  1. I'd imagine everyone gets it from the missus. God bless them, only my missus could put up with my temper when working on cars.
  2. Im going to rebuild my current engine. Ive decided to get a second engine so i can take my time and do it properly. That being said, i still dont want a bodgy replacement motor I wish i was a patient person, cant stand not being able to drive the thing.
  3. Im looking for a good quality ss manifold for my rb20det. Must be t3 flange and leave dump etc in factory position. cheers, Tim
  4. Thanks for your reply lads, anyone know what compression readings would be on a new rb20?
  5. Im currently considerig buying another rb20, the compression results the seller gave me are as follws... 1-130 2-135 3-130 4-130 5-130 6-135 Is it just me or are these numbers a bit low. Im not worried about the difference seen in no2 and 6. I just thought a healthy engine should show compression of maybe 150 - 160? Although seller assures me these number are spot on? test was done on a warm engine Thanks for your time, Tim
  6. ''Should I check all cylinders?'' Yeah, i would Also, get a VRS kit from nissan, which is what youll need, head gasket, manifold gaskets etc. I got one recently but bugger if i remember what i paid for it, ring nissan for a quote
  7. Head gasket can be done with block still in the car no worries. Its a bitch of a job, not that its hugely difficult but it can quickly snowball when you find you have to replace things(which is a good thing really) worst part of it all is getting the exhaust manifold off without snapping bolts. good chance to do timing belt while your there good luck, tim
  8. pics of what, theres a lot of big pics there
  9. Nothing wrong with the old cortinas either! Ive thrashed a few, pretty hard to blow up a 250 crossflow
  10. I was impressed with my first ride in a vl turbo. Had a 5 speed, no intercooler, bov, boost set at 10psi. Love the torque of the 3litre. I picked up an r31 with an auto a couple of months ago as a run around, must say for a car with 340,000km its surprisingly bloody reliable. So far ive only got good things to say about the old one cam 3 litre.
  11. Pics are being sent, anyone else want pics leave your email. Model number on the turbo is 45v2 intercooler overall size is 460x300x60
  12. Pics will be taken tonight and model numbers etc. Cillham, id imagine the 90 degree bend might be called an elbow? dunno.
  13. I ran 12 psi through it without issue. Never put any more through it although it is my understanding the person i got it off was running 15 on an rb20 for some time without problems either. I will get full dimensions and pics for you. Tim

  16. Daniel, pm sent
  17. Good morning all After pulling down my 20 ive realised its in need of a rebuild. Ive done some searching on the forums for engine builders in SE QLD but cant find anything other than generic workshops. Can anyone put me onto a reputable workshop who build tough reliable rb's? Any help much appreciated Cheers Tim
  18. my rb20 was making the same whistling sound. It was an exhaust gasket. Would only happen at certain revs, very annoying. the gasses play the gasket like a reid .DOnt know which gasket it was as there were a few gone. Check them like Geoff said. It should be pretty obvious if its leaking that bad
  19. hit it with petrol or degreaser. put your hands over the end tanks and shake the shite out of it. do it a few times then use a compressor to blow it out if youve got one. Run the hose through it before you blow it out if you want.
  20. Theres also cam seals at the front. If your sure its the top end buy a VRS kit from nissan for 250 odd and a tube of liquid gasket for 20. has cam seals, rocker cover gaskets etc. Sometimes the half circle looking seals at the back of the covers leaks, hit it with liquid gasket. You can do the whole lot for 300 in a weekend with the extra 500 you saved get yourself adjustable cam gear.
  21. Hope they replaced all the manifold studs. I had to easy out 5 studs when i did mine a few weeks ago, couldnt get the drill at one of them cause the zeds engine bay is so tight with the rb20. I am now in the process of removing the head just to get a stud out. Now ive found some farkstick has stripped a head stud, oh the joys of home mechanics. in short, my advice is replace all manifold studs just for peace of mind. bout 3 bucks a pop from nissan. Get a can of penetrant or similar and spray each nut the night before. Other than that its just luck of the draw. Good Luck
  22. predator i have the same problem, Oil collecting around the bellhousing and sump. I have a feeling its making its way down from the motor in my case. Best thing to do if you have time is degrease the whole shite show and track it down.
  23. they wouldnt ask twice about an rb30
