I was wrong about the 1500 idle, what i get for posting from work and memory alone. It idles at 1100. So I tested the TPS and it is fine, that is not an issue. I borrowed a Power FC that has a stock tune and when you do the pre sets it idles fine at 700rpm. Regular ECU it idles at 1100. Weird. Anyways it seems like this is a separate issue. I can't find it right now but would it only be two different tones like that if it were? Like it's a constant consistent flat tone almost like a musical note no whirling sound or changes in pitch until it then changes to a lower pitched one for some time then goes away. I did some hard driving over the weekend and it was staying high pitched and not going away until the car cooled down. It's late here now but tomorrow i'll try to get it to be consistent like that so i can try hunting for it again.

I have a R32 skyline GTS-T and at slightly above idle there is a high pitched whine coming from the engine bay that I can't find the source of. Basically it's like a high pitched tone that usually will switch to a lower pitched tone then go away, there is no gradual change of it it's high then low then nothing. The tone doesn't happen when the car it at any other RPM than slightly above regular idle. Like the car will temporarily have a high idle then will go to the normal idle rpm and it will go away. Any ideas on what I should look for? The car otherwise is driving fine and there are no noticeable issues. edit: i realize that the past two times i drove the car the idle has been very high at near 1500rpm and I found some threads on that like this one: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/227514-how-to-adjust-tps-and-idle-on-r32-gts-t/ Could failed TPS cause this noise as well? Don't see any mention of that.

Last time I searched I was put under the impression that these were NLA?I guess I will PM him

Do you know where you can buy something like this? I've tried to find someone online selling bilsteins and springs for the GTS-T and have found not a single seller.

There is this rubber connector between two sections of the airbox that would be around where i circled in my attachment. Anyone have any suggestions on what i could put here or what this rubber piece is so i can just buy it? R32 Skyline GTS-T is the car

Do they even sell these turbos anymore? I don't see them on their site anymore.

I used 91 aki with a Subaru WRX and made around 300whp. I don't need 93 to make power if I tune it. I will make less power, yes, than 93 octane people. However that's what I have to live with because it's just not available here. I have to use 91 AKI this isn't "cheaping out", lol. There isn't anything higher that isn't $6 per gallon for multiple states away. There are a few stations here that sell 100 and leaded 110 octane. I'm not paying double premium for that and having to drive across town to get gas for a street car. E85 is only in 4 gas stations here as well. My goal isn't to make as much horsepower as possible. It's to make what I can with the mods I install on regularly available gas. As an example, not real numbers, if I don't make 350whp on 91 octane with like a 18g turbo or whatever people are doing on 93 and I make 320whp instead that is fine. It's not my daily driver but I drive this car around to Arizona and California on occasion for example. I don't need to hunt for gas when doing that, i'm going to be going to get whatever premium is regularly available which out in the south west is only 91. My goals with the car are not to make a drag racer to beat everyone else. It's to build an autocross street car that I can also bring to meets that runs on freely available fuel. The top end gains would be hugely beneficial and I know someone who rebuilds turbos for when I eventually want to go further in my mods and I would have the platform (rb25 turbo) to rebuild ready to bolt back in. My end goals are only like 250-300whp. My other car has 420hp so I don't need this car to be more powerful. I was perfectly satisfied with the power in my WRX when I had it after modding. It's intended as mostly a road car. If it was a track dedicated vehicle I would use the 100 octane at the Rebel stations. That being said my question wasn't if 91 is viable, I know that it is from experience, my question was if I could run this small turbo upgrade without a tune and without it getting too lean on 91 octane.

Where I am we only have what you guys would call 95 octane but here is called 91. I have the opportunity to buy a RB25 turbo on the cheap but being that this car would be running untuned stock ECU, which many people do here successfully, would have only access to this octane cause problems with such a setup?

I have 350Z wheels on my car right now at 235/45/17 on the front. At full lock it rubs. Probably will go 235/40/17 in the future or something else. Front is 17x8+30 wheels In the rear I have 17x8.5 +33 with 255/40/17 and no rubbing. -

Well the thing is with american car culture with imports is that the 240SX is so popular because of drifting nad the GTR is really popular mostly because of fast and the furious. The people that like those cars don't really have the money for importing one. They also have no interest in R31s because they were never "popular". I've seen people only import skylines here no matter what it is. Someone imported an auto GTS sedan even. I was like why? Why not import a JZA Supra or a R31 or something? Why that? The people who are actually interested in other cars like the R31 and others are rare. I think a large part of the problem is people think it's expensive as f**k so to import so won't look and if they do look they don't know what to look for other than Skylines and Silvias. Like I knew NO ONE that knew about the Galant VR4 Evolution and that is something i know people here would want to find. People here just have no clue what is available and how easy it is. I bet when STIs and Lancers become legal you will see tons of them import and no Pulsar GTIR or Lancia. I doubt they will. Like you tell the cops that your black nissan skyline was stolen and you have the only one in the city like I do, lol. I will not park it outside though regardless.

Rb20det Minor Performance Upgrades (update Turbo Selection)
Kanaric replied to sama1500's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I found in the US DSM and EVO take off 16G turbos for like $200 you can get a housing from kinugawa for them for like $250. Talking USD here but if you bought a RB25 already you might as well just rebuild that. You probably could get EVO 3 and lower or VR4 16G turbos in Australia for a good price I would bet. -
Well for Mitsubishi turbos for example I can get a good 16G for like $200 due to the popularity of the Mitsubishi Eclipse here and on top of it I used to own a Eagle Talon TSI and know people I can probably get a 16g from for probably even less. I can find SR20DET turbos for only a little bit more than that as well. I can get a completely refreshed like new EVO III 16G for $500. Less if I provide my own turbine housing. Thinking the Mitsubishi route is the way to go instead. Didn't realize that Kinugawa made a turbine housing ready to go as a separate buy before I posted this.
-
Can you get a GT28 turbo from a SR20DET car and put a RB25 turbine housing on it to make it bolt onto a R chassis downpipe and manifold? From what I founding searching it seems that you cannot unless you get it machined. Is there anyone who makes a compatable housing that I can put on that would work for this? edit: Looks like I can get a TD05H housing that would work with some Mitsubishi turbos which works for me as well. Where I am in the US turbos like these are extremely common and inexpensive. Basically what i'm doing is trying to go a "budget" route and finding someones take off stuff and have a friend of mine refresh it.

Ya they said they would tune it again so i'm going to give them a 2nd chance. They said they have the commander pro software but don't have the cable. Would something like this work or do I have to use the one from Apexi? http://www.newark.com/panasonic-industrial-devices/afc1520m-us9/computer-cable-assembly-rs232c/dp/34B9250 It looks like I can just use a serial to ps2 cable just don't know if the Apexi cable is some kind of an active device or just a cable.

So when I got home I put hte power fc back in myself, did the idle learning procedure, and it works fine. All the gauges work and the hand commander is working fine. IDK wtf they are talking about. Wish I didn't leave while they tried tuning the car because I would have looked at wtf they were talking about. Needless I am furious because they charged me a ton of money for dyno time and didn't even get this shit working then made some claims about gauges not working which is not true at all.
-
Ya they said none of the gauges.
