Just Dropped My Gear Box
MANWHOR3 replied to Savman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
My main concern is the weight of the box. It's just so awkard. r33 box = around 70kg. Just for fun, when the garage changed my clutch before, a freind and I tried to pick it up. Let me tell you, it wasn't fun. but then again, i'm not very strong. -
Also agree with wrxhoon on that one. I've done quite a bit of research in the area of corporate law/sale of goods/consumer protection/manufacturers liability.

Depending on the condition of the sII, 17500 is not that good a price for you.

R33 Cluster Guages Not Working Properly
MANWHOR3 replied to khunjeng's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
yeah, could be a number of things. you may be able to get it calibrated, but it's definitely not worrth it at all. I asked once, and it was about $100. If you want, I haev a few spare cluster parts etc. We can probably work something out. -
Bascisally, nissan recommend a 7.5 w 30. Thinner cold viscosity helps it to lubricate the engine quicker when it's been sitting e.g. overnight. Most of the wear to an engine occurs during start up. The warm viscosity isn't as important. But a thicker oil requires more heat to break it down at high temperatures.
-
It is fine for just one oil change. I wouldn't be runnin 15 w 50 permanently though, especially in such an old engine. The real question is why your mechanic put in something you didn't ask for? I'd be going back there and telling him to ge the 10w 40

R33 Cluster Guages Not Working Properly
MANWHOR3 replied to khunjeng's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Did you remove the needles? If so, the dial is most likely stuffed. Many people have done this on the forum and stuffed the needle. -
You may want to consider getting a set of those clear perspex ones. Newer design headlights are perspex because it is less likely to crack from a stone.

Just Dropped My Gear Box
MANWHOR3 replied to Savman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I might as well jump on the bandwagon too. I'm contemplating doing it. I've done just about everything else on the car short of removing the gearbox or engine. So how hard was it? got any tips? -
Yeah, but why would you wanna spend a whole weekened cleaning and still having it smelling bad after. Trust me, it'll nenver be the same again. when we were younger, my brother chucked up on the carpet in our house. This wasn't alcohol chuck btw. The carpet was brand new, like 1 week old. Since the house was new, my parents were fuming and spent like a million hours trying to clean it with everything under the sun. To this day, I can still see it. I can't smell it anymore, but it has been 15 years. Honestly, I would be taking out the interior. Getting a written quote from nissan for the said interior pieces and taking the old f**ked up onens and the quote and giving them all to her. Let her realise what she's done. The fact of the matter is that she's wrong wrong wrong. Why wouldn't you say something if you were going to throw up. You definitely know when it's coming. Even if it's only a few seconds notice, you know. She coulda gotten up and stuck her head out the window. At least it woulda only got the outside of the car. sure, it's a bit embarrasing, but how much more embarrasing is it throwing up on your own lap. On a nice guy's car. ...... well, that's just me

Gtr Gearbox Oil Problem
MANWHOR3 replied to GTR1993's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Forgot to add, I wouldn't use a ratchet either to undo a box plug. Shifters aren't meant to be used for really tight bolts. You will slip the ratchet and brake it AND/OR slip and cut your hand real bad. I bought my breaker bar for $120. I know that it won't break on me. Is a nasty scar on your hand worth saving 120? I would happily pay 20k to not cut my hand up. -
Gtr Gearbox Oil Problem
MANWHOR3 replied to GTR1993's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
My moto when working on the car is don't go stingy on tools. You end up either breaking the tool AND/OR slipping and cutting your hand bad. I always say, either buy the right tool or don't do it yourself. There are times where I just don't want to do it myself e.g. changing a clutch. The box plugs are tight, but not impossibly tight. I have a 42cm breaker bar with a nice rubber handle. I get it in tight, apply force - feels like i'm gonna explode (i'm not very strong), then it slowly turns. Gtst can be filled through the shifter, but why would you want to? -
Or if you wanna do it even cheaper, buy my falcon au coil (including leads) $50 Buy an rb25/rb20 ignitor for $20-50 That's 100$

Weight Of Standard R33 Wheels
MANWHOR3 replied to Primordial's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
They aren't the lightest wheel that you can possibly buy, but they're not that heavy either, considering that a lot of poeple run 17s or 18s (heavier than 16s). Honestly, i cannot feel the difference in driving between the stock wheels (16kg as said above) and my 17s (23kg each with tyres). I guess unless if you're very serious in your track work, save your money and spend it elsewhere more noticeable. -
THat smell will neveer go away. Trust me on that one. Every time you get into the car, you'll feel like throwing up yourself. It's got nothing to do with politeness. If that were me, she would be paying for a new interior. I wouldn't make her pay for cleanable things liek the winndows or the door trim etc. But basiaclly carpet, seats etc. It's her fault for getting so totally smashed. If she knew she was going to throw up, she shoulda said something and gotten out. She damaged your property, she pays. There is no reason why you should have to suffer because of someone elses stupidity. E.g. like if smoeoine ran into your front of the car and damaged it, they pay. simple as that. It's got nothign to do with niceness like oh, maybe I won't get them to pay because they're nice. If you compare it to the analogy of someone running into your car, the answer is simple. If she's worth knowing, she woulda offered to pay already. maybe she forgot to offer. If you get her to pay and she still talks to you, then she still falls into this category. BUT, if she bitches and winges and hates you, then she isnt' worth knowing anyway. If I did that to my friend's car or anyone's car (apart from a taxi muhahaha) I would offer to fix it in a heartbeat.

2way Or 1.5way Mechanical Lsd? Feedback Wanted.
MANWHOR3 replied to Cake's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
don't gtrs have 2 ways stock? Maybe if you get a 2 way that is quite loose liek the stock gtr one, will that be good? -
many people have got this working using an rb25 sI motor ignitor/rb20 ignitor. It is an easy mod. I Can't find the thread now, but yeah, they just wired in the ignitor like how it is in the wiring diagram in the service mannual.

Fs: R32 Gtr Wheels/aif Filter
MANWHOR3 replied to Fulgore's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I already pmed him early this morning. SOLD -
If you wish to call me a dickhead, that's fine. It's just frustrating when I've always been more than willing to help people out and answer other people's questions no matter how silly or trivial they are. e.g. what does this switch do. What oil do I use. But no one was willing to help me out, so it is not that I was frustrated at people, but rather, I THOUGHT THAT NO ONE KNEW THE ANSWER. reason for edit: Accidentally chopped part of reply.

Who Has Installed Their Group Buy Hid Kit?
MANWHOR3 replied to Xizor's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It's good though that you actually understand about the effect of installing bad hid. many people do not - it's evident by all the people that jumped in on the group buy. I wish I had access to sites like daniel stern before I wasted like 2k on crappy hid kits. I'm actually about to REMOVE my hid kit from my car. The only thing stopping me is I butchered the factory wiring. The 2k that I spent could have been spent to buy brand new sIII gtr headlights, which would ahve been totally awesome. That will probably be my course of action anyways. As I said, i'm obsessed about lighting. -
Who Has Installed Their Group Buy Hid Kit?
MANWHOR3 replied to Xizor's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
r33 gtr sIII came with xenon from factory. r34 have xenon reflectors, as do lexus is200, is300, gs300. Basically, a halogen reflector has different optics as mentioned by daniel stern. I'm happy to demonstrate the difference between my xenons in my halogen reflector, a xenon in a halogen projector and a xenon in a xenon reflector. I don't have a car with xenon projectors, but have a look at any accord euro out there. Xixor, I was talking about the halogen mtec bulbs. Yeah, install them if you want whiter light. will still have good cutoff etc. But they will be dimmer though. relay harness - daniel stern covers it too. stock headlight switch is resistance based. measure the voltage drop on the headlights. it'll probably only be getting 11v. at this voltage, about half the amount of light is provided if it was getting 13.8v. By using relays and thick wiring straight from the battery, you can get more voltage and it'll be a lot brighter. PS: I always refer to daniel stern coz it is a good summary of the priniciples involved. He isn't just one point of view. He is correct and is supported by many other people etc. I just quote him because he's clear, concise and easy to understand. -
Who Has Installed Their Group Buy Hid Kit?
MANWHOR3 replied to Xizor's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It actually does refer to reflectors. Basically, it says this in summary: 1. HALOGEN reflectors and projectors do not have the optics to harness the hid globe because of the different focal point of the hid bulb. refer to the pic of the filament v the discharge. 2. HALOGEN projectors will still have a perfect cutoff, because it has a cutoff shield in it. this is basiaclly a piece of metal that runs across the projector. 3. HALOGEN reflectors will not have a perfect cutoff because there is no cutoff shield and when coupled with the different focal point of hid bulb = light scattered everywhere. 4. just because HALOGEN projectors have a good cutoff doesn't mean their good for hid. the light under the cutoff will be uneven. will have hotspots. Regarding the bulbs, by all means install them. the cutoff and everything will stay the same. but refer to Daniel stern's page regarding bad blue bulbs. It is a common misconception that they decrease the lighting emitted even though it appears brighter because it's whiter. Basically, to make the light whiter, they use a blue filter which cuts out a lot of the yellower light. the bad thing is this makes it dimmer (most of the light from the bulb is yellow). Also, those ricer bulbs don't last long because they're shit quality. Best upgrade for lighting and also the cheapest, is a set of narva plus 50 globes/phillips vision plus - $26 at auto one waitara. puts of 50% more light with no more power drawn. This coupled with a relay harness upgrade will give you a nice improvement. But they are yellow though because they don't have a blue filter, but this allows maximum light. It all depends on whether you prefer looks or brightness. I have researched lighting for so long and wasted over 2k on trying to upgrade the lighting of my various cars. my dad is involved in an area similar to this, and has helped me a lot with the lighting. -
Apexi Ecv (electronic Control Valve)
MANWHOR3 replied to PAV34's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Basically, the resonator doesn't quieten it that much. If you get a nice big straigiht through centre muffler, it will quieten it down a lot. But keep in mind, no matter what anyone says, acording to the lawsof physics, less noise generally means less power. -
Apexi Ecv (electronic Control Valve)
MANWHOR3 replied to PAV34's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It decreases power ALOT. When the valve is fully closed, if I plant my foot, you can actually watch the revs climb about half the speed as normal and the engine chokes. It's very expensive. It doens't help you with exhaust noise test because they'll just open the valve. It does make it a bit quieter, but not a lot. your best bet would be to install a middle muff
