  1. Duc, I drove a family friends RX8 a couple of years ago, he was tossing up between a 350Z but couldn't get it up his steep driveway. :)

It's no Skyline as far as performance but damn was it smooth, revs beautifully, and the looks are just killer IMHO.

There's actually a black one for sale at my work. No idea how much though.

  2. There's minimum weight, certification, and age requirements for the extinguisher.

I can't remember the exact details but my mate just got his from KMart. We pulled every single one out of it's box to see which was the furthest from expiry.

As for mounting it just has to be hard mounted to something solid, some people use wear the seat rail anchor to the floor on their passenger seat, etc.

  3. Anyone remember SCS @ Collingrove last year?

There was a bloke in some old Holden who tried to get on to the burnout pad with a leaf blower hooked up to his carbie! :) Unsurprisingly he failed scrutineering.

  4. spotted Ash in his 32 cruising along Anzac this arvo around 2pm on my way home from golf. Saw him too late to beep or wave

 I was on my way to the Glenelg Food & Wine Festival.

But about a hour earlier I spotted EGG on my car, some little f**ks musta hit it, while it was parked outside the GF's place in Unley Park.

  5. Yeah, i haven't signed a new permanent contract yet, but it's all but certain I'm in SA permanent now. Which is why I've started thinking more permanent thoughts.

Oh and Darren is right, under the scenario i outlined, it'd be purely as an investment, with little or no intention of ever living there.

  6. After a short conversation with Darren last night I thought I'd resurrect this thread.

My situation is this, I'm debt free and I have a not so insignificant amount of money going spare, at the moment it's sitting in an ING account.

So in real terms it's not doing anything, just keeping up with inflation, but at least it's not going backwards.

Frankly it's burning a hole in my pocket, I've toyed with the idea of blowing it on a car, but I really should put it to work.

Buying a first house is the obvious option, however, I'm pretty happy with my current life-style and have little interest in being a slave to my mortgage.

Another is the stock market, higher returns, far more liquid, but obviously a higher associated risk and the time/stress overheads of managing it.

Closely related to that is using a Managed Fund, less return (fees), hopefully slightly less risk, but much more of a "set and forget".

But coming back to real-estate, another option I hadn't considered, was buying a first home with no intention of moving in, but to rent it out, continuing to rent myself where I am currently. And I guess it was this strategy I was hoping to get you "Property Types" opinions on, but feel free to comment on any of the above, and/or other options open to me.

Oh and let me state, I'm fully aware of, and understand, that anything you say shouldn't be taken as "financial advise", "contact a professional", etc, etc.

Just hit me with your considered opinions please.

    Cheers,

    - Ash.

  7. Friday's no good for me as I've got a work BBQ, so it's tonight, or the weekend. I'll be helping the missus move house, but I'll be in the area, as she's moving not too far from me.

Oh and I can lend you a breaker bar and speed brace along with the right socket for wheel nuts too. Should make the job quicker if you can both do tyre changes at the same time. With enough practice we might even shape you in to the SAU-SA pit crew. :)

  8. Sam, you just need the Strut Tops, and bump stops if you didn't get new ones thru the group buy, so you should widen your search to incl. any blown shockers too.

Also if you need car stands, i have a pair you can borrow, and Darren has a pair too which I'm sure he's willing to lend you.

And you'll need spring compressors to take apart the stock susp. if you don't have them, you can borrow mine :O

  9. Spotted 3 'lines on the way to work this morning.

#1 Wine Red R33, with 2 young blokes onboard and Qld plates, following me up Fullarton Rd.

#2 Black R32, good looking blondie driving, turning right in to North Tce by the wine centre.

#3 Silver R33, no front bar, turning right from Regency Rd on to Main North Rd.

  10. An ex-resident of KI told me, that in peak season the local hire car company gets a vehicle written off EVERY day, and most Adelaide companies specifically exclude KI from their insurance cover.

The roads are supposedly appalling, marble-like gravel everywhere, and very slippery. :s
