  1. Old thread - but on the same sort of trend. Rb25 running GCG turbo. Been getting some knock - though not very consistent. 18psi (tailing to 16psi). Made 247rwkw. Was getting readings of 90-100 knock around 5000rpm - 6000rpm under full throttle. Pulled 2 degrees out of most of those cells. These were load point 16 (using z32 afm). Most of those around around 15 deg advance now. Just lately noticed some knock around 4000rpm in 3rd and sometimes 2nd. I've pulled out about 3 deg around that zone. When it's at 3500-3700prm it's at load point 16 so I've only altered load point 15 and 16 around that zone. I've also pulled 1 deg out of a few cells close by in case it's passing through there. Thing was it wasn't pinging on the dyno. Don't know if it's just mechanical noise or what. Thought it might be a bad batch of petrol but it's been on 2 tanks now, and it has always had the tendancy to flash the check engine light (knock oer 60) every now and then (not consistently). Can somebody post their ign map with similar mods - would like to see if mine was a bit agressive. Around 5000rpm it had about 16 deg previously going up to 20 deg at 6800rpm. Dyno was done in summer about 27 deg, would think now being cooler would not be an issue at all.. All ignition no.'s in the attached are before touching the tune myself, the negatives are the corrections I have made (I have made more since), to bring a lot of load point 16 no's back to ignition advance values of 14 or 15.. 2. Thats a huge amount of timing in the low load cells..i.e in the 50 deg vicinity. I know Guilt toy mentioned not to go over 38 deg anywhere in the map due to increase in cyl temps. Was that BS or not. I know mine could handle a lot more timing in the top left corner 10x10 but I havent as yet.
  3. Get the nissan stuff - UAS has it. About $70/metre though. I used about 0.5 metre I think.. Otherwise I think Nissan has it in 1m lengths. It has blue writing on it and feels different to other hose. Feels more flexible. I dont think it has uv rating but like you say can handle fuel on the outside. Mackay sell some but I dont think it is EFi rated.
  4. yep - I had a vg30 highflow on my 25 and I swapped it for a 25highflow. on a 3Lt the vg30 highflow would be good.
  5. Hey - I've done this on an rb25. Can't say that was a fun job either. Check out the thread. I got some cheap ratchet spanners which helped a lot. Still gashed my hand open though.. If you're undoing real stubborn bolts underneath be sure to place a rag between your hand and the next solid object for when you crack the bolt/nut http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/In...ml&hl=boost
  6. Atleast it's driveable I guess. Can buy sometime before/if you decide to rebuid or replace it. Good achievement doing it yourself! Is it your daily driver?
  7. Hey Liz - how is your car going? Any updates. Hope it is ok. My car now has a new 90 deg silicon joiner to replace this one. This is the one that heads down to the FMIC near where the std intercooler used to bolt up. The FMIC kits usually dont give you this one..but they should. I got the 2.5" piece from ebay for $27 delivered to replace it.. I will be using super dot 4 brake fluid next time also - and keeping a better eye on the water temp Pretty keen to get out there again. Will be a bit more prepared next time - although something else will probably blow..
  8. Dont ignore the vg30 = lag comment. I have first hand experience. Sure you can tune some of this and play with exh cam timing to help. I had the gcg high flow with the rear vg30 housing. I swapped it for a rb25 housing and I'm much happier.
  9. vg30 rear will be laggy. Bush bearing also. 2 negatives.
  10. SK, did you see my question above?
  11. anyone? Cheers Piece from cat to rear muffler mild steel please with resonator, or centre muffler
  12. Hey Liz, Glad you finally got home! I got home and problems aren't too bad. As I went out after saying goodbye to you the car was fully stuttering and wasnt going to make it - so I had to pull back in and take the intercooler hose and joiner off and rebuild/bodgy up the joiner with 1/2 a roll of duct tape. I could still hear air wooshing from it as soon as I came near boost up the few hills. Good luck with yours - is that your daily driver? I've got my Grandmas astina complete with sheepskin seat covers and massive cancer council wrap around sunnies on loan till I get a 90 deg silicone bend
  13. nice pics you got of Chris there Michele. Wish you got a little clip of him trying to get in your car (was going to say cockpit then but that sounds so wrong) - that was funny to watch. Had the old arm wobble going (like me on a bench press with little weight Still thinking ive got issues: 1.24 with semis (2nd hand though) and 240+rwkw!
  14. Are you guys heel and toeing . When shifting down to 2nd I always get some compression lock up because I'm not matching the revs. What do you do when downshifting?
  15. Gee - poor Liz. So she left an oil slick from wakey into town so people can drift a bit on their way home hehehe thats nice of her.. Hope she sorts it - bit of bad luck. Ive got to get some better brake fluid and a new silicon joiner which blew apart. Hows this... lost brakes and then car stopped boosting (all at same time) whilst coolant temp hit about 120 deg and coolant started boiling! Thought id fcked everything. Dodgy duct tape on the joiner got me home. Could hear air escaping as soon as I looked like hitting boost Cant believe the best I could get was 1.24! Im reading non turbo silvias doing 1.24s. I've got almost 250rwkw.. Geez I must be bad. 1.14 is a really good time chris! Check this out http://www.themaseraticlub.com/CMA_Newslet...0(04_Track).pdf
  16. how much fuel you usually use on a trackie? half a tank or more? Heard there isnt any 98 down there
  17. they came out with a range of different turbs. TD04L, TD04 and TD05. The earlier rexies (I think) had the td05 then they put in the td04L so it was more responsive (less lag). I dont know if the sti ever had the td05...but Im pretty sure they usually use the vf series..
  18. anybody know if you can get vpower racing down near goulburn?
  19. 1 bar at 2250! thats handy. Is that a gcg highflow? Is that because it's auto? What gear? On tuned rb25det gcg highflow: Mine gets 14psi by about 2700rpm but that's in 5th. Gets 14psi by about 3100rpm in 4th. 3rd gear is about 3600rpm. 2nd gear 3800rpm. I would like to get it coming on a bit earlier in 2nd but the load isn't as high to get the turbo spinning up. It is pretty responsive but i know that the stock turbo used to spin up to 11psi by about 3000rpm in 2nd whereas with the highflow it's about 3500rpm.
  20. so did the exh cam gear help response much?
  21. nice! Chris mate!! Should be bloody good. All on that's for sure. Is the evo guy alright? I hope it doesn't rain. I've got a 1/2 worn set of semi slicks to try out. You should be allowed to run those right?
  22. im heading down also. What happened in the last big crash down there?
  23. Yeah but your sucking in hot air with cutting an extra hole...unless you route air to that hole which I guess could be done. Cheers
  24. But you can get a safe 190-200rwkw out of the SMIC (limit of stock turbs). Maybe if you do a lot of track days FMIC is the way, but for street driven 99% of the time R34 cooler = cheaper, better response + less hacking to your car. May sacrifice 5-10kw of peak power but depends on your goals.
