Based off the number plates being SA, and the Road name in the background, Google tells me it's located in Tepko, SA. North of Murray Bridge. -

For Sale - 1996 R33 Gts-T [Qld]
James51 replied to copycutter's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Very clean car! Had many a ride in this thing and it's just awesome. Puts the power down and its nice and linear. GL with sale! -
Absolutely. The worst thing you can do is buy another "It'll do" kind of car (almost did that with a WRX I got an exemption for, god am I glad I didn't!) Keep an eye on Yahoo Auctions and some other Japanese auction websites. Familiarize yourself with good importers, the process and what to look for as well as what kind of money to put aside for it. If you can afford it earlier, by all means go for it. If you're not doing the work yourself, You'll find a lot of garages will do things cheaper for you if you allow them to do it in their down time (I.e. take a month to install XYZ rather than 2 days, You're in no rush anyway and it's free storage!). Just make sure it's a garage you trust. I'm lucky some close friends of mine are great (understated) mechanics. They're happy to get the stuff I want done within the timeframe and hold onto the car for me until I need it. It's also nice for other customers to have something to gawk at when they come in

Huh. Didnt know it had been that long. I have friends 2 / 3 years older than me that tell me they didnt have any of these rules when they were on their ps. I do live in qld though so maybe we adopted it later? Im originally from the uk so it all seems over the top to me though.

I've been in a similar boat mate for the last couple of years. End of the day, without taking major risks its not feasible. I'm not willing to risk my licence over it, I enjoy driving too much. I'm on the home straight now, 2 months until I get my opens. I'm going through the purchase of my new car this week (rb26 S15). My plan for the next 2 months is to work on it every chance I get, however I'm not doing power mods - I'm doing reliability/safety mods (oil returns, catch can, baffled sump, oil pump, braided lines, brakes, alarm etc.). The biggest thing to realize in our situation is that no matter how good a driver of your current P plate car you are, if we go and build an all-singing all-dancing beast of a car for the moment we get our opens that car is going to bite us in the ass at some point. The last thing I want to see is this car damaged because I wasn't a good enough driver to handle it. It'll devastate you emotionally and financially. This car has had work, but I'm purposely going to be running waste gate level boost until I get used to the car (estimating 3-6 months of daily driving), and then slowly creep it up to what it's currently running as and when I feel I can deal with it. Only then will I look at power upgrades. I expect that process to take 1-2 years. Everyone here wants a nice car, and the frustration of being legally told you cannot drive the car you want to is something a lot of people here wouldn't understand (it's very easy to say "wait wait wait" when you've not been in the situation yourself) and honestly it makes you want it more. That in mind, May 8th (opens day) is going to roll around for me, and it's going to be a fantastic day finally being able to drive this car. TL;DR - Don't be discouraged by everyone telling you you're going to wrap your car around a tree, just be sensible about the whole process, don't go and hop into a 400HP car as soon as you get off your Ps. Educate yourself as much as possible and try to keep yourself busy with quality of life / reliability / safety mods, rather than go-faster mods. From my experience you'll gain a lot more respect and positive opinions from people on forums taking this route.

Ever Caught Someone Admiring Your Car?
James51 replied to comarcus93's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I've had a couple of similar situations. I left Sushi train once and had a woman admiring the car, asking what it was (Debaged Supra in Gunmetal). She was very disappointed when I told her it was a Toyota. I've been deso driver a few times at my local, which has a big balcony that's usually packed. After leaving there every time I'm serenaded by "Do a skid!" "Do a burn out". Of which I pull out as slow as possible much to everyone's disgust. I once started talking to a couple of people at the same pub on the balcony, and they had started talking about who the hell could own a car like that and come to a bar like this. I let them continue for a while until I explained it was mine, and they didn't believe me until I got into the car to leave. All that over a 10k N/A supra. -
Haven't been able to take a look yet! It's booked in for a full mechanical inspection next Wednesday with Mercury prior to finalizing the sale.

R33 Gtr Vspec - Forged Engine
James51 replied to Adz2332's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
His profile location is Adelaide. I'd guess its in the same location. -
^^ S15 You got the VIN for the R33 GTR? Could help narrow it down if it's a N1 Version. Thanks very much! Unfortunately I don't have the VIN from the R33. The RB26 is sat in that S15 chassis offer made and accepted today subject to mechanical inspection! Soooooooon

Can you fast non-skyline Nissan VINS? Namely an S15? 6U900000S15019653 Also, can anyone help me with an RB26 engine number? I've been hunting around and found a source but this doesn't match them! Its supposedly from an R33 but I was trying to find out what year. RB26065541A Edit: It's just occurred to me, they probably made more than 2000 engines within 1997, so this would point to the engine being from a 1997 R33 V Spec? Series 3 GTR 3rd February 1997 (Xenon Headlights) (V-Spec) N1 Version Released: 3rd February 1997 R33 1997 Feb RB26-063xxx

Compliance For 240Z
James51 replied to nltd's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Pretty sure you have free rein with engine swaps. In QLD you do, as long as you meet power/weight requirements / engineering requirements, you don't have to meet emissions standards for a pre-197(3?) car? As for compliance, I didn't think there was an awful lot that needed to be done for a car of this age? I could be wrong, but I was looking into doing a 1J 240z, and the legislation side of things isn't a bother here, its just getting it engineered. -

Help!, Car Does Not Turn Off After Switching Keys Off
James51 replied to Elegant Skyline's topic in General Maintenance
30 seconds exactly? Considering you're new to the forums, have you just bought the car? It sounds like there's a turbo timer installed. -
Thanks for the replies guys. If anyone else has any weigh ins, I'd be interested to hear them.
-
So to confirm they stripped it of all fluids for compliance and weighed it in at 1520? Interesting... 34s have a 70l fuel tank right?
-
Yeah I guess so. Just a decent fmic would add a bit compared with stock.
-
Where does this 'drastic' weight gain come from? Brakes are typically supposed to save weight... bigger turbos and more fuel pumps would add a bit etc. but I wouldn't have thought this much? or is the factory specified 1540/1560 under-estimating it, like their factory '205KW'
-
Hey guys, I've tried searching on this but all I can find are copy pastes from Wikipedia. Has anyone actually weighed their BNR34 before? I've found varying information online. Wikipedia says 1540/1560KG curb weight for GTR/Vspec respectively, however FastestLaps says 1666KG curb weight. Just interested to see if anyone has actually weighed theirs, and what it comes out to. As this is curb weight it obviously includes a full tank of fuel / oils etc. Everything except the driver. If this information is somewhere that I've missed, and I just really really really suck at searching please point me in the right direction and lock this thread! P.s. hope you all had fun at SAU Nats, looked like a great weekend!

Thank you! Much appreciated!
