bad news lads. Talked with repco today who talked to gem engines. apparently no one in the country(from that company) has ever rebuilt an rb20det. best they could offer is a strip and quote. said off the top of his head id be looking at about 4g. no exchange service available. think i might give them a miss. i dont want them playing 'pioneers' with my motor. i sent redlands an email ages ago-no reply

thanks for the offer. I already have one in the zed but i think its on the way out. Instead of farking around with lucky dip wrecker engines i thought id look around for a reco one, guess not.

theres a business opportunity for some one, import rebuilds.

how much power is it making? I emailed Exedy asking what they could offer me for an rb20det, had to hold at least 200rwkw etc. They suggested their sports organic kit, part number NSK-7056SO. The max torque rating on this clutch at 7000 rpm is 393 ft/lb at the flywheel, max 524 hp or 391 kw also at the flywheel. Unless your trying to hold a whole lot of power, this kit might be worth a look. goodluck Tim

Hi everyone Ive been planning to do some engine work on the zed, i even got all the parts, gasketss etc to do the job. looks like me n the missus are moving house now so im looking at getting someone to do it for me. Instead of piss farting around i want someone to drop a low km secondhand motor in maybe get a new clutch in while im at it. Can anyone recommend a reputable shop who will do this for me. dont want to travel to far, so anywhere on the south coast QLD would be ideal. Thanks in advance Tim :burnout:

Hi all Unfortunately its time for me too sell the Z to fund a work vehicle. heres a rundown Nissan 280zx 1982. 2+2 T-tops -White/red interior. -R32 RB20DET motor and 5 speed. Gearbox reconditioned probably 100km ago. Has hardly been driven since rebuild. receipts still under warranty. -New low kings springs and KYB excelG shocks all round. have receipts -New tierods and ball joints. -New Open hemispehere work done by aussie diffs in currumbin- recepits -Blitz computer -Frount mount cooler -RB25 turbo. also have new hybrid R34GT-T/HKS 2530 B/B turbo. Built by GCG turbos good for 350hp. all accessories to fit. New HKS adjustable wastegate actuator. Earls braided oil lines. gaskets etc -Everything need to fit. can include for extra $ -Custom 3inch dump with split screamer pipe. -GTR fuel pump -Malpassi adj' fuel regulator -pneumatic boost controller -HKS Pod filter -Catchcan -Original Z alloys, roadworthy rubber. - T-Tops work fine, no leaks. interior is good cond for 20 year old car- dash has a few small cracks slight fading on trim etc. Boost guage mounted in chrome cup on dash/matching tacho no installed. few other small tweaking things. -Power windows/mirrors/steering -Clarion 6 stacker and head unit - THINGS NEEDED- If i was to keep the car this was what i was going to do. - cam to CAS key has broken.(no damage to motor) still runs and drives although will not hold timing properly. I can supply cam free of charge. All it needs is a new Exhaust cam fitted and all will be fine. Price of required parts. new cam-free VRS kit from nissan(head gasket, manifold gaskets, stem seals, cam seals, rocker gaskets, turbo to manifold gaskets all included.) quoted 260. So i would say if purchasing the car if you kept aside an extra 500 to 1000 you would have a sorted quick zed. I will add other things as i remember them -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- asking price- $7,500 ono. Hi, Im chasing a rebuilt RB20DET complete bottom end(fan to flywheel). unfortunately im currently not in the position where i can rebuild my current bottom end or buy another to rebuild. I will consider rebuilds to factory specs to ones with forgies etc. Let me know in this thread or by pm what you have! thanks for your time, Tim

an early zed would be a great option but they are expensive.....plus you wouldnt have the heart to kill it once youd completed the conversion. what about an s12 gazelle? that would be different. Id love to see a conversion other than rotors and BP series engines in an old rwd mazda 323. thats power to weight. look through the trading post for cheap models such as those mentioned that will accomodate your motor. depends on how far you want to go with it. If you want fun find the smallest rwd car you can find and start cutting. gemini,corolla perhaps?
