How Do You Check The Health Of Your Coil Packs ?

Adriano that sounds a little dangerous. Make sure the pliers are insulated but I wouldn't recommend this. There is so much Voltage around this area! Could seriously hurt you -
Ball Bearing Turbos - Noise On Shutdown?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thanks fellas - couldn't hear it with the stockie so wondered if it was in fact "normal". -
Is it normal for about 3 seconds after engine shutdown to hear what sounds like air escaping around the turbo? I was thinking maybe it is the turbo shaft and impellers slowing down. Even if you idle for a while then shutdown it still does it. I think all the air is out of the cooling system. CHeers

Tapping Sound Coming From Engine
benl1981 replied to r33_nikolas's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I dont think trimming the fan blades should cause this problem. -
Grigor knows his stuff. For an extra $50 don't risk it. There is a difference and if it starts leaking because of the one bolt hole you will be massively pissed and not be a happy chappy

Efi Fuel Hose For In-tank Applications
benl1981 replied to Spoolup's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Any luck mate. I would like to get the 1m from Mackay! -
Well I just tested the pump for a couple of seconds without fuel. It sounds really quiet out of the car. (At first I had the hose connected and metal pipe connected - it was noisy then). So I think it must be the way it is sitting in there. My new pump GTR has about a 2mm thick rubber sleeve aroud it so I think Iwill leave that on and see if I can position it better. Anyone else got tips on which way to bend the bracket etc. Very fiddly job. It is really tight in there. There seems hardly enough room to have any gap the whole way round the pump and the relief valve piece at the top. It seems inevitable that it will touch the tank. I'm thinking this might be the reason so many people complain of noisy pumps. WOnder if the sedan fuel tank is different
-
They aren't fussy. In all the cars Ive owned Ive never had a faulty pump and often topped up with any auto fluid lying around. Most people never change the fluid. Its a good idea to take out as much as you can and replace with fresh fluid. My pump at one point was making heaps of noise but I think it was just low on fluid and some air got in. Topped it up - turned the steering wheel side to side 10 or so times with the reservior cap open and all the bubbles came out. Its been fine over a year later. Compared to an auto transmission the job the power steer system does isn't nearly as severe on the fluid ..

Positioning Gtr Pump Into R33gtst Tank
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah man - no its been noisy since. It does slot in properly but Im just afraid its going to still be touching the tank at some point and causing extra noise. Will keep trying until I get it quiet I guess. -
Positioning Gtr Pump Into R33gtst Tank
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
So you didn't even cable tie it? I cut off the base of the bracket. Did you? I might just cable tie the pump. The hose clamp is a bit of a pain. Do you have much trouble getting the lid back on with the seal in there? My new seal is busted now. Was swollen as soon as I oopened it. It might be because there was a hole in a fuel line that could have let some air in I guess?? -
Efi Fuel Hose For In-tank Applications
benl1981 replied to Spoolup's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ive had trouble getting the 1m from Mackay. They only seem to want to sell a 20m roll to the suppliers. I evencalled Mackay and they said that was the case. If you find something different let me know. If you can find a shop that stocks it that would be sweet as you could buy just 1m or less. Mackay said Bursons stock it but rang seven hills and none in stock (in whole of syd I think he said) Gates do 30cm lengths (Need little more in the GTST fuel tanks.. Might go to UAS and get 1/2 a metre there (unique autosport) -
Positioning Gtr Pump Into R33gtst Tank

Thanks silverbullet - so it is possible I have a sedan - I wonder if the tank is the same. Here is a pic. DO you have any pics of yours in the tank silver? I can slot it in ok just seems like it will definately interfere with the tank somewhere. PS> Phot was taken before I slotted the bracket right in. ALSO - Other question regarding hose clamps on the 8mm Fuel line. The clamps I got are new versions of the factory screw up clamps. However even if I tighten them right up you can still rotate the hose by hand on the fitting if you turn fairly had. I thought they would clamp with more pressure - Is this normal though. The clamps I used were similar but not quite as robust looking as the one pictured -
Just trying to tweak the position of my GTR pump so it doesnt sound like a hive of bees. It is really tight in there. There seems hardly enough room to have any gap the whole way round the pump and the relief valve piece at the top. It seems inevitable that it will touch the tank. I'm thinking this might be the reason so many people complain of noisy pumps. Is it just a matter of bending the bracket and hopefully leaving like 1 or 2mm around the pump - though it could rock back and forth that much! I have rotated the pump and tried to bend the bracket a bit. Anyone have any trade secrets??!

Noise From Tomei And Gtr Fuel Pumps?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Cheers Birnie. I have the new GTR one ready to go in though. I would have to wait for the Tomei. I had a closer look - I reckon they are actually the same pumps. Has anyone taken off the rubber on the Tomei and seen what is underneath? Whereabouts are you now Birnie? You still coming down to Syd? Thanks for the offer. -
There's 15 is there?!! - Is that including power steer etc? I did all the coolant hoses on a rav4 recently. I think there was about 5 hoses all up. Maybe some of the smaller hoses you can just use standard hose and cable tie it to rigid parts to give it the shape. I didn't think there were that many in the R33 I got all the rav4 hoses for about $70 or $80. Check http://www.mackayrubber.com.au/all-catalogues.htm Can order through the other link in my previous post.

Noise From Tomei And Gtr Fuel Pumps?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Anyone know? -
Just about to fix up the install of my noisy GTR fuel pump into R33 GTST. It's wierd mine is the same noise at idle and reving. You can notice it hissing very loudly at idle but once driving you cant hear it so much cause of wind noise and exhaust etc. Most say there is a dual voltage on them so at idle it is quiet. I cant see any changes to the wiring etc. Also considering going a Tomei. Just wondering if the both pumps should sound about the same if mounted correctly? If so I will stick to the GTR pump. I see a lot of threads about noisy GTR pumps. From what I can see they are virtually the same pumps (Tomei and GTR) but mounted differently? cheers

If youre going to get the fuel reg (instead of injectors) I recommend you replace all the high pressure fuel hoses. Cheap insurance.
-
Think I've found a good supplier. I want to get the hose that meets the SAE 30R9 rating. Some of these cheap hoses seem a little dodge.
-
Mate the pumps arent that fussy. As long as you get Dexron III Auto fluid that on the back says its compatible with power steering systems you should be right. If you want to be thorough you could pull the return line at the reservior and let that empty into a container as you keep topping it up with fresh stuff. But I wouldnt bother. If you can empty your reservoir - either syrninge or other then just top it up you should be right. EASIEST and what I would do. Go down to supercheap get some castrol dexron III auto trans fluid (1L) for $9.50 and top up

Just had a look in supercheap. Their EFI hose is also this codan brand and only got SAE 30R7 on it!! Are they incorrectly markering this as EFI hose?

www.gimmecarparts.com.au Contact James. I got the upper and lower rad hoses for about $60 Nothing wrong with the Nulon green stuff. I get the concentrate 5L for about $35. If you want to be anal you can get distilled water. I just use tap water and do roughly 40% coolant to 60% water.
