Can anyone tell me how is the width of a rim is measured/determined.
Is it measured from the total width of the rim from both outer edges of the lip (inner and outer edges), or is it measured from inside the lip?
Reason I ask is, I have just had delivery of a replacement front Super Advan 17x8J +35. This is the exact same spec (well meant to be) as the one its replacing but when I look at the profile of the spokes, it doesn't appear to be the same. The spokes don't come out as far.
When I got the ruler out it appears to be almost a 9inch rim when measured from outer edges but has 17x8 stamped on the inside. Could it be a blunder on the manufactuers behalf?
I'm sure there wasn't 2 variations in spoke design for this wheel but I'm no expert on this.
Hope this makes sense and sorry for the naivety on my behalf.
cheers
