if you have to replace the turbo, you can get some good secondhand tubbys on this site for around the 400 mark, to replace with a highflow version you're looking about 2k to replace the engine, best bet is to purchase an engine from someone like justjap, roughly 3k ???
-
it means your turbo is blowing some oil through the inlet tracts ... some1 correct me if i'm wrong here, but tis possible that the oil seals on the compressor side of the tubby are leaking oil and its blowing it through your intercooler, when your bov releases the pressure, that small amount of oil in the inlet tract gets vented to atmosphere .. onbiously not much oil, but over time it will build up ... just me 2c

Does anyone have a datalogit here ??? I'm interested in purchasing one, but would like a little more 'basic user' info on them ... the price has also dropped, i think, now only 363 US$ seems V cheap for what it allows ... cheers
-
some1 correct me if i'm wrong, but they are VERY similar to sr20 tubbys .... at least this is how they look physically ....

no hail down in the shire, but i was out most of the night with the SES chopping down trees that had been hit with lightning ... so much fun waving around a 3m pole chainsaw, harnessed into a tree 8m off the ground, and lots of lightning storms around ....

the St165 celica GT4 has a water cooled intercooler, not sure about the st185's but the st165 has a smallish rad near the front of the car, then an electric pump moves the water around the system cooling the intercooler that is sat on teh top of the engine ... in theory this is all very well, but its a really small ic. and dont think it would take much boost to make the whole setup overheat ... or at least become inefficient ... the biggest prob you'll have is finding a decent sized fmic with a water jacket, or modding an existing fmic to have a water jacket - v expensive i'd have thought ... just my 2c

the mother-in-law got caught in a hail storm about a month back, hail the size of, well, inbetween a dollar coin and an 20c coin ... dented the car on pretty much every pannel ... tis a 97 celica ... fun .. glad my car was in an airport carpark on this day .... the wife saved somehail and put it in the freezer to show me ! couldnt believe it ! i feel for your poor gtr ... but all will be even better after a pannel beater and a lick of paint ..

how to stip and polish std Black R32 GTR Cooler?
tang0 replied to OohArrGTR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hmmm not sure about that ... black will soak up all the heat from the sun as well ... not sure how much this would be, but at least silver will reflect sun ... imho -
i have a hks ssq with pumb back mod for sale - pm me if you are interested after your research
-
thanks ! the thing about building them is i'm fairly sure each box will be slightly different due to different positioning of the afm ... mine is totally not a standard position as i made up my own aluminium support brackets for the hks pod ...

Was about time i got around to making a CAI box for the car ... and had a couple of hour spare today ... went upto the local mitre 10 and bought a sheet of 600 x 600 aluminium, this was about twice what i actually needed. They were out of pop rivet guns, so had to use nuts and bolts with spring washers anyway, roughly measured what i needed, cut out a cardboard box to the rough size, tried it, trimmed it a bit, repeated this a few times, and came up with a good size, transposed this onto the ali sheet, and cut out, the top was just made by roughly cutting out what i needed, then placing it on top of the vertical sheet now in the car, and drew around it with a marker pen, cut it out, then cut lots of small cuts along the edge so it could fold over and bolt upto the ali part easily. Bent the lip of the top, drilled holes, bolted up, and sprayed with some heat resistant paint, slotted it all in place, and used the headlight mount to bolt it down .. i cut some fuel hose long its axis and slotted it along the bottom, this is just to stop the ali sheet scratching the inner wheel arch. The bottom of the vertical part os bent in slightly to avoid the pipe going down into the FMIC from the turbo. As i have an FMIC the pipe that the std intercooler would return to is not there, and so is basically a 2.8" hole to behind the indicators (its s series 2) so i have a nice cool air feed to the inside the box .. see pics below www.host32.com/line/cai/DSC01946.JPG www.host32.com/line/cai/DSC01947.JPG www.host32.com/line/cai/DSC01949.JPG www.host32.com/line/cai/DSC01950.JPG www.host32.com/line/cai/DSC01951.JPG This last pic is a view from the front nearside, behind the indicators (cameria is in the hole under the indicator) you can see the hole that feeds the cai. all in all took about 3 hours, will get around to putting a window in the top at some point when i can be arsed. No idea if its made any difference to performance, but it certainly cant hurt ... roll on the 550cc inj and pfc tune

i know a lot of ppl have had good experiences with nengun, personally i found the communications to be pretty lacking, slow to reply, and he seems to be out of the office a lot ... having said that, i'm sure a lot of people have had great experiences, this is just my 2c worth

Cross Drilling Brake Disc's
tang0 replied to |PRESA|'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
just that i would not personally like to drill standard rotors and rely on them to save my life when i need it .. however, i'm all for installing some drilled and slotted rotors that have been designed for the job .. -
Cross Drilling Brake Disc's
tang0 replied to |PRESA|'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
cross drilling and slotting will do a couple of things to a disk, a pro being that you'd be getting rid of heat quicker, and big con being that you are weakening the disks a LOT .. obviously the choice if yours but i dont think i'd like relying on weakened disks for my life ! -
well, you already have a mothod of controlling boost, maybe the $ would be better spent elsewhere ?
-
not sure about the r32, but i think you'd have fun trying to wedge a 100mm ic in there .. i know it would not fit into an r33 without major hacking of various bits behind the front bar
-
personally i'd stick with the evc, having said that, what version of evc is it ?
-
my experience is the same as Cubes in relation to drops using thinner oil, and the pressure at revs / idle / warm / cold rb25det cheers
