Just sticking an aftermarket xenon kit into a 'converted' r34 xenon housing produces a totally shit result. Yes, the light was really white, and it was clearly a lot brighter too. But the problem is utlising this brightness. That is, getting the light to go onto the road where it's supposed to be, and not going into the eyes of on coming traffic. The stock r34 xenons have a very clear cut off for reflectors (of course projectors have a much cleaner cutoff). They put all of the light down onto the road, and thus, give you more light to see, and glare oncoming traffic less. With this aftermarket kit, it basically didn't have a cutoff. The light would be scattered up. just driving along the road, even thought the headlights were pointed down, all the road signs would glow neon. This is a similar result that I got from putting a xenon kit into my r33 halogen housing. Basically, when it comes to xenons, you have to trust me. I've mucked around with xenons so much and wasted so much money.

Ran Out Of Gas, Now Car Wont Start
MANWHOR3 replied to 240dreams's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
not very likely. maybe you just sucked the thing dry. how much is 2.5 gallons? fill it right up (just in case if your tank can't suck to the bottom. try and start it a couple more times so that the lines actually get some fuel in them. you should be right. i've done it a few times on various cars and they all recovered. -
I see another who has jumped onto the the cheap gtr bandwagon and been burnt. I always tell people don't spend all your money on a 15 yo car and not save any for repairs. Cheap cars are espcially bad - you get what you pay for. Now, to fix it - having to rebuild the motor is probably not a bad thing. just like with any other 32, most of them are f**ked. so at least you'll be guaranteed a good motor. Also, most of the 32s i've seen haev a bit of rust, especially the ones from the north. if it's not too bad, then repair it. All in all, it sounds like the car was really cheap, so even after repairing it, you will probably still end up pretty well off.

Drivers Side Airbag Removal ?
MANWHOR3 replied to MKDR33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Not that i'm aware of. Last time we had the airbag out on my friend's car, i thought it woldn't have weighed more than 10 kg. maybe if you got all the wiring and sensors out, it would be close to 20? -

Installing A Front/dump Pipe & Cat
MANWHOR3 replied to PAV34's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
it's not necessarily easily. Nothing ever bolts straight up. e.g. sometimes they'll be slightly out of alignment. You'll also need a grinder to enlarge the bracket that holds the cat/frontpipe etc. -
Nah, they were narvas/phillips/osrams - all the same thing. maybe it was just pot luck (or shall we say bad luck). I only blew 2 globes, then switched out to hid, so i never knew for sure. The hid haven't blone yet, so I dunno....
-
I would not install a globe of higher wattage than what is recommended from factory. I have experiences from 2 separate cars where 100 watt globes have stuffed the headlight: car 1 - lancer. melted the wiring plug. also caused the reflective stuff from the headlight to peel over the course of about 6 months. The car was brand new. car 2 - r32- caused the projector to 'go off'. It went from being cloudy to clear, and the light that it put out was about half of the other projector. I personally wouldn't do it.
-
jerry, i used to find that my globes blew a lot more often after I redid the wiring. I did it properly, nothing wrong. Was fused, relayed everything. I went overkill on the wire. The core was 3 mm. hahaha. I was getting 13.8 v at the light. before the mod, I was getting 12.2.

I love cars in great condition. That is immaculate. The most exciting day of my life was the day i picked up car up from the dock.... memories

Was a nice rx4 though. What were those holes in the bootlid for? letting out subbass?
-
I don't know what sort of a shitbox it is for the wheel stud to snap and the wheel to come off by going into a pot hole. Snap all 5 wheel studs from a pothole at less than 60 (the speed limit of that street)? I don't think so. I've hit massive potholes in my car at speeds well over 100 (on private roads) and my wheel has never come off. Not saying that I don't believe you, it's just hard to believe.
-
I dunno, it doesn't look that bad in that photo, the left side seemed worse. Also, the taxi was pretty nasty.
-
That's the one. He was doing burnouts all night.

Damn, I forgot about my phone. My new phone can take pretty good cameras too. I dunno who was at fault, but it was pretty bad. the rx was missing a rear wheel. The front was totally smashed up. The taxi was written off because it was a side on collision and the doors and roof were smashed right up. The guys were ok. The funniest bit - the they were standing in a line along the wall for about an hour (they were still there when I got back from dinner). The look on their face was like .... Oh shit bro I smashed me car! hehehe

One of my friends has smashed 3 rb20 boxes with about 250 rwkw. The weak links in the box appear to be as mentioned above, basically everything in it. The ways it was smashed was: 1. shifting hard into 2nd. 2. near the top of 3rd gear, foot planted. Once the torque/power came in, the gearbox literally just exploded.

Do I Need To Locate This R33 Inlet Thingy?
MANWHOR3 replied to dcapitatedposum's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It is actually quite different. The rb20 one will require craploads of mods to fit. Check all the wreckers. It's called the turbo 'elbow' and they're not expensive. -
Tonight, I was driving down george street. I saw this group of fellars ripping a massive burnout down george street. It was so smoky that i couldn't really see much. Saw the number plate mr rx4. Then, down the street, mr rx4 collided quite badly with a taxi ........kids these days

Last one I had dynoed did 165 rwkw totally stock, stock airbox, stock cat, stock exhaust, stock paper airfilter...
-
supposedly, you need about 10rwkw before you notice it. Perhaps it might have got an extra 5 rwkw and a bit more response.

End pipes are not bigger. They are the same size. The core is taller. Core is also thicker. Same width. Theoretically, it will reduce restriction. When I was running 12psi, the gain after installing the cooler wasn't noticeable.

How Do I Know Which Gtr To Buy?
MANWHOR3 replied to Hawley_GTRRR's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Quite a few 33 gtrs are getting a bit nasty now. I've been researching 33 gtr prices for about 2 years continuously, and you start to see a general trend for which cars have a chance of being good and which ones will die in a few months. You may think oh, I could buy a 33 gtr instead for 30 k, that will also die, so 30 k will end up being 40k. I had the choice of 32 gtr or 33 gtst 2 years ago. Both were about the same purchase price. But the 33 gtst was 7 years newer. I knew it was a good car, so I bought the 33. The reason was, because I spent all my money, and didn't have any money in case if an engine or something major was going to die. -
How Do I Know Which Gtr To Buy?
MANWHOR3 replied to Hawley_GTRRR's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
If you can't afford to rebuild the car, then do not buy it. I assume you're spending most of your money, or at least most fo the money you can afford to spend on the car? R32s are old. Don't get me wrong, there are good ones. Most of the good ones have been rebuilt and have had extensive work done to them. Thus, they'll be very expensive. The cheap ones are cheap for a reason. e.g. an 89 model 32 is now 17 years old. Imagine buying a 17 year old commo in australia. That's what the condition will generally be like (note I said GENERALLY, not all will be like htat, you can be lucky). e.g. those 17k gtrs. even if you don't mod it at all, it might almlost be dead. If I was to buy a 32 gtr, i'd budget this: 20k for the car (if you want a cheap one) + 8-10k for a rebuild of engine + probably about 5k for general stuff e.g. clutch letting go, new turbos (old ones are a timebomb) etc. A cheap 20k gtr easily ends up costing 30 + if you're not lucky. -
Turbo X, I half agree with you. The dump is a total pos. It is the most restrictive piece of junk in the world - mainly in the shape - how the wastegate gasses are 'jammed' back into the exhaust stream at 90 degree angle. The front pipe is 'OK' that is, probably not too much of a restriciton for the stock turbo. It's got fairly nice bends and designed quiet well. The cat is a pos. Very restrictive. The catback is also quite a pos too. It has poor bends, too many mufflers and furthermore, the mufflers are a poor design. If you cut one open, inside it is really nasty. 1300 isn't that expensive. If you even want to consider doing any other performance mods, i'd finish the exhaust.

Daniel, they were just being nice. Generally, under the law of tort(where your remedy would lie), you generally have no action against the council. Agree with what Johnny cash said above.
