My 89 R32 has no side indicators, but it's been in the country for a fair while.

Superglue slowly dissolves in water, even though water helps it set quicker, so if you can soak the part that'll get rid of it. And it's a whole lot safer than slopping solvents around.

Is it boosted? If you're running stock ECU it can run a little rich. How's your fuel economy? If it's completely gone to shit it could be your O2 sensor.

A CAI will likely do 10x more good than a filter change and probably cost less. But you need to find out just what REALLY is the restriction in the system and not blindly "upgrade" something coz it's "cool" esp. when chances are you're filling your engine with dust. But if you want to put in a <insert brand name here> filter and put on the sticker to go with it (I hear they add power too) then who am I to stop you?

Loosen it too much and it'll leak at idle (no pressure), hence the hunting, or open under too little boost.

Technically with the extra air volume in the system your from the larger/longer piping and IC itself the wastegate will be act slower to act if plumbed in as you have. Have you noticed any boost spikes on your gauge since you installed it? If not then it's probably gonna be fine, otherwise best shift it.

K&N flow so well because they don't filter shit and the oil fouls up your AFM if you're not careful. Get a Pipercross if you have to, but air filters are pretty much wank, there's a lot more things you can do to your car before you'll get a noticeable difference from the $12 Nissan item.
