Fitting Thermos And Removing Engine Fan?
Shaun replied to hayden49's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah mate, i bought some EF Falcon thermos from a wreckers for $100 and placed them in front of my radiator (R32 gtst). Make sure you reverse the direction of rotation so that they push the air thru the radiator, not suck it thru it. Also, make sure you spend heaps of time fabricating (or modifying the OE one) a shroud so that when the thermos are on, no air escapes around the radiator. I found Clark Rubber to be a cold mine of sealing rubbers! Mine work much better than i expected, they push heaps of air. Ill try to find a photo for ya. Shaun. Oh yeah, ive got an air diversion plate that goes over the fans, so you cant even see em! I reckon they're great. -
For Those With Autronic Ecu's; Some Help Please
Shaun replied to Shaun's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah, ill post the results for sure! Im hoping for around 350rwkw, but having said that i dont care that much about a power figure; just as long as its nice to drive and usable on the road. Im not sure what sensor ive got. I think its a Bosch one, so i hope it works the way i want it to. Ive spoken to the tuner at length about running closed loop, and i bought it off him, so im assuming its suitable. Ill definately be getting the plugs back too! Shaun. -

Im not sure what my fuel comsumption is like yet; i just trailered the car to the tuners today. It'll be interesting to find out though. Can you run closed loop on the SMC? I bought the wide band oxy sensor so i can run closed loop on the SM4. Ive got 700cc injectors and standard cams at the moment. Just a side note; the tuner just rang me up and told me that my Iraway 7 spark plugs ($180) were fowled beyond repair. I did fowl the plugs on start up the other night, but i removed them and burnt off the carbon etc with a gas torch. It then started perfectly. Is it possible to ruin plugs by fowling them with over rich mixtures? I understand that the car may not start, but would the plugs be stuffed beyond repair? Ive only started the car about 10 times on those plugs! Thanks, Shaun. -

Yep, for those wondering the same thing, the Belkin adapter works too! I just had to change to com port 8 under settings so the V DASH program would recognise the USB connection. I love Autronics!! Shaun. -

Thanks for the info, but where would i get the 'Belikn' or 'aten' adapters? Just Dick Smith or any main stream electrical store like that, or are they more specialised than that? Cheers, Shaun. -

Thanks for the info guys! As you all say, its an awesome computer; im really happy with it. Ill get the adapter then. I was just trying to save some coin thats all. Ill also keep you all posted on the results of the tune. Thanks, Shaun. -
GDay, Ive got an Autronic SM4 on my R32 and was a bit dissappointed to discover that the lead that you plug into the serial port of your lap top is one of the older 9 pin plugs and isnt compatable with my new lap top. I was just wondering if any of the Autronic guru's out ther have come up with a solution for this, as ive heard that Autronic havent updated to a newer serial port plug. Is this true? Ive also heard that the '9 pin serial port to USB adapter' that you can buy from Dick Smith etc ($80!!) is notoriously unreliable and doesnt work with all computers. Can you get the lead modified at all, or is it not that simple? Anyway, any help would be appreciated, as i really want to use my V DASH software and the data logging stuff on my new lap top. The car is getting tuned next week after being off the road for two years! Thanks, Shaun.

Jun 2.7l Stroker Build Underway (hks T04z)
Shaun replied to StageZilla's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Specific workshop slandering aside, i think Brad is doing an excellent job in having a go and doing it himself. I also get extremely annoyed at people who denegrate those who are attemping to learn by 'doing'. Ive had people laugh at my misfortune relating to spun bearings in an RB26 engine that i put in my car, saying "well thats what you get when you do it yourself!" Many of these people, however, struggle to change their oil and they can "manage" their projects as much as they want, but its never the same as actually getting in there and learning while doing. As for the excessive time frames involved in getting anything done by many workshops; well we've all been there im sure. Unfortunately this is just part of the industry in many cases. My build has taken 2 years and counting, mainly due to this very reason. Anyway, keep it up Brad. I like that you seem to be an enthusiast and dont appear to be trying to prove anything like its a competition. Of course, it would have been nice to have read all the posts but Ashley clearly goes about his duties in a biased and unproffessional manner that is not limited to the Forced Induction section. -
That was great! We want more!

Shane, My oversight in properly tightening the bolts on the cam gears would have had no effect on the tune what so ever. Its not like the cam gears were turning independantly to the cams. Indeed; if this were the case, the engine would not run. If you had worked on an RB26 you would know this. And anyway, Jon (apparently) dialled in the cams, so if they were loose, i assume he would have rectified the problem, thus improving the tune. This, sadly did not happen and the car was a dog. In fact, i didnt even know they were loose while at RX Engineering; Jon didnt tell me this. Anyway, all thats history now and a lesson learnt; such is life. We are mates, and i dont want to make it sound like im attacking you or Jon (that saga was mainly my fault im sure), but The whole Microtech thing just does not work well on 6 throttle GTR's. And yes, we should catch up. My car should be ready soon. Its been almost 2 years! Are you married yet? Emma and i bought a house too! Shaun.

Shaun replied to Shaun's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Sorry man, not overly negotiable on price; i'd rather keep em if it meant selling them for too much less than $300. Shipping would be a pain in the arse too. The photos actually make the rims look much worse than they are too. Especially the dinged one. -
What the fcuk does that mean? I dont get it? Anyway, its good that youre stoked with your microtech. I had one on my Rb20 for about 3 years and it was good too. But my experience with them on an Rb26 was less than perfect; and thats an understatement. Im sure it was a combination of many things (ie, the tuner etc) but its left a bad taste in my mouth. Having dealt with an Autronic SM4 recently, however, has proven to me how good things can be. But im sure if you spend enough time on any set up it can be good. I still dont get the log-in name thing. Is your name shaun too?? Maybe i missed something.

Yeah, no tyres. Another dude is interested in them, yes. But he certainly hasnt said he'll buy them. He's letting me know tomorrow. Shaun. -
Shane, sorry man, i dont mean any disrespect and i know Jon is a good bloke and excelent rotary tuner, but he tuned my Microtech LTX12 controlled R33 GTR engine with multiple throttles, and it turned out shit. It was worse than shit. It was shitty shit shit! It idled between 600 and 2000 rpm, drove terribly, and made (get this) 209kw at the rears at about 12 pound boost! That would be funny if he didnt charge me so much! It was a terrible experience.
-
^^^^^ What he said ^^^^^ Shane, admit it. Microtechs are crap on multiple throttle set ups. Even Jon warned me about it but nooooo, i didnt listen.

GDay, I just bought 4 R32 GTR rims, and i only need two of them because i'll be using them as drag rims. Theyre in good nick, the only blemishes on them are a minor ding on the outside lip of one, and about 2 inches of gutter rash on the other. No marks or paint off the centre of the rims at all. Anyway, here's some pics. Im asking $300 firm. Its a good price for R32 GTR rims. Im on the Central Coast, but work in North Sydney. 0414972596 Shaun.

Hi Brad, I didnt know that you organised pick up of two directly from Richard. Anyway, if you want the other two, theyre yours. Sorry for any inconvienience. Ill PM you pics today. Shaun.
