  1. Anyone one else found boost cut below 10psi??
  2. Do you really think it is cutting at 9-9.5psi? Does feel a bit like what you are describing..
  3. Yes I'll have to do that but its hard trying to organise with my friend and then I have to take off his pipes etc.
  4. I've only got 3" exhaust and R34 intercooler... If I turn it down to .5bar (7psi) it is ok. But at 9 or 9.5psi it is cutting..
  5. Thanks Paul! It is like you say an invisible wall but didn't appear to pop and fart. I guess at 9.5psi I'm not far away from 11psi so maybe in fact mine is the overboost or over airflow cut. So the AFM has to register near 5.1v to boost cut?? At the higher boost it tends to feel like it is missing sligtly as you rev it to redline (only sometimes though). Only just lately is started cutting. Running stock boost now and it is fine..although some people have had coil probs that only show up when boost increases...
  6. Please help - I know heaps of you must have hit the overboost protection,...
  7. well pod and bov wouldn't have helped - but if you got a tune then maybe something was done there. luke105 - What you should do is service everything you can yourself. I.e change spark plugs, check hoses etc. Check air filter, replace fuel filter, engine oil, oil filter. If your timing is out it may be the base timing but there is a chance somebody who did the timing belt has put it on one tooth out. This is more of a job to check. You have to take the top timing belt cover off..rotate engine to TDC. THe mark on the crank for 0 deg should lineup with mark on lower timing belt cover and the punch marks on the cam pulley should line up with other marks..
  8. Just want to get some feedback on the stock ECU. I am boost cutting at under 10psi....I think (not sure if boost cut or other..i.e coils) The coils have burn marks down the side but I can see no arcing at idle or when reving the motor (I have taken the cover off the top) Thinking now it must be boost cut. 1. What boost level do you cut out at? My car has R34 intercooler and 3" exhaust..that's it. Tried a few different boost control methods. Both cause an engine cut. Warm or cold. and 2. The AFM gives out a reading from 0-5 volts I believe. What voltage does the ECU determine that airflow is to high? I guess it may depend on inlet temp etc aswell? I was boost cutting or equivalent at 3000rpm in 4th gear so it wasn't as if the inlet temp was high. Just put the foot down up a hill.. after going easy at 80km/h
  9. Still no spark. Is it possible that I am hitting the boost cut at around 9.5-10psi?? I have an R34 intercooler so I guess that may mean I'm getting a little more airflow for the given pressure. Also have 3" exhaust but that's it. I thought guys with front mounts were running up to 12psi on standard ecu without boost cut (from excessive airflow)
  10. I have the cover off and I can't see any sparks at idle or when I rev it. Does this mean the coils are fine? Under boost there is a lot more pressure on them. Shuld I not give the coils the all clear yet??? As they may be leaking under boost and high load?? Maybe I should warm up the car more... Thanks
  11. Oh I see! On the series one there is no where really to bolt it down to as it is usually on the cover. I might see if I can utilise two of the bolt holes for the cover to secure the ignitor module to atleast temporarily
  12. Hey Siks. When you run the without that top cover over the coils did you find it necessary to use spacers/nuts to space out the ignitior module (located towards back off engine. Or does it not matter that the bolts will go in another 10-15mm further due to lack of the raised section on the plastic piece. Thanks
  13. Thanks again. I'm just worried that some won't be acring at idle yet at 9psi they may start to. Or do you think you would see a small amount of arcing at idle to show if one is had it or not...
  14. Yes I found 4th to be the main problem. I'll check it out tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the advice. So you only replaced the ones that you could see arcing the other burn mark ones you left in? PS. Can you get to all the coil packs without taking the plumbing off if you leave that cover off. I.e. does the plumbing stop you getting to No.4 or 5 coil pack.
  15. Hey thanks siks!! So you can see the small sparks at idle once warm? I'll have to run it without the centre cover I guess. I might leave that off anyway to stop the coils getting so hot. Feels like a fuel cut but hopefully is as you say as about 5 of my coils had those burn marks.
  16. Most cars are pretty tough, test it out thoroughly. All these cars have been in Japland for years, through compliancing etc, to the track i.e probably at some stage flogged quite hard..I dont think 30kms of hard driving will kill it. Be skeptical of it i.e. get someone who knows to check it out for you. You can tell if a clutch and gearbox are good. You can get a compression check..
  17. Thanks fellas. Mine really feels like a boost cut though..feels almost like a rev limit. Really just kills all the power. Is that what you guys are calling a misfire? I think I just back off straight away aswell as it doesn't feel good. So Panking - do you think mine are cracked on the side rather than the front where most people find cracks?
  18. Hey Gamatron. I've got a similar problem it feels almost like a rev limit, very harsh stop in the power. I'm thinking coil packs but others say it may be boost cut. Did yours feel like a boost cut? This is only at 9.5psi.
  19. So you think at 10psi I shouldn't be getting a cut due to the ECU???
  20. THe popping is just extra fuel right?
  21. Seems almost perfect on 7psi, some slight hesitation yet turn it up a little and things turn nasty...
  22. Hey Zigen. I'm having some problems to. Though now it's happening at stock boost levels sometimes aswell. Fitted new plugs 0.8mm gap. I think my coil packs are stuffed, they have burn marks on the side where the spark may have been escaping. Uping the boost puts more demand on the coil packs. There are post here about aralditing up the coil packs. This may not be your problem but it seems a lot of people have had coil pack related problems. I'll let you know how I go with mine.
  23. Really! Most of the 6 have the burn marks on the side. I don't know if you can see but it also looks like there is glue in little patches on them. Is this something inside that has leaked? So that is where the spark is escaping you think. Sometimes when you rev it out you can feel the power fluctuating, almost missing. Just lately got that what felt like a boost cut..
