What Spring Compressors Do You Use?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hey guys - thanks. I just borrowed some from my local mechanic - so heopefully won't injure myself!! -
Along the lines of what BHDAVE was saying. Had a Toyota alternator that wasn't charging. Voltage below 12V I replaced the brushes as they had just worn down so much (van had done 280k km).. cost me $25 to get new brushes in a brush holder. From local auto elec. The brushes are made to wear against the slip rings. You might need to just use ligth sandpaper on the slip rings.. But this worked a treat. P.S Bearings were fine..

I'm just worried if as you start tightening down, either the metal fractures or the clamps slip off. That would be trouble. People have lost there face with these sorts of things I believe.. Thanks GRK. I know the different types but was wondering if anyone could point me towards ones that were cheap and good? IF they are reliable and not dangerous. Thanks

Just changing my front shocks - dropped down the new and old to be swapped at the local mechanic. I.e I took the shock dpring assemblies out of car so car sitting here shockless.. I've been waiting for a day or 2 now and was wondering whether I should invest in a spring compressor?? Always been scared of horror stories with these. Are there any that are around $50 that are safe?

On a normal dyno I would say about 140rwkw max. As you add mods you may not increase this as the ECU senses too much airflow and runs richer and more retarded. A tuned (PFC) 170-180rwkw will feel a heap better. I got this with 10psi, R34 cooler and full 3" exhaust. All depends on the dyno though. Mine may have read 190 on others...

Whats Your Pfc Water Temp Correction?
benl1981 replied to Cubes's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My car was idling really rough for the first 2-3 mins on cold start after th tune. It was because he leaned it out so much I now have played around and put 1.28 in the +30 deg low load one and 1.25 in the 50 deg low load cell. I'll try and knock a bit out and check to see it doesn't interfer with cold idling -
1995 Silver R33 Skyline Gts-t S1.5

Is it running higher than stock boost? Nice looking car. 160 seems very high!! Considering they are 185kw stock - take 45 away - ie.e about 140kw stock at the wheels. 107k isn't much!! -

Hey R33TOM - you couldn't hear the turbo spooling- very quiet. It was picking up pretty quick but lacked a bit of feeling I think. Didn't get to put it throught the paces too much though. It seemed pretty competent. Much beter torque than the Subaru. You'd have to really think about which one you'd take. Subaru is more proven with AWD etc but was dead down low. I'm comparing it to the R33 because I am sort of thinking of upgrading but can't justify price of new car and R33 does pretty much all I want. It's a 4 door so practical for peoplee to get in and out of etc..boot is pretty small though. -

Its got 18s to start with. I havent hand any cop attention in my skyline- 4 doors, looks all stock except for big xhaust. How much you take it off my hands for? 55k after 2 years...heheeh -
I know if I had a faulty speedo I would probably be very cautious and be doing closer to 80. You are either going hard or just not very aware. Good luck with it, but just try and be more aware next time or go for a defensive driving course to bring up your skills/awareness.

Just drove one yesterday. It was very punchy low in the rev range. I was talking to sales rep that came with me and he was saying he was sure all the power outputs mazda quoted were at the wheels rather than at engine. I'm sure he is wrong..That means the Mazda MPS with 190kw would have about 250kw at the flywheel..didn't feel like that much. I reckon my R33 has much better power from 5000rpm on (Im running 175rwkw) but if you missed the jump you'd have to watch out as it gets going quick. Compared to the liberty GT the low end power is much much better. Lot of money though 58k when my less than 15k car is probably quicker. Adv over R33: leather, everything is tigher (i.e no rattles), engine a bit more tractable at low revs, good grip Disadv: Not as good top end, no tail slides, costs a lot. Silly to compare old to new but thought I'd add it in for shits and giggles..

Thanks Ben - Might order them and wack them in I find if the surface is a bit uneven etc and you put the boot in the rears spin pretty easy - sort of bounce a bit then get traction. I don't think bilsteins in the rear would help that would they? Much better than the old shocks though. So you just have standard KYB gas shocks al round Ben?
-
Or get a turbo that bolts up to a standard Dump. Either a GCG high flow or HKS 2530 or 2535 Probably less hassle and look more stock
-
I have an R33 gtst with about 175rwkw. Currently have: Stock springs all round Rear shocks: New KYB gas - no adjustment Front shocks: originals, can hear them clanking round a bit, got told when I put new boots on them that they were very worn Tyres - Michelin Premacy 16" 205/55 on stock rims Considering getting either Bilstein or KYB fronts. KYB - $244 for 2 Bilstein - about $495 Just wondering if the Bilsteins will make much of a diff if only on the front...just wondering about people opinions who have replaced their tired suspension with KYB close to stockers and others that have done the same with bilsteins . Do good standard shocks handle 230rwkw if in case I upgrade turbo in the future? Car grips well in straight line but put the boot in at about 3000rpm round a corner in 2nd and it spins up pretty easy - but I guess it will always do that.. Car will only see track day once ot twice a year and definately don't want a firmer ride than I've got.. Cheers

Are you sure the VG30 is steel wheeled? I think they are quite a bit laggier than the RB25 turbo right?
