toyota and Mitsubishi have manufacturer backed teams. Based on last seasons form, I think Toyota will probably be the team to beat after Subaru's withdrawal. Bit of a shame that they've pulled out, but I'm curious to see where they go with their "exploration" of tarmac driving events...
  11. Drag radials I assume? Which tyres did you end up getting?
  12. LOL - I'll still be there on the day to help out as promised mate I was just having a whinge and letting out a little frustration because I'm not racing this time around
  13. I'm out as well If only the drag day was a week later...
  14. Black one for me thanks
  15. I ran 104.4 mph on the 12.9sec run. I can't remember what mph I did when I was using the Falkens, but it was definately over 100mph. I've heard the K104's are definately good value for money, so you should be sweet with those. I do way less km's then you and I'm also upgrading my turbo in a couple of weeks hence the reason why I'm looking for something with good grip
  16. Believe me, a 2.1 60" on those rubbish tyres is pretty good. The best I could manage on the same tyres was a 2.2 with plenty of 2.3-2.5's in there for good measure. Whether I did a burnout or not didn't really make any difference to my times. A set of sticky tyres would drop you into the 13's without any problems at all - they basically dropped me from a 13.7 to a 12.9 (with a few other small mods). Back on street tyres though, what are you replacing the Falkens with Tommo? I'm going to get rid of mine as well, just trying to get another opinion on what tyres to replace them with (was thinking either Toyo T1R's or Goodyear Revspec RS-02's).
  17. Corner 1 could be a goer... I can already imagine some of the less noteworthy drivers in the field trying bansai overtaking maneouvers at the end of the straight. All will be well till they've overtaken the car next to them and then realised they've got no time to brake before going straight across the sandtrap. As for CJ driving, it's a joke. If I recall correctly, he was by far the slowest driver of the Aussies to test at EC in the A1 car earlier this year. It's our home GP, logic would say we should be putting our best driver in the car for a good showing...not some clown that has nothing more than bloodlines to a former world champion.
  18. Go and speak to your tuner - he tuned the car, so he should be the best person to diagnose what's causing your bad fuel economy (presuming he's a decent tuner) and therefore hopefully rectify the problem as a result. It's not un-common for tuners to have to perform a bit of a 'touch up' after an initial tune. They can't always get it 100% right first time after a dyno tune as obviously normal street driving can dish up a number of different driving conditions as opposed to the constant conditions on a dyno. You have to also remember that your tuner isn't a mind reader. You need to speak to him so he can understand exactly what you're after. If you told him to tune for maximum power, then he probably predominantly concentrated on your top end power. You do have standard internals (I think), so your tuner was probably being safe by running the car a little rich in the top end. Presumably, he didn't pay as much attention to your light load AFR's (which he probably should have done regardless of whether you told him to or not), so they're probably a little rich as well. If that's the case, he should be able to pull some fuel out there which should improve your economy as that's where the majority of your daily driving probably occurs. Good luck. Let us know how you go.
  19. Anyone had any experience with Goodyear Revspec RS-02's? There was a good review on them in the Wheels tyre comparison article early this year, yet it doesn't seem like anyone on here is using them. I got relatively good price quote for them ($1154 for all 4 corners), but am I better off spending a bit extra to get the Toyo T1R's ($1370 for all 4) as it seems like quite a few people on here rate them... Tyres will be going on an R33 GTST (front: 235/45/17, rear: 255/40/17) with around 270rwkw. Can anyone help?
  20. You let your mates smoke in your car??? If one of my mates did that, I'd hit the eject button and send them straight to the sidewalk... Anyway, back on topic, a friend of mine had a Webasto sunroof on his Astra SRi and never had any problems with it. I know it cost him a packet to get fitted though and I think the novelty of having it wore off after a while. Personally, I think sunroofs are a nice thing to inherit when you buy a car (i had one on my Prelude and loved it), but I could never justify paying the $2.5k to get one fitted. Wouldn't you rather spend the money on go fast bits or a nice set of wheels???
  21. I think $18-$20k is reasonable for a neat, mildly modded Series II. You'll probably have to be patient while waiting for a buyer though. A lot of buyers will want to drag you down on price because there are cheaper Series I examples on the market these days. There's also a lot of crap on the market, so if you're car is in good nick, then most buyers will see the value in paying a little more.
  22. Traffic light grand prix's are for idiots. They're a waste of time and they can be dangerous. If some tool wants to brag that he bet me off the lights in his 'ful sik' ricebox, then good luck to him. I get more enjoyment out of pushing the limits of my car at WSID or a trackday.
