Piglet's Rebuild Of His Busted Tomei 2.8
Meathead replied to Piggaz's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Hey Piggaz, just admiring your work so far. Just wondering how much of that heat wrap you used on the manifold. Looks like 1" ....around 70-80 meters?? I was looking at heatshield inferno stuff, what sort is yours? Nice downpipe too! cheers -
R32 Gtr Exhuast Question Help Needed
Meathead replied to djr81's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Its 85mm all the way but reduced to 80mm at the connection to the Cat exit. Have one on my 33. Does not seem to be restrictive and no drone. Quiet below 3k above its a nice sound, not to offensive to the public. :-) -
6Boost Vs. Doc-Race Vs. Full-Race Manifold
Meathead replied to cobrAA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Haaa fair enough, I can only get 98 here and having 9.0:1 comp probably will only be able to run 22psi safely like I run on the 5s. Anyway looking forward to your results! especially on road feel against the 5s. -

Really looking forward to your results Piggaz! Will you tune it first on 98 before changing over to e85? -

6Boost Vs. Doc-Race Vs. Full-Race Manifold
Meathead replied to cobrAA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I know this is an old thread but I am in the market for a T4 split pulse manifold. The 6-Boost runners all look the same length albeit quite long but the pulsing should be smooth and even however the Doc Race and Full race do not look to be equal length runners, which would not be so good. Looks can be deceiving but that is what it looks like to me. The stainless ones look pretty though. 6-Boost gets my vote. Function before Form!! -
[Closed] Borg Warner Efr Series Turbos
Meathead replied to Lithium's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi Geoff, I definitely prefer the single over the double so most likely will get the 8374/0.92 IWG. Like the simplicity. 1 question Geoff, do you do a downpipe for that turbo to go to a standard position Cat ( r33 gtr) obviously using your manifold. Do all my own installations at home but not so good at making downpipes. that would be cool if that is possible. Cheers Mike -
[Closed] Borg Warner Efr Series Turbos
Meathead replied to Lithium's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi Geoff, Which would spool better on a 2.8 (full Tomei 2.734 engine) relating to the EFR8374 1/ TS T4 0.92 IWG with TS T4 manifold or 2/ SS T3 0.83 IWG with TS T3 manifold Presently have Garrett 5s and 9.0:1 compression 260/10.25 procams that runs sweet no surge shuffle what so ever and is quite responsive, just chasing more of it haaa need it more to the left, higher and flatter ! Only have high octane and no syrup where I live. There are not to many graphs around and the ones I have seen do not seem to come on boost any better than my current setup. Been through this blog a few times and seen the blue R34 gtr on your website that would be close to mine but you are not showing a decent graph. I hear though that the transient response is real good. I use my car mainly on the street and winding hills where I live so enjoy good response and also take it to Suzuka around 3 times a year. -
Thanks Scotty, yeah I have never heard of clamping Teflon either. I'll turn up a hat also and be done with it, then its proper. Cheers
-
Dredging up an old thread but Scotty you are using the Torque hose and I was saw on there Ebay site that they say it is okay to use hose clamps on there Teflon hose. What do you think about this? if you dont mind me asking. I have a surge tank between the seat and boot (r33gtr) and want to get rid of the stink but the fuel tk tophat only allows clamp on fittings. Just wondering how good clamping teflon to hard pipes is? I could convert it using an JIC /flareless connector but they cost haa. Anyway your comments are appreciated.

R32 Gtr Build In Usa
Meathead replied to HarrisRacing's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Looking good, looking forward to seeing how the EFR works with the Crower. Seen a few on RB30/26 but not on a stroker with the 0.92 housing. A pity Full Race do not put up a graph of the blue R34gtr. Keep up the good work ! -

Circuit R33 Gtr - Midnight Purple
Meathead replied to tk80's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Good on ya mite, good to see the dormant GTR bug is returning. I was going to sell mine once but luckily no one wanted to pay 50K for a 120k (purchase + mods) car. I saw the light. Always enjoy driving it and will continue to do so till they ban hydrocarbons. Seriously you should just get a larger garage or a 4 post lift. All the best with it. -

Getrag Gearbox Oil 75w/140?
Meathead replied to Frracer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Just received this exact kit yesterday here in Japan for an R33 and keeping 4.11 They talk about the Nismo Competition 2189E oil usage feed back being so good, maybe so but I will stick with the Nissan BNR34 Mission スパシャルoil. The garage I use says stick with OEM for sure. Read lots of stories all over the net about Synchro damage and although RP synchromax is probably okay I will stick with the Nissan Getrag special oil (aka Esso atf) and will only use that as the box is a new standard box with standard synchros. Found this good article which made up my mind, its about the V160 Toyota Getrag...same difference. Have a read if you are interested. the-great-v160-fluid-challenge-rev1.pdf -
R33 And R34 Gtr Coppermix Twin Plates.....
Meathead replied to Sub Boy32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Different. Doing this myself, but just getting the nismo conversion kit (its cheap here in Japan) http://www.nismo.co.jp/en/products/competition/clutch/pdf/clutch02.pdf http://www.nismo.co.jp/en/products/competition/clutch/pdf/clutch04.pdf http://global.rakuten.com/en/search/?tl=&k=3021B-RSC11 http://global.rakuten.com/en/search/?tl=&k=1231C-RSR48 probably better of buying complete clutch and using your old one for spares should the need arise -
I bought mine from TM Sports and Racing in Spain (biggest Garrett dealer there) and shipped to Japan very cheaply and quickly. To give you an idea of prices in $A gtx2860 chra TMsports $1060 Sonic $ 1540 ATP $1468 GCG-Japan $2000 GCG-Aus $1780. http://www.turbosbytm.com/chra-gtx2860r

Queried that one about 5 months ago to ask if the picture was representative of the product. They never replied. Looks like a GT2860 to me with cast wheel. Bit of a con imo You can buy gtx63 gtx67 proper machined skyline hsgs from ATP online.
-
Hey Scotty, the thought crossed my mind but I'm hoping it will not surge heh heh Cheers!
-
Watched that Motive Garage youtube clip where they put the -5 into a -7 housing. Works well, has me wondering why GCG have not put a gtx in one yet. A few guys on this thread have done it with -5 housings and GTX2863 chras, no wot surge...could hear the odd bit but GTX2860 should be safe imo. I watched all of those clips from Motive Garage and really liked the Getrag in the 32 keeping the 4.1s hmmmm, definitely will look into that one for the my 33. Already has the OS gearset but what the hell.

I guess you could use the OEM comp hsg so sleeving is not required, In my humble opinion this would be a compromise so I just used some old HKS2530 hsgs which are T04B style (aka 5s) with an AR of 0.6 The OEM hsg. A/R is 0.42 and although from what I have read the A/R on the comp. side does not affect things too much unlike the hot side A/R which has a major affect on spool. Using the OEM comp hsg might make it boost slighty earlier possibly hotter also. Just what I have read. Anyway I prefer the HKS 2530/2510 gt2860r-5 housings of 0.6 A/R. I just turned up 2 x 6061 aluminium alloy sleeves 60.00mm OD 42mm ID x 48mm long. Bored out housing to 59.94mm . heated the housing up with heat gun (measuring it to make sure its bigger than 60.00mm) , cooled the sleeves down in freezer then dropped sleeves in the housings. Once cooled machine the profile to suit . Interference fit is permanent like welding but no distortion. I put 2 scotch keys in as well although that was overkill but thats me. The important thing is the 0.06mm interference!. Best not to press it in cold either as it may gall. Hope this helps some people out wanting to use GTX2860r CHRAs' with Skyline housings. Keeping my fingers crossed they will be better than my 5s in every way.

Front Pipes To Match Hpi Dumps / Tomei Ti Exhaust
Meathead replied to PSIKO's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Congratulations on the purchase , I have had Trust extension split dumps for the last 10 years. They sound good and spool the turbos fast but for the best sound you cannot go past the tuned ones. I knew that is what you were after in the beginning, but someone decided he knew what you wanted more than you did. Couldn't help myself mate. How much did you pay for those custom ones if you do not mind me asking? Cheers -
