  1. Cheers Predator - you've been a lot of help. I would like to hear from R32 owners like you say...however, the price you have got your things for sounds decent. Was $300 for a headlight the new price from Nissan? I wonder how expensive the doors would be for a 4 door skyline due to their limited no. ..hopefully won't need too many parts if I get lucky and drive sensibly (and other drivers dont hit me). thnks again
  2. Thanks predator - fair call. Are the importers usually pretty fair? Like how much would a door normally go for or a rear light. Do they milk you if they have to order it in? I would have thought the parts availability would be about the same as the soarer? ANy thoughts. I do rather the skyline for my needs at the moment. So you don't think you should worry about it too much. 4 door would be ok you think? I just don't want to regret my decision if I do decide to get one. I wouldn't care if it took time to get the parts, just don't want them to be too expensive .. Also - do Nissan stock any parts for the Skylines?? If so are they reasonably priced?
  3. Hey guys - I'm looking at buying one of these at the moment. The interior room seems to be adequate and the power is good. Just wondering if the 4 door is a lot harder to get parts for. I realise the 4 door is the same basic shape as the 2 door. If some vandal smashes a side window am I going to be up the creek or are parts plentiful enough. A mechanic I was talking to ( a good one) reckons they're good cars just the parts thing is a worry (moreso than say a early to mid 90s soarer..toyota). Lights and body panels are they really expensive? ANy experiences and costs of parts that you've had to buy would be great to get an indication. THis will be my first real car (A mazda 929 before and a corollla currently), I realise this will cost more for parts, insurance, fuel etc, but don't want it to drain all my funds and be a burden. Thanks
  4. Thanks Predator. Should be enough leg room right? I know wouldn't be heaps - but would it be like the silvias where you have to spread your legs if your over about 5ft 8. You could go to the snow or something with it but have breaks every couple of hours? I'm getting prety keen now! THanks
  5. Thanks guys. Essential - not really a 'sublimianl' but I realised afterwards it did sound a little suss :0 I rather the R33 but being a tight arse I think I'm going for a R32 Sort of wanted the car to be pretty versatile, anybody been in the back of an R32 (sitting upright!) and felt comfortable engough - and if so how tall are you? Oh and it's good to know this: "theres enough cusion for the pushing" You would have to invest in some seat covers for the back then to be safe
  6. Hi guys - just wondering how much room there is in the back of a skyline R32. I'm considering buying a 4 door . What is the leg room like and also the headroom? Could you go on a holiday with a couple of the people in the back that aren't that short? I had a look at a silvia last night and the back seat is hardly useable. So have to look for something bigger. Is the skyline reasonable in the back? Has the 4 door got more room though it looks like the only thing different is the doors Thanks a lot
  7. Please telll me guys. Does the 4 door have more headroom or leg room in the back. Could you go on a holiday with a couple of 6ft people in the back without them complaining too much thanks
  8. Also - what is the back seat leg room and head room like in a) the sedan B) the coupe. (Is it as good or better than say a corolla?) Thanks PS Test drove a silvia and there was no room in the back.
  9. Just wondering what an 89 or 90 model is worth these days, in reasonable nick and stock. Is it close to 10k? Or a little more.. Is the sedan worth slightly less than the coupe? Prices seem highly variable. Just looking into getting one at the moment. Thanks
  10. Nice. So if you putter around you can still get pretty good figures. CHris you are making some good no.s lookingat your sig. How bad is that traffic that you are getting 11L/100k?
  11. Cool..thanks for the reply M - Sounds like about 12litres per 100. Do you drive in much traffic. I wouldusually use about $30-35 in the rolla doing 400ks. So about 50% more in fuel Gotta buy a decent car sometime though..
  12. is cereal close to the mark? Do you drive in a fair bit of traffic cereal?
  13. That's not real good. Thought it would be a fair bit better than a commodore, I suppose commohores are about 13-14. It's bad getting used to corolla economy - you become a tightarse
  14. I was wondering what kind of fuel economy I can expect in not too heavy city driving - with the occassional gas. A friend with a soarer 2.5 t/turbo gets about 11-12 L/100kms so I was thinking maybe a litttle better that that? 2 litre turbo, should be ok on fuel? As long a s you don't gas it heaps? My Corolla currently gets about 8L/100km..what do you think 30% more for petrol with the skyline?
  15. Wow..that's pretty impressive guys!! You have sold me. Are the head gaskets pretty robust? If it has had crappy rusted water in for awhile and I flush out and give good coolant should it last a while (on stock boost)? I had heard they're pretty tough cars Any of you 3rd party property them? Is a decent alarm a necessity - or can youi get away with various kill switches steering locks etc etc? "Budget for a timing belt, and all fluids and brake pads to be changed I would say if you import a 89 mode" Yes I will Chris - thanks. Are they an interference motor - as in if the timing belt breaks do you bend valves? I would do this anyway. I have the tools, does it take long to do on these motots, timing belt that is. gtst89 - you've had a good run with yours - hope I can be so lucky (damn - that's a kylie minogue song , oh well she's pretty hot)
  16. Thanks mate - that sounds pretty damn good. I posted this in skyline section also. SOunds like another guy had not as good experience with his? I guess it's all luck and how well it's been looked after..
  17. hmm. That doesn't sound real promising. I'm looking at a bog stock one. WHy do you think it would be non stock? They came out in 89 right? Most of those repairs are fairly normalish, but I guess it's pretty unlucky to have them all go on you within a year. I suppose I'll have to be careful
  18. Sorry mate. I should get my terminology right! (edited above) Yes interested in the turbo not the N/A, if not, then I probably wouldn't bother updating
  19. guys, I'm just looking into buying one of these at the moment (importing), was just wondering how reliable or unreliable they can be. I'm used to a toyota which causes hardly any problems at all (a 1986 corolla 4age), was wondering if I can expect similar reliability out of a 1989 GTS. I realise they are a turbo car so there is an extra something to go wrong etc. How tough are the the RB20 - if it's been running stock boost and serviced they should last a while right? I realise they are getting old now so a few repairs are inevitable - but I just don't want to be paying heaps for parts and getting things fixed...if possible. I don't think I will be able to get a compression check done prior to purchase, but I see engines are relatively cheap from importers (although could also be close to shagged). How about theft, as I will probably be just doing 3rd party property cover. Plenty of kill switches I guess Any weaknesses of this model? Electrics? Engine? G/bx? diff? etc... Many thanks! PS I also posted same question in maintanence, wasn't sure where to put this
