  1. ANDRA does not require you to fit front runners until your ET is 12.50 or quicker. But you might want to do it anyway if it's walking in the top end. Or just run more pressure in your slicks.
  2. I won't be at the Test and Tune now, Bavariacars haven't fixed the issues. In fact they've broken my Stack Dash which will have to go to the UK to be repaired.

  6. You're mising the point here. Drag racing is done on a drag strip, which has nothing in common with the street. The available traction on a prepared drag strip will never be approached on a street. Nor do streets have staging lights or timing equipment. Therefore the techniques used to launch hard at the drag strip bear nothing in common to "launching" hard on the street. The RPMs you can use are different. The rubber you can use is different. The clutch techniques are different. With street radials on a pure street car at a drag strip, then you would launch with a high RPM as you can possibly get away with, provided you get no more than 10% wheelspin. You want to aim to avoid bogging down (not enough RPMs) and avoid smoking the tyres (too much RPMs). The sweet spot is in the middle there with some wheelspin, but it's not as easy as it looks. That's what drag racing is all about - the launch. I'd recommend you use your clutch to modulate the power transferred to the rear wheels, even if that means not fully letting the clutch out before you reach second gear. Same goes for each gear change. This will shorten the life of your clutch.

  8. I was once told if I drove onto the red part again I would be disqualified for the rest of the meet by an ANDRA official while trying to drive around the water box. I then watched the same official *not* warn dozens of others do the same thing. Wierd.
  9. Neverthless real world experience shows it to be true. My best short time and my worst short time have the same trap speed. Do an experiment. Do a full on pass with your best launch. Then on your next pass, break the beams and wait. Then go for it. Your trap speed will be the same.
  10. Your short time has almost no bearing on your trap speed. Trap speed is all about how much power your engine is making on that track at that time. Your 60' time is about a whole host of things, including driver skill, rubber, suspension setup, track condition, etc.
  11. Good points, however an Impala is 1800 kgs, not 2200 kgs. I got my weight slip from the Auburn standard weighbridge and was surprised. Kinda puts the loaded Commodore ETs into perspective.
  12. Great case in point. Back halved, four link, big block with three stage nitrous. Street legal. Yeah, in some LSD drenched nightmare! Fantastic car by the way, goes to show that even cars without turbos can go quick given enough cubic inches.
  13. Hehe, which Rob is that? I took the BMW out on 14th June but we popped the IRS. The repalcement parts are being made in Germany and we will be back out soon.

  16. The side intrusion bar has never been mentioned. I know what you mean about smarty pants comments from some ANDRA officials! I just treat that as an attempt at humor, but I do notice that V8 Torana drivers seem to get a smoother ride at street meets!

  18. I agree totally, I've seen RTA papers for cars that could never be driven on the street. The process is that you get an engineer's certificate. You take that to a blue slip station and the RTA approved blueslip dudes go over your car with the engineer's certificate and evaluate if it is roadworthy. You get the blueslip and take it to the RTA where your registration is updated. Just getting an engineer's certificate means nothing to the RTA until you do the blueslip and RTA rego update. Mine is RTA approved with a welded in six point rollcage, but I can't have the removable side intrusion bar in when it's driven on the street.
  19. Super Street class use slicks currently, do you think they should be required to run drag radials only too? What about pump gas versus C16 and the like? No 90/10 shocks? No rollcages? No harnesses? No nitrous?

  21. Adrian, it's a street car with engineer's certificate, blue slipped and ammended rego papers so it's fully street legal. Obviously I take the parachute and slicks off when driving on the street, just like you take out your nitrous bottle.
  22. Adrian - no plans to run drag radials now I've got slicks and front runners sorted out. The car pulled the drag radials through in the previous trim let alone now with more power.
